Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 235: Chapter 201: In Town (Part 3)

After asking around, he found out that the child was picked up by Xiaomi and is now an adopted child of the Jiang family, which surprised him a bit.

After drinking a pot of tea and chatting with Shopkeeper Liu about the current situation, Jiang Hu left Tongfu Restaurant with his wife and children.

Of course, after asking what vegetables the Jiang family currently had, Shopkeeper Liu reordered a batch of vegetables to be delivered every morning.

However, the recovery is not complete yet, and with fewer customers, only five or six pounds of vegetables are needed daily. The prices are naturally a bit lower than last year.

This can’t be helped; everyone is in the same situation right now. Only when the market fully recovers, when everyone is willing and able to spend money at the restaurant, will the prices for everything return to normal.

Next, Jiang Hu carried a basket of greens and, with Jiang Yu, went to the school to inquire about schooling.

Earlier, when passing by the granary, he noticed it had returned to normal, with many people buying grain. According to passers-by, although the price had increased a bit, it wasn’t unreasonable.

Thus, grains are not as scarce, but vegetables, well, they’re still not plentiful and are considered luxurious, even more precious than meat.

When the basket was placed on the ox cart earlier, it was covered with black oilcloth to prevent passers-by from seeing it.

Second Mother thought it would be unsuitable for so many people to head over, so she took the remaining few to the market.

Thankfully, she only had to take care of Tiedan. The other three, with Xiaomi in the middle, each holding one hand, walked ahead, eliminating any worry of getting lost.

There were few people in the market, and even fewer goods for sale, mostly pickled and dried vegetables, and even some wild greens.

Nonetheless, there were buyers, all from the town.

The meats were just some small fish, which the Jiang family already had, so after making a round, they ended up buying nothing.

Finally, they went to the fabric store and bought some embroidery threads for Xiaoxue, with nothing else needing attention.

Before going to school, Second Mother asked the children if there was anything they wanted to buy, but everyone shook their heads.

There wasn’t much on the street anyway, and it was better to save money for future use.

After circling back to the school, Jiang Hu and Jiang Yu also came out, having only bought embroidery threads for Xiaoxue on this outing.

”The teacher is unwell and wants to take another month to recuperate. Classes will resume next month.”

The basket was brought back empty, as it was obvious that even the teacher couldn’t resist the temptation of vegetables.

”Next month, huh, it’ll be quite hot then.”

Next month will be June.

Jiang Hu wasn’t concerned: ”We leave early in the morning and return in the afternoon. It’s alright. Last year, we didn’t start school until July or August.”

Second Mother nodded: ”Once we get back, Yu’er still needs to study hard. Don’t forget what you’ve learned when you start school next month.”

”Don’t worry, mom. I know. Just yesterday, I arranged with Liu Hai for him to come over this afternoon to study with me.”

Once everyone got on the ox cart, Jiang Hu cracked the whip.

”We still need to buy some paper, ink, and brushes for Yu’er. The teacher said next month they’ll start learning to write, and recently these items have become cheaper.”

After all, everyone’s main concern now is food and how to fill their stomachs, making education seem less important.

Especially since there’s just this one school in the town, and classes haven’t started yet, naturally, no one is buying these items.

”Dad, get some for Liu Hai too, so they don’t have to make another trip tomorrow. If Uncle Liu doesn’t need it, I’ll just keep it for future use.”

Jiang Yu and Liu Hai had been friends since their days of fleeing, and now Liu Hai enjoyed following him.

Liu Hai could be considered like another younger brother to Jiang Yu, so he often thought of Liu Hai.

Besides, Liu’s uncle and his own father had such a good relationship; helping Liu Hai by getting pens and ink should not upset his father too much.

”I’ll buy more. When Liu Hai comes in the afternoon, tell him to ask his father if they need any. Otherwise, they might want to get it themselves.”

After all, supplies like paper, ink, and brushes aren’t cheap, even if the price has dropped a bit due to the market’s current state.

Jiang Yu nodded, and when they arrived at the bookstore, they bought the cheapest paper and ink. Even so, it cost more than a dozen taels of silver.

Of course, they mainly bought a lot, and in duplicate.

Nothing much happened. By the time the family returned to Fu’an Village, it was noon, just as Liu Hai’s grandfather was coming back from the fields.

Jiang Hu told him about the children’s schooling and the paper, ink, and brush situation, asking him to inform Liu Yang.

Over the years, the two families had gotten along so well that they seemed more like relatives than actual kin.

Thus, when Liu Hai’s grandfather heard Jiang Hu out, instead of feeling he was meddling, he repeatedly thanked him, leaving Jiang Hu a bit embarrassed.
