Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 218: Chapter 196: It Finally Rained

Jiang Hu led everyone to the back door, beside the cattle pen there was a room, and it was all piled with various crop stalks, dry and flammable.

Jiang Hu was not stingy, letting everyone carry a bundle on their back, heading towards the river with the moonlight.

As they approached the riverbank, they could clearly feel something hitting their legs.

Jiang Hu was stunned for a moment, then reacted in shock: ”Locusts! The locusts have already come to this place!”

From when Liu Yang came to find him to the riverbank, it had been at most an hour. In this short hour, the locusts by the riverbank had already reached the fields, and were even swiftly spreading further.

And at this time, Jiang Hu and the others had only reached halfway between the Jiang family and the riverbank, but they could already feel the abundance of locusts.

”Yes, more and more. If we don’t deal with it in time, fear there will be more.”

The village chief carried last year’s sorghum stalks, Liu Yang and Jiang Hu carried dry firewood. Last winter, because of the drought, there was no work in the fields, so they went to the mountains to chop wood when there was nothing to do.

There was a lot of firewood at home, so they didn’t care about it now.

The riverbed was crowded with people, flickering with torchlight, many people busy along the river.

The bonfires stretched from the end of the village to the head of the village.

”The firelight will attract locusts to fly over, and it can burn the eggs in the fields. Whether it works or not, it’s better than doing nothing.”

The village chief explained to Jiang Hu and then got busy by the river.

Jiang Hu also saw torches flickering on the terraced fields on the hillside. It was clear that those who had been hopeful were now busily and frantically rushing to harvest.

You could vaguely hear shouting coming from the fields, it seemed that the locusts had already spread over and started ruining the crops.

The village chief laid corn stalks on the ground while shaking his head with a light sigh, some people, ah, just stubbornly refuse to understand.

Now it’s clear, locusts are increasing, and the crops in the field can’t be harvested in a short while, the loss might be significant.

Jiang Hu followed the village chief’s work, glanced around and found Liu Yang had put down the wood and left, almost all the older people were at the fields’ edge.

Except for him.

After thinking briefly, Jiang Hu understood: ”Village chief, did all the young people in the village go to help with the sorghum harvest?”

”Yes, no matter what, let’s harvest the grain first, us old folks, our eyesight isn’t good at night, so we came to work by the river.”

Jiang Hu paused his actions: ”Then I’ll go help too, no matter what, the grain is more important.”

He hastily turned and went home, the moon tonight was bright enough, Jiang Hu quickly returned home, briefly explained to his family, and took up a sickle and went out.

Second Aunt and Qixi also hurriedly followed, letting Uncle Liu and Aunt Yang watch the children at home.

Even though everyone was helping, there were still some losses, the locusts spread too quickly, and by the latter half of the night, they almost came rushing in.

Xiaomi, as usual, stayed in the space at night, Wei Ziang had stopped taking anti-inflammatory medicine, and although his wounds had scabbed over, the edges were still a bit red, so he needed to keep disinfecting them.

Xiaomi would wash and disinfect Wei Ziang’s scars every day before leaving the space.

Wei Ziang was also resting assuredly indoors, occasionally walking around the courtyard.

What puzzled and reassured Xiaomi was that Wei Ziang never once asked why it was always daytime and never night here.

Xiaomi pondered that it might be due to Wei Ziang’s youth and amnesia, so he didn’t have much concept of day and night.

Upon coming out of the space once again, Xiaomi stretched lazily as she woke up, just about to get up, Xiao Xue held her down.

”Xiaomi, if you want to sleep, just keep sleeping. You can’t go out today, dad will bring us food in a bit.”

At the same time, Xiaomi also felt it, the ’bang bang bang’ sound of something hitting the paper window was the incessant insects hitting the window.

Some fell to the ground, while others crawled around on the window.

Xiaomi took a deep breath: ”Why are there so many locusts!”

It had only been one night!

Xiao Xue thought her sister was scared, she patted her back comforting her: ”Xiaomi, don’t be afraid, the doors and windows are closed, they won’t get in, the grain is in the cellar, we won’t go hungry.”

In Xiao Xue’s heart, as long as they weren’t hungry, that was already the happiest thing.

Xiaomi nodded, she wasn’t afraid, but the drought still hadn’t passed, and now the locust plague had come, everyone’s life was going to be even harder.
