Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 2908: Chapter 2026: The First Candidate (Part 2)

Without realizing it, this would influence some of Bai Xiaosheng’s decisions, and might even ultimately change the course of certain events—some very important events!

...

Clarke finally managed to get rid of the last person, let out a breath and sat down, giving Bai Xiaosheng an apologetic smile. ”Really sorry, I’d wanted to sit quietly and have a proper chat with you, but in the end...”

”It’s fine, this just proves you’re popular, Miss Clark.” Bai Xiaosheng raised his glass with a smile. ”Besides, the cocktail party hasn’t even started yet. We’ve got plenty of time to talk.”

Looking at the young man in front of her, Clarke couldn’t help the smile that surfaced.

Sometimes, chatting with certain people just inexplicably feels comfortable, feels easy. The young man in front of her was exactly that kind of person.

On top of that, he carried a certain ease and elegance, which made Clarke naturally want to get closer, to appreciate him.

And also, for single people, outstanding members of the opposite sex are always particularly attractive.

This young man might look a bit younger than her, but he was handsome and humorous, and the fact that he could attend such a high-end cocktail party tonight proved his abilities were anything but ordinary. Relative to his age, his potential far surpassed all the greasy middle-aged men present.

Just as Clarke was about to continue her conversation with Bai Xiaosheng, she suddenly heard a commotion.

”It’s Mr. Kaleb!”

”Mr. Kaleb is here!”

Hearing that name, Clarke couldn’t help lifting her eyes, her brows instinctively knitting ever so slightly.

Bai Xiaosheng also turned to look.

For him, this was the first time hearing that name, yet it still sounded memorable, because it had just been circling through his mind several times.

Kaleb was also one of the final four candidates for Executive President of the Sixth Business Division, and he had the highest support and the most buzz!

Practically the number one candidate!

Besides that, from the information Red Lotus had compiled, Bai Xiaosheng knew that Kaleb came from Vice Chairman Morgan’s family!

With a person like that, you didn’t even need to think about it to know—he was clearly a piece that Vice Chairman Morgan had planted in the Sixth Business Division.

Seeing Clarke’s expression, Bai Xiaosheng wasn’t surprised. Clarke was a woman who never lacked in tabloid gossip, and the hottest rumor right now was exactly about her and that Mr. Kaleb.

That Mr. Kaleb had even publicly responded, declaring his admiration for Miss Clark.

If it really ended up being Clarke and Kaleb vying for the Executive President position, then under pressure from Vice Chairman Morgan’s side, her chances of winning would be slim.

As for the other two candidates, from the little clues Bai Xiaosheng had picked up, he’d learned that they too had countless ties to Vice Chairman Morgan. They were essentially ”attached runners,” and the one who was ninety percent likely to be pushed into the top spot in the end was that Mr. Kaleb.

Bai Xiaosheng also wanted to see what kind of person he was.

Tall and handsome, debonair, or perhaps scholarly and elegant, a gentleman above the crowd?

He saw, at the entrance to the banquet hall, surrounded by a crowd of people welcoming him, a group escorting one man inside.

From afar, at just one glance, Bai Xiaosheng couldn’t help feeling a little disappointed.

The one coming in was a man in his forties—on paper, that was the age, but he looked almost fifty. His looks were frankly worrisome; not only did he have nothing to do with ”handsome,” he was balding, and under the lights of the banquet hall from a distance, his head looked like it was glowing.

Bai Xiaosheng had excellent eyesight, and with Red Lotus’s assistance, even at this distance he could clearly see the man’s features.

You couldn’t say he was deformed or grotesque, but he was really plain, hovering around lower-middle tier, and his smile even carried a hint of sleaze...

Of course, you can’t judge people just by appearances; you still have to look at their ability and substance.

But Bai Xiaosheng truly didn’t feel that such a showy, unrestrained, greasy middle-aged man had the capability to match the role of Executive President.

Even his aura was far off!

If he was Vice Chairman Morgan’s man, then whether he was capable or not wasn’t that important. Loyalty was enough. As long as that side was willing to support him, massive performance numbers would come pouring in like a flood, and it’d be all too easy to forcibly hoist a useless man up to a high position...

After observing this Mr. Kaleb, Bai Xiaosheng let his gaze drift and then suddenly froze for a moment.

He’d just realized that the people clustered around Kaleb were all people he knew.

