The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu, however, thought this might be true. Whether or not her feeling was correct, it was still a clue, right?

It was better than searching aimlessly.

”Have you talked to Lu Wu about this?”

Qiao Rou shook her head, ”No.”

”Hmm? Why didn’t you tell him?” Lu Wu was also from the black market and was Qiao Rou’s husband. She received the letter yesterday, so there should have been many opportunities.

However, Qiao Rou’s mind was quite complicated, ”My husband is now an inspector working under Lord Tang. I don’t know how much Lord Tang knows about the black market. I know this matter is rather secretive, perhaps even very few soldiers in the capital are aware. If my husband tells Lord Tang, what if the news spreads? What if Lord Tang doesn’t believe something without evidence? But if I don’t tell Lord Tang, and he finds out later, he might think my husband was overstepping boundaries, ambitious, and not loyal enough to him. So I’m hesitant, and this hesitation lasted until now.”

In fact, if Shu Yu hadn’t come, Qiao Rou would still hesitate for a day or two before eventually telling Lu Wu.

This way of thinking isn’t wrong, as Qiao Rou wasn’t familiar with Tang Wenqian, nor did she understand the intricacies of officialdom. Having spent such a long time in the black market and encountering a variety of people, she found it hard to trust others and naturally became more cautious.

”I just heard on the street that the county magistrate has arrived. I thought, since the county magistrate knows everything about the black market from start to finish and we were all rescued by the county magistrate and Young Master Meng, the county magistrate has connections. I’m not under Lord Tang, so talking to the county magistrate myself might be the best.”

Shu Yu nodded, ”Just in time, I’m going to the capital. Your news is very timely. Do you have the letter with you? Can I take a look?”

”Yes, I brought it.”

Qiao Rou quickly took out the letter and handed it over.

There was nothing indecent in the letter. It started with casual chatter about recent events and the customs of the southwest. Near the end, it mentioned a few suspicious people encountered at the black market.

The content was not extensive, and it was merely a speculation.

After reading, Shu Yu put the letter away, ”Can I take this letter with me?”

Qiao Rou immediately nodded, ”Of course.”

”Thank you for telling me this. If the situation is true, you’ll be credited for it.”

Qiao Rou breathed a sigh of relief and then smiled, ”I’m quite fine now. For me, the content of this letter was uncertain, and giving it to the county magistrate relieved me.

Otherwise, keeping it inside was awkward, whether I spoke up or not, it was suffocating.

Shu Yu didn’t say much else. After chatting a few more words with Qiao Rou and seeing that she seemed a bit tired, she asked Ying Xi to escort her home.

After all, with a big belly, Shu Yu was also concerned.

She kept the letter safe and after finishing matters with Uncle Meng and others, rushed back to the prefecture, trying to enter the city before the gates closed.

With the letter in hand, Shu Yu looked somewhat preoccupied. After returning, Shuyou even thought she wasn’t feeling well and asked Zhao Xi to check on her.

After Shuyou left, Zhao Xi said in a low voice, ”You’re perfectly healthy. Has the engagement changed after returning to the Meng family?”

”No, it’s about the black market.” Shu Yu didn’t hide this from Zhao Xi, who was also aware of the black market matters.
