Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 519: Chapter 320: Lunar New Year

On the twenty-ninth day of the twelfth lunar month, the hired hands prepared wild grass to feed the chickens and ducks for the next few days. In the afternoon, Jiang Hu paid all the workers their wages and set the date for work to resume.

The second wife gave each of them a strip of cured meat, not much, just about a pound, but it was enough to make them very grateful, promising to return early after the new year, and then hurriedly headed home.

On New Year’s Eve morning, several children happily followed Jiang Hu, pasting couplets and window flowers, while Xiaoxue and the second wife were busy in the kitchen.

This morning they ate dumplings, planning to just have a simple lunch, leaving the New Year’s Eve dinner for the evening, which would be a big feast meant to last until tomorrow.

Although it was their first New Year in Xiangmu Village, everyone felt comfortable, just like in the previous years at Fu’an Village.

After the curtains were put up, Jiang Hu went to kill chickens and rabbits, while others went to feed the chickens and pigs. There’s no choice; even during the new year, the livestock at home still need to be fed.

Xiaomi led the cattle and sheep to the waste land, finding a place with thorny wild grass.

The three wild mountain goats had now grown very well, both legs healed and able to stand, seemingly accepting their place at Jiang’s home.

Now as long as the ewes are tethered, the rams and lambs won’t leave, and even better, the ewe was pregnant again recently!

Unfortunately, after Xiaomi practiced her speed training for a whole winter, she hasn’t encountered any more mountain goats since.

However, the bees in the space thrived exceptionally well. Ling’er helped her harvest a jar of honey, then made a few beehives with bamboo, and now there are already bees in two hives.

”Looks like I’ll have to venture into the mountains again, otherwise it would be a shame to leave such good honey in the space.”

Xiaomi pondered, stroking her chin. She almost forgot, honey is good stuff, especially pure, natural wild honey, and this was wild honey produced in the space!

She hasn’t tasted it yet, but she can already imagine how delicious this nectar from the space must be!

Xiaomi tied the cattle and sheep to a tree, then went down the mountain to help collect eggs. Everyone was on holiday these days, so Liu’s steward went home to be with his wife and children, not returning until the third day.

Fortunately, with prior experience, Jiang Hu prepared many bamboo baskets in advance, making the elderly basket weavers in the village extremely happy.

Chicken eggs, duck eggs, goose eggs, all stored separately, with goose eggs being the least and chicken eggs the most, almost a hundred chicken eggs were gathered every day, and dozens of wild chicken eggs too.

Domestic chickens and wild chickens were not mixed; although the wild chickens’ wings were clipped and they were raised plump and healthy at Jiang’s home, they were still kept separate.

However, wild chickens were not as diligent in laying eggs or as serious about incubating as domestic chickens, so generally, domestic chickens would incubate the eggs, and once they hatched and grew a bit, they would be moved to where the wild chickens were.

Wei Ziang, while Xiaomi was herding cattle, had already fed the chickens, and drove the ducks and geese to the pond.

A rain from a few days ago raised the water level of the pond we dug previously, submerging the first tier of steps, so now it’s no longer necessary to drive the ducks outside. They can stay here, which is much more convenient.

Xiaomi collected eggs alongside others, and later they would feed the rabbits and gather the sawed bamboo joints for the Malagasy bamboo rats.

Jiang Yu and Jiang Wei were feeding the pigs, with already over forty pigs in the pen. Just boiling and feeding the pigs took quite a while, requiring three large pots.

Normally, the pig food would be cooked the evening before and fed throughout the next day, but since afternoons are likely busier, they scooped today’s feed and pre-cooked tomorrow’s.

Jiang Wei tended the fire, keeping three large pots busy, while Jiang Yu went to feed the pigs.

The almost thirteen-year-old young man, having been running for half a year, had grown taller and stronger, already becoming significantly helpful with the labor.

Even though he studied diligently every day, he never forgot his farm work roots, helping with household chores whenever he had time after returning home.

Now Jiang Yu, looking tall and lean, had considerable strength, not skimping on farm work, with solid muscles underneath his refined scholar’s robe.

Once the siblings finished their chores, Xiaoxue came to call them home for lunch.

Lunch was simple; the chickens, ducks, and rabbits Jiang Hu had slaughtered in the morning were already cleaned, ready to be cooked as stew or braised dishes after the meal. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂

Just before dark, they caught a big grass carp, as no New Year celebration should be without fish, symbolizing abundance year after year.

When night fell, the whole family sat around the table neatly, and the second wife even brought out rice wine specially.
