Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 549: Chapter 335: Husband’s Family

Seeing her daughter, Yang Zhang suddenly felt at ease, all her previous unease disappeared.

”Da Ni, come here.” Yang Zhang took a few steps to the side: ”Are you hungry? Did you have dinner?”

Da Ni jogged over, shaking her head: ”No, Grandma said that eating a little at noon is enough, since I’m not working at night, I don’t need dinner.”

She didn’t say whether she was hungry or not, but how could she not be? She only ate a little at noon and couldn’t sleep because of hunger, so she got up as soon as she heard the noise.

But Da Ni didn’t want her mother to worry, so she didn’t say anything.

Yang Zhang felt both sad and heartbroken. Her sister-in-law’s two daughters, although not fair and tender, obviously had never gone hungry, looking very healthy.

Looking at her own kids, her two sons didn’t look as good as the daughters of others. It clearly showed how biased the in-laws were.

But Yang Zhang understood more clearly that her sister-in-law was lucky, her husband was capable, while her own husband only cared for himself and didn’t care about the children at all.

The in-laws scrimped on her and the three children, but wouldn’t let their son go hungry. In a family of five, only her husband was well-fed and looked good, while the other three were skinny and dark, as if they’d starve to death at any moment.

Yang Zhang hugged her daughter, took her into her room, and took a bun from a handkerchief to give her.

”Shh, keep it down, don’t let anyone hear, eat slowly, it’s a bit cold, warm it in your mouth so your stomach won’t hurt.”

Smelling the aroma of the bun for the first time, Da Ni almost exclaimed, but Yang Zhang quickly covered her mouth.

Nodding repeatedly, Da Ni indicated she definitely wouldn’t make a sound, so Yang Zhang pulled her hand away, wrapped the remaining two buns, and hid them in a pile of clothes.

”Stay here, don’t go anywhere, I’ll go see your grandma and be back soon. Don’t let anyone find out you’re eating, okay?”

With her mouth full of bun, Da Ni nodded repeatedly.

Yang Zhang carefully closed the door, then pretended she had just returned, and directly knocked on the in-laws’ room door.

”Who is it, in the middle of the night, won’t let people sleep?”

”Mom, it’s me, I’m back with the money.”

The originally angry tone instantly softened: ”Eldest daughter-in-law? You’re back? Didn’t you say you’d be working for a long time?”

Soon, the room door creaked open.

”Mom, I asked the employer for today’s wages, look, twenty copper coins, count them.”

Yang Zhang directly shoved the pre-counted copper coins all at once into her mother-in-law’s hand.

Yang Zhang’s voice was loud, almost waking everyone up.

”Sister-in-law, what are you doing, running back in the middle of the night, did they kick you out, don’t want you to work anymore?”

The third sister-in-law came out from the next room, making snide comments, instantly wiping the smiles off the in-laws’ faces, turning to glare at Yang Zhang.

Yang Zhang was furious inside, this third sister-in-law always did this. Obviously before she married in, the in-laws, though displeased about having a granddaughter, wouldn’t ignore them.

It was this third sister-in-law who, after marrying in with sweet words and tricks, made the in-laws particularly displeased with their family, even after giving birth to two sons it didn’t change the situation, it only became worse.

Fortunately, Master Liu was sharp. After inquiring about her family situation and everyone’s personality in advance, he anticipated this issue, and without waiting for her mother-in-law to scold, he immediately explained.

”What are you saying, third sister-in-law? If I were kicked out, how could I come back so late, I only came back after finishing today’s work, and have to hurry back early tomorrow.”

The mother-in-law nodded, accepting this explanation, but while looking at the copper coins in her hand, her brows furrowed again.

”Why only twenty copper coins, what about the eldest son’s money? Doesn’t he have another twenty-five?”

Short-term work generally pays better because no one knows if there will be work tomorrow after finishing today.

But long-term work is different. Although the daily pay is less, there is money every day, which adds up to quite a bit over a month.

When Zhang Yuan came to them before, he also mentioned the wages, so Yang Cheng’s mother didn’t say much about the wages, just upset not seeing her son.

The third sister-in-law next to her wanted to speak again, but this time Yang Zhang directly cut her off: ”Mom, Yang Cheng’s wages will be paid after the work is done. I asked the employer for an advance so I could give it to you first.”

She said this and didn’t give anyone else a chance to speak, continuing with an excited and happy demeanor.

”By the way, mother-in-law, the employer is still looking for workers. I specifically asked for them today, hoping Shi Tou Lei Zi could go to work. They have over a hundred pigs to take care of, needing many people for pig hunting, and right, Da Ni, I hope Da Ni can also go and work for a few days.”
