Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 247: Chapter 205: Busy Morning (Part 3)

With the secret help of Jiang Hu watering the Spiritual Spring, these trees grew very well. Not only did they make the chicken area less barren, but in the summer, they also provided shade for the chickens from the sun.

In addition, several grass huts were built in the chicken coop, filled with a lot of nesting material specifically for the chickens to lay eggs.

Eggs had to be collected every morning and evening.

The two each carried a bamboo basket. When it became too heavy, they would transfer them to a bamboo basket. If that basket became too heavy to move, they would cover it up and wait for their parents to come back to move it.

Once the eggs were collected, Xiao Xue had already started cooking the pig feed, and after setting up the firewood, she came over to help.

There weren’t many eggs today, so the three of them carried them back together. Then, each of them took a basket of wild grass to feed the ducks and geese at the pond.

Jiang Hu and Wei Ziang continued to search for eggs. Generally, ducks and geese would lay eggs indoors at night, but this wasn’t absolute.

So there were special nest spots by the riverbank for the ducks and geese. They could always find a few there, as sometimes they’d also lay eggs in the water.

If they were laid in the water and were close to the shore, they’d be retrieved with a special rake. But for those that couldn’t be seen, there was no way to get them.

There weren’t many duck and goose eggs around the pond. After a lap around, there were just about ten or so.

Just as they were about to leave, Jiang Hu’s peripheral vision caught a hint of pink, ”Hey, little brother, look, there’s actually a bud here.”

On the mountain, by the other pond, the surrounding shade of trees kept the temperature low, causing the lotus flowers to bloom a bit later. There were still many there now.

But here at this pond, it was exposed to the sun from morning till night, with flowers starting to bloom in early June, and lotus seeds harvested in July and August.

It’s already September now. The pond only had about a dozen lotus seed heads left deliberately for seeds; the rest were all picked already.

As for the lotuses, they were gone long ago, and even the more attractive lotus leaves had been picked by Auntie Er for making lotus tea.

Aside from vegetables and grains, Jiang’s family’s lotus tea was also in high demand.

There’s no denying that Uncle Liu was definitely a benefactor for the Jiang family.

Previously, it was because of Uncle Liu that the connection to the Tongfu Restaurant opened up, ensuring no one dared to trouble the Jiang family.

And now, Uncle Liu directly introduced a merchant manager from the county to the Jiang family, or should I say, to the people of Fu’an Village.

Anything that couldn’t be consumed in Xiangma Town, they’d give to him; he’d collect everything.

Jiang Hu couldn’t help but suspect that this so-called manager was probably someone from the Liu family.

After all, whenever he came to Jiang’s house, he was exceedingly polite to Uncle Liu and Liu Ze!

But since Uncle Liu wouldn’t admit it, they pretended not to know.

Following Jiang Hu’s gaze, Wei Ziang also saw it, ”This one’s blooming quite late.”

Jiang Hu rubbed his chin, ”It’s been a while since I’ve eaten lotus seeds. Little brother, let’s climb the mountain later to pick some.”

After yesterday’s scare with the others, Jiang Hu knew better than to expect to go alone today.

So, it was fine to just bring someone along.

Wei Ziang didn’t refuse, ”Sure, but we should head back. The sun’s getting hot, and the little birds you brought back yesterday haven’t been fed yet.”

Jiang Hu slapped his forehead, ”Right, let’s go quickly, feed them, and then we’ll head up the mountain.”

In a hurry, they rushed home. Jiang Wei had already caught many bugs in the vegetable field, and using two small twigs, was feeding a caterpillar to the little peacock in the bamboo basket.

The little peacock was kept in the woodshed, but Jiang Hu thought that wasn’t ideal.

The courtyard hadn’t been fully sunlit yet, so they, along with Wei Ziang, carried the basket outside, closed the front and back doors, and let the little peacock out.

Then, they took a small bamboo tube to feed it, refreshed the water with Spiritual Spring, tossed a few tender cabbage leaves, and some of the bugs Jiang Hu had caught on top.

”Alright, we don’t need to mind them. They’ll eat by themselves, as long as the two doors aren’t opened, they won’t run out.”

Just as they were speaking, the sound of Blacky barking came from the back door. Jiang Wei turned around to open it, ”It must be back looking for food. Blacky’s bowl is still full.”

As soon as the back door opened, a black figure rushed in straight to its food bowl, covered in mud, seemingly having gone who knows where.

Jiang Hu patted Blacky’s back, ”Blacky, you should look after these little birds from now on, don’t let them escape, and don’t catch them either, okay?”

Blacky was obedient, even while eating, allowing anyone from the Jiang family to touch it without barking.

Blacky responded with two whimpers before continuing to gulp down noodles boiled in plain water.

It must’ve been cooked for it in the morning when Auntie Er and the others were making breakfast. It had turned clumpy by now, but Blacky was just coming back to eat it.

The sudden entrance of Blacky into the yard startled the little peacocks, causing them to scatter, but they quickly regrouped into a bunch.

Jiang Hu really trusted Blacky, as the dog hadn’t harassed the chicks born at home before.

”Alright then, little brother, let’s get going. If we delay any longer, it’ll be very hot when we return.”

”Sister, where are you going?”

”To the mountain pond, to pick lotus flowers. Want to come along?”

Wei Ziang had already picked up a backpack and a pair of long scissors attached to a bamboo pole, which were used to cut the distant lotus flowers.

Jiang Wei jumped up immediately, ”Yes, I want to go, I want to go!”
