Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 539: Chapter 330: Not That Simple

Jiang Hu didn’t return until it was almost dark. Today, Zhang Yuan took him along, not only to find a few more people to work, but they also took a detour to familiarize themselves with the roads in the nearby villages.

Some of them had worked for the Jiang family during the busy farming season and had heard of Jiang Hu or the Jiang family.

As for Zhang Yuan’s eldest brother-in-law, it’s a bit far, so he still needs to make a trip by horse-drawn carriage tomorrow to bring over the elder brother-in-law and sister-in-law of Xiaocao.

During dinner, Jiang Hu briefly talked about the situation at Zhang Yuan’s eldest brother-in-law’s home. On the way to find people, Zhang Yuan also repeated the details several times, so Jiang Hu had a pretty clear understanding.

He also mentioned it to Uncle Liu to see if there’s any way to reasonably separate from the family.

”Division of property, huh,” Uncle Liu stroked his beard, ”With both parents still alive, wanting to divide the family might lead to people talking behind your back.”

This is not an easy matter, whether it’s the parents wanting to separate the children or the children demanding division, it’s always the children who get criticized.

If the parents decide, it’s because the children are unfilial, hurting the parents’ hearts, that’s why it happens; otherwise, it’s even more unacceptable.

However, Uncle Liu, being quite experienced, naturally knows that not all families are harmonious.

There are unfilial children, and unkind parents too.

From what Jiang Hu said, this family is the latter, with parents favoring the youngest, which seems common in rural households.

The saying, ”The emperor loves the eldest son, but commoners love the youngest,” isn’t without reason.

Jiang Hu nodded: ”It’s indeed a tough situation, so I suggested they come and work at my place first, to better understand the situation. If we can help a bit, we will, but if not, we can’t really meddle in other people’s family affairs.”

Even for Zhang Yuan’s sake, we can’t just stand by and do nothing.

Of course, we can’t intervene too much, at most just offer some advice based on the situation and let them decide for themselves.

Uncle Liu shared a similar view, even honest officials find handling family affairs challenging, let alone neighbors so far removed.

”However, from what you said, Zhang Yuan’s eldest brother-in-law seems to be overly honest, seeing the problem but not daring to oppose it. If he had even a little determination at home, his wife and children wouldn’t be bullied like that.”

Uncle Liu shook his head as he spoke, looking as if he was lamenting wasted potential.

According to Jiang Hu, the daughter is only twelve, and the grandparents are already preparing to marry her off to an elderly widower in his thirties to exchange silver for their youngest son’s education.

And Zhang Yuan’s eldest brother-in-law is just anxiously worried, not having the courage to firmly stop it.

If it were a slightly more spirited father, he might not fight his parents but would definitely cause a ruckus.

Jiang Yu quickly nodded from the side, even before Jiang Hu could say anything.

”Exactly, having a father like that, the children are really pitiful.”

Just as he finished speaking, he got tapped on the head: ”What nonsense are you talking about.”

It was Jiang Hu.

Jiang Yu snorted: ”If I were him, I’d take a cleaver and go to the elders’ rooms every day, or even to the bedside of that nephew supposedly going to school, and brandish the cleaver to see who dares to sell my daughter!”

Liu Ze also nodded in agreement: ”Those who are pitiable must have something about them that’s contemptible. The man is indeed a bit too weak, which is why he gets bullied repeatedly.”

Saying he’s honest is just putting it nicely; in blunt terms, he’s cowardly and lacks courage.

Something he didn’t say was that the parents also bully the weak while fearing the strong, especially those parents who treat their children poorly and lack reason.

Uncle Zhang Yuan’s father- and mother-in-law are obviously this type.

In their prime, they might be quite imposing, being the absolute authority in front of their children; but in their later years, they might speak softly to their children, because their inherent nature is to respect strength.

As for the bonds of father and child, they seemingly don’t exist.

They aren’t truly parents who are kind and children who are filial; they maintain relationships with authority, rather than true harmonious familial affection.

And such families are more prevalent among the uneducated.

In their later years, more so-called unfilial children will arise and so on.

In contrast, families like Uncle Jiang’s, where parents are genuinely loving and children genuinely filial, filled with true emotions, even as Uncle Jiang and his family grow old, this respect and love won’t change.

However, such thoughts are best kept in the heart, not spoken out loud.

Jiang Yu and Liu Ze exchanged remarks, leaving Uncle Liu and Jiang Hu unsure of what more to say.
