Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 514: Chapter 317: Eight Years Old (Part 2)

A response soon came from the mountain, and Xiaomi left it alone, instead taking out a handful of lotus seeds she prepared last night and scattering them into the fish pond.

The fish pond was huge, but the flow of water drawn from the spring was small, so even after eight or nine days, the water level was not even a finger deep.

This year, the Start of Spring came early, on the second day of the lunar New Year, and the weather wasn’t particularly cold these days.

She had smoothed both ends of the lotus seeds and soaked them in the Spiritual Spring water for two days, ensuring a high germination rate.

Although her parents said there was no need to plant lotus roots in the fish pond, since the water level was quite deep—previously dug out to two meters and tamped down—it was now nearly two and a half meters deep.

It was perfect for raising fish, but using it to plant lotus roots seemed a bit too deep.

However, Xiaomi thought it was fine. Although she couldn’t plant lotus rhizomes directly, using lotus seeds was not bad either. Over time, the fish pond would accumulate silt, and the lotus roots could grow directly in the silt without extending downward.

Moreover, with such a large pond, if lotus seeds were scattered around the edges, by summer they could experience boating and admire the lotus flowers.

Furthermore, growing lotus flowers didn’t interfere with raising water hyacinths, which aggressively occupied water areas. If they grew too much, they could take over the living space for underwater creatures.

The water hyacinth needed to be scooped diligently; whenever it seemed slightly overgrown, you had to scoop it out, whether to feed pigs or chickens.

Walking halfway around the fish pond, two adults and a little one ran down from the mountain, with the tallest among them, naturally, being Xiao Hei, a dog leading the charge furiously.

Following closely was the snow-white fox. Xiao Bai, who had been with the Jiang family for over three months, was growing well-fed with nightly access to spend a few hours in the magical space, now almost half a meter long.

The smallest, Xiao Mi, came last, but it was evident that the two ahead weren’t running at full speed and seemed to be waiting for Xiao Mi.

The most exasperating for Xiaomi was that the ’cat and dog best friends’ she had known for years split up completely since Xiao Bai appeared.

Previously, Xiao Mi and Xiao Hei were inseparable; now, Xiao Mi and Xiao Bai were glued to each other!

It was fortunate that Xiao Hei didn’t mind; he remained carefree every day, either following Xiaomi up the mountain or taking a pup hunting on his own.

On the other hand, Xiao Mi now enjoyed hanging around Xiao Bai; if not for their different species, she would have suspected something was going on between the two.

But the truth proved that Xiao Mi might have just had enough of the black and found the sudden addition of a white one at home curious.

”Woof woof!” Xiao Hei pounced directly in front of Xiaomi, wagging his tail excitedly.

Xiao Bai and Xiao Mi followed closely, with Xiao Bai letting out a low growl, while Xiao Mi slowed down as she approached, stopping half a meter away from Xiaomi.

Well, kittens tend to be more aloof and proud, even if they like you, they won’t cling too much, right?

Xiaomi casually rubbed Xiao Hei’s head, ”It’s getting late, let’s go home.”

She spoke as she tossed the remaining lotus seeds into the pond while heading in the direction of home.

She was strong, and after circling the fish pond, she had spread the lotus seeds evenly across almost the entire pond. This way, by the time they sprout and bloom next year, the sight would be even more beautiful.

Back home, seeing her mother and second sister cooking, Xiaomi greeted them and took a bamboo rake, getting ready to scoop some water hyacinth from the pond in the yard.

Earlier that day, Uncle Liu and the others had all gone back. Xie Fuya, living next door, had also left.

Xie Fuya would be staying in the city until after the New Year when the baby was born, according to the doctor’s estimation, around mid-January. After resting the full postpartum month, it would be March.

Only now did Xiaomi learn that postpartum rest could last more than a month.

If conditions allowed, it would typically be forty to fifty days to recover well, making it easier for the mother in future pregnancies!

Of course, in poorer families, even resting for three days was considered a luxury; the disparity between rich and poor was just inevitable.

Dragging a basket of water hyacinths past the kitchen, she was spotted by her second mother, who quickly reminded her to call everyone for a meal.

Xiaomi acknowledged and continued dragging the hyacinths outside. Winter water hyacinths appeared thicker, with deeper color, but they hadn’t withered.

She could actually carry it, given her almost year-long training wasn’t in vain.

However, it was cold, and wet water hyacinths dripped water, making soaked clothes unbearably cold!

After tossing the water hyacinths into the fish pond, she called out to her father and brother-in-law in the fields, and then went to the spring to scoop more water hyacinths.

Despite the scarce winter rain, the water level in the spring hadn’t dropped, indicating the mountain’s water supply was ample.

The water ditch dug from the spring was barely a fist wide. Filling the fish pond with adequate water wouldn’t be easy.

But after the start of spring comes the rain, often for several days at a stretch, and water levels rise naturally.

Xiaomi threw another batch of water hyacinths into the fish pond, then descended the steps, dipping her hand in, slyly releasing a large amount of Spiritual Spring water.

The water here virtually wouldn’t be lost, and the added Spiritual Spring water could better aid the growth of water hyacinths and lotus seeds.

”Xiaomi, it’s cold, come home for food, stop playing in the water.” Wei Ziang had returned at some point.

Xiaomi clapped her hands, climbing out, ”Coming! Big Brother, how many dandelions have you dug up? Are we having them tonight?”

”Yes, I asked Aunt to heat some water before I left, we can prepare them soon.”

Tender dandelions were stripped of old leaves, washed, boiled, then tossed in a cold salad, and were absolutely delicious!

Even if Xiaomi didn’t have ulcers, she would love eating them!
