Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 509: Chapter 315: Rescue

Perhaps because they were excited about raising fish and earning money themselves next year, several women called their children over to catch fish in the fields. After all, it’s about gaining experience since their own family will be raising fish next year too.

These past two days, almost everyone has been draining water from the fields. Many fields around have people busy working, although most of them are men.

The women all ran over to watch Erniang and her group harvest fish, leaving only Yang Shulin and Qixi, the two men.

Because there were so many women here, those men felt awkward coming over. Qixi was from the Jiang family, and Yang Shulin’s pregnant wife was also here. Besides, when Jiang Hu left earlier, he asked for his help.

Not only did they earn a lot of fish yesterday, but they also made quite a bit in wages. So, coming to lend a hand today, Yang Shulin naturally didn’t refuse.

When all the fish were collected, it was already late, so Erniang let each of the aunts who helped today pick a fish to take home.

After everyone cheerfully left with their fish, Yang Shulin hurried his family’s water buffalo to help them pull the ox cart to the Jiang family’s door.

Just as they got home, Jiang Hu returned. Upon asking, they found out that a lot of today’s fish were sold right at the city gate, and at the East Market, they were all sold out in less than half an hour.

As expected, like they had guessed before, the fish today had no trouble being sold. Those who ate yesterday wanted more today, and those who didn’t get to try yesterday wanted to buy some today.

Unfortunately, the number of paddy fish at Jiang’s was limited; once this batch is gone, they’ll have to wait until next year.

”Brother Yang, wait a moment. I’ll scoop some fish out first, and I need you to kindly take me around the village.”

He also untied the rope from his water buffalo and let Erniang take it to rest and eat some fodder.

”No problem, but Brother Jiang, your sister-in-law already let those who helped in the field take fish home. My family also took one, so there’s no need to send any more, right?”

Although he really liked the paddy fish, he didn’t want to take undue advantage. ℯℯ𝘭.

Jiang Hu didn’t mind: ”It’s okay. Those were for the helpers; these are for the village, to thank them for helping us catch fish back then.”

Yang Shulin gave a thumbs up: ”Brother Jiang, this is great!”

This fish wasn’t worth much, but they were not small; each fish weighed at least two to three pounds. If they gave one fish to each household, it would be several tens to a hundred pounds!

Most people would be reluctant to do that!

Jiang Hu just smiled; now their family was well-rooted in Xiangmu Village. Today, this fish was like a belated welcoming gift.

Although they didn’t know every person in the village, they were familiar with many households.

With Yang Shulin reminding him, they quickly scooped out several buckets of fish of about the same size and took a bundle of straw, placing the buckets on the ox cart, letting Yang Shulin’s ox pull them to the village.

By the time he came back from making a round in the village, Erniang had already prepared lunch and called Xie Fuya over.

Earlier, Xie Fuya had gone to the fields to watch everyone catch paddy fish. She watched for quite a while and, feeling tired, went back to rest at her place afterward.

During lunchtime, when Xie Fuya was home alone, Erniang always called her over to eat together. As for dinner, it depended on the young couple’s preference.

It’s lively to eat together, or if they prefer having dinner at home to strengthen their relationship, that’s also nice.

Over the meal, Jiang Hu talked about buying two more oxen and wanting to dig a fish pond.

Knowing Jiang Hu planned to raise fish himself, besides Xie Fuya, no one else was surprised. After all, back in Fu’an Village, they already had their fish pond.

Indeed, having a fish pond makes many things particularly convenient.

”Oh, by the way, in one or two months, it will be time to harvest lotus roots from the old place, along with lotus seeds. When winter comes, during leisure time, we’ll dig up another two acres of paddy fields to plant lotus roots.”

Unexpectedly, it was Uncle Liu who nodded first: ”That’s good. Homegrown lotus roots taste the best; those bought outside just aren’t the same.”

”Indeed, and lotus flowers are nice to look at too. Speaking of which, the lotus flowers at home are almost withered; in a few days, let’s use the seeds to make some soup.”

They started chatting idly.

The lotus flowers in the courtyard bloomed beautifully this year, but there were few of them, just for garden scenery. If this were a wealthy family, they probably wouldn’t dig up the lotus in their pond to eat.

But for the Jiang family, this seemed like no big deal.