Binge, Tiwei’er, Kuna, Fain.

At that moment, the four young people were acting as followers, faces full of pride.

Even that Miss Tiwei’er was plastered to Kaleb’s side with a full smile.

A thought flashed through Bai Xiaosheng’s mind. He pulled up Tiwei’er’s file in his head and skimmed it again, and immediately understood.

Counting it out, Kaleb was actually Tiwei’er’s younger uncle...

”That’s the person I hate the most, and I didn’t expect him to show up this fast.” Clarke, sitting opposite Bai Xiaosheng, couldn’t help saying with some disgust.

Bai Xiaosheng comforted her. ”Since you hate him, let’s just sit here and pretend we didn’t see him.”

Clarke turned her gaze on Bai Xiaosheng, half-smiling. ”That man might very well be the future Executive President of the Sixth Business Division. You’re really not going over to cozy up a bit? At the very least you should say hello, so as not to be rude, no?”

”You think I like him?” Bai Xiaosheng gave a carefree smile.

That line felt good.

Clarke smiled and raised her glass. ”Rare to see someone whose tastes line up so well with mine.”

”Then we’ve got to drink to that!” Bai Xiaosheng said with a smile, lifting his glass.

Everyone else in the room went over to say hello to Mr. Kaleb. They were all pillars of the Sixth Business Division, people who controlled large enterprises; they’d be seeing each other all the time, heads down or up, and on top of that, Kaleb was very likely the next Executive President.

These shrewd businessmen would never make things difficult for themselves when it came to face.

The only ”exceptions” in the entire hall were Bai Xiaosheng and Clarke.

Over there, Kaleb was all smiles as he greeted those who came up to him.

Binge, Tiwei’er and the other two young people clustered close around him; they were tagging along on Kaleb’s coattails—only because of him could they even get in here.

Very soon, that Mr. Kaleb noticed the two of them, because there was no one around them over there, so the two stood out naturally.

When he saw Miss Clark, Kaleb’s eyes practically lit up on the spot.

When they saw Bai Xiaosheng, Binge, Tiwei’er and the others also had subtle changes in their expressions.

They truly hadn’t expected Bai Xiaosheng to be here, hadn’t expected him to get in. With Fei’er backing this man, they couldn’t afford to provoke him.

But now, they’d come with Kaleb!

Even Mrs. Margery, Fei’er’s mother, had to give Kaleb some face!

After all, the one behind Kaleb was none other than the Group’s Vice Chairman Morgan!

With that backing, Binge, Tiwei’er and the others quickly grew bolder.

After Kaleb finished exchanging pleasantries with those around him, he headed straight for Clarke.

Binge and the others flanked him on both sides, going over together, not even bothering to fear Bai Xiaosheng’s gaze.

”The person I can’t stand still came!” Clarke’s eyes darkened slightly as she noticed.

But no matter how irritated she felt, she couldn’t just walk away. After all, the party hadn’t started yet, and Mrs. Margery hadn’t arrived.

”Miss Clark, long time no see!” From quite a distance away, Kaleb already let out a hearty laugh and raised his voice. ”It’s been a good while since we last met.”

This time, Clarke did not stand up. She responded calmly, ”Hello, Mr. Kaleb.”

”Good, good, I’m very good! Seeing Miss Clark puts me in an impossibly good mood. This time we really have to sit down and talk properly!” Kaleb’s eyes were bright as he walked over with a squinty smile.

Everyone could see his little scheming thoughts about Clarke!

But this greasy middle-aged man, bald and unable to hide his big belly, was brimming with enthusiasm to take a bite of swan meat.

It was downright disgusting.

Bai Xiaosheng just sat there, too lazy to even look.

Kaleb said he wanted a good chat with Clarke, then his gaze slid toward Bai Xiaosheng, and he couldn’t help feeling seriously displeased with this young man who didn’t know his place, who wouldn’t give up his seat and hadn’t come over to greet him.

Before Kaleb could even say anything, Binge had already stepped forward, coming to stand in front of Bai Xiaosheng and directly pointing at his nose. ”You, didn’t you see Mr. Kaleb come over? Hurry up and give up your seat! You’re actually sitting opposite Miss Clark!”

Bai Xiaosheng finally lifted his head and looked at Binge.

He only said one sentence.

”Are you itching for a beating, talking to me like that?”
