Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 2917: Chapter 2030: They Started Fighting!

”Mr. Morgan, I’m sorry to disturb you! But this time, I have something very important to report to you!”

In a certain room, Reid, unable to hold back his impatience, was calling the master he had just publicly pledged loyalty to.

At this hour, Vice Chairman Morgan was also in the middle of dinner.

Receiving Reid’s call, Vice Chairman Morgan very considerately put down his cutlery, interrupted his meal, and picked up the phone.

”What’s going on, Mr. Reid?” Vice Chairman Morgan’s voice was very calm over the phone.

But he also knew, for Reid to call at this time, there had to be something up—and not something small.

”Here’s the situation, Mr. Morgan—just now, literally just now, at the banquet Mrs. Margery held for that Bai Xiaosheng, Bai Xiaosheng and Mr. Kaleb almost got into a fight. No, they already did get into a fight! They actually started throwing punches!”

As Reid relayed the news, he couldn’t suppress a faint, underlying excitement in his tone.

”Oh?!”

Hearing this, Vice Chairman Morgan couldn’t help sounding surprised. ”Really! You’re saying Bai Xiaosheng and Kaleb actually came to blows?!”

Kaleb—Vice Chairman Morgan naturally knew who that was.

That was the Dong Family’s direct-line man he’d planted in the Sixth Business Division, and the one slated this time to take the post of Executive President of the Sixth Business Division.

”Tell me exactly what happened.” Vice Chairman Morgan urged.

Reid didn’t dare slack off; he organized his words and then said, ”That Bai Xiaosheng came with his identity concealed, no one knew who he was at the time. He and Miss Clark somehow hit it off and ended up drinking together.”

”You may not know this, Mr. Kaleb has always had a particular fondness for Miss Clark. When he saw that scene, of course he was unhappy and tried to take Miss Clark away. But Bai Xiaosheng refused, the two started arguing, Mr. Kaleb lost his temper and took a swing, only to be countered by Bai Xiaosheng...”

After describing all this, Reid went on, ”Later, Mrs. Margery arrived, and that’s when we found out that young man was actually Bai Xiaosheng! And then he brazenly declared in public that he was going to investigate Mr. Kaleb, even saying Kaleb’s company was suspected of all sorts of violations!”

”Listen to that—he hasn’t even started any investigation yet, and Bai Xiaosheng just strips him of all face in front of everyone. That’s insanely arrogant!”

Vice Chairman Morgan had gotten the picture.

Even over the phone, he couldn’t help clicking his tongue.

Then Vice Chairman Morgan sighed and said, ”So Bai Xiaosheng actually has such a young and reckless side as well. How rare! After all these years, I’d always thought that young shell of his contained an old and pedantic soul—someone just like me, an old man!”

But as soon as he finished, Vice Chairman Morgan suddenly let out a light ”Huh” and said repeatedly, ”No. No, no, no.”

”With how fiendishly sharp Bai Xiaosheng’s mind is, for a woman he would actually lose decorum like that in public? There’s something off here, isn’t there?”

You couldn’t really blame Vice Chairman Morgan for being this cautious; he’d dealt with Caroline and Bai Xiaosheng more than once or twice.

The two sides had crossed swords many times.

In Vice Chairman Morgan’s eyes, that brat had never once committed such a childish mistake.

To throw everything aside and start a brawl over a woman he’d only met once?

Impossible.

Hearing this, Reid’s heart surged with excitement.

Now was the perfect moment for him to offer his own opinion.

”Mr. Morgan, the reason that Bai Xiaosheng put on that ’flying into a rage for a beauty’ act, even going so high-profile as to declare that Mr. Kaleb has all kinds of issues and announcing he’ll investigate him—in my humble view, that’s just a smokescreen!”

Reid said urgently, ”He’s trying to make everyone think he’s acting on impulse for a woman. In reality, he’s probably planned this disturbance for a long time. He just needed a pretext. The investigation of Mr. Kaleb might be nothing but a feint; he may even already hold some solid evidence. The real target he wants to point the spear at is you!”

In fact, even without Reid spelling it out, Vice Chairman Morgan had already thought of this.

”Exactly. What you’re thinking is basically the same as what I’m thinking.” Vice Chairman Morgan said in a deep voice. ”That kind of ’one thing on the surface, another behind the scenes’—that’s very much Bai Xiaosheng’s style. It fits perfectly!”

”So you need to prepare early and not let that little rat get his way!” Reid followed through smoothly.

”It’s good you made this call, and your reminder is on point.” Vice Chairman Morgan praised over the phone.

”You flatter me!”

Buoyed by the compliment, Reid was thoroughly excited and encouraged.

”By the way, where’s Kaleb? Is he still over there?” Vice Chairman Morgan suddenly asked.

Kaleb...

Reid answered carefully, ”Mr. Kaleb left just now; he should be in a rush to get back and carry out some ’defensive’ measures. I imagine he’ll contact you a bit later. Mr. Kaleb is such a cautious man, and very thorough in his work—he might actually manage to deal with everything on all fronts and turn whatever evidence Bai Xiaosheng has into nothing.”

Reid’s answer could be said to show considerable ”skill.”

First of all, Kaleb was Vice Chairman Morgan’s close, direct-line family member, while he himself was an outsider. Criticizing Kaleb right off the bat would be a major taboo.

But if Kaleb really could handle all the crises perfectly, then it would make Reid’s intelligence report look worthless.

So Reid’s wording was mainly flattering, yet cleverly avoided those taboos and still highlighted the value of his information.

Second, he was the one who had informed Vice Chairman Morgan first; later Kaleb would definitely report in as well.

By then, if Vice Chairman Morgan blew up in anger, Kaleb would inevitably harbor resentment toward Reid.

At that point, if Vice Chairman Morgan ”casually” mentioned his recognition of Reid’s view of Kaleb, that could also reduce some of Kaleb’s hostility toward him.

Kaleb, after all, was from Vice Chairman Morgan’s own family. If he couldn’t stay on this side any longer, he’d go back, and then he’d be physically closer to Vice Chairman Morgan than Reid was. If they ended up enemies, there’d be no guarantee Kaleb wouldn’t badmouth him.
