The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Not Destined to Be a Prince with a Mother-in-Law

”Qian’er, your health isn’t convenient now. Is there anyone attending to your husband?” asked Madam Song, looking at her eldest daughter, addressing the most pressing concern.

Song Ruqian blushed and shook her head, ”Mother, there isn’t. He says it’s unnecessary.”

”And your mother-in-law hasn’t assigned a trusted aide?”

Song Ruqian replied, ”My mother-in-law doesn’t interfere with matters in our quarters. She only tells me to focus on nurturing the child and not to worry about anything else, including arranging for a maid, she tells me there’s no need.”

Upon hearing this, Madam Song felt greatly relieved and sincerely sighed, ”You’ve indeed found a good mother-in-law, Qian’er. You should cherish this blessing.”

Song Ruqian gratefully said, ”This is also the blessing given to me by father and mother. Without you, I wouldn’t have what I have today, not even this marriage.”

Madam Song patted her hand, ”The Gu Family is a prominent clan, and your husband is the firstborn son. Initially, your father and I were a bit anxious after all, in the future, you’ll have to take over the responsibilities from your mother-in-law, and being the family wife isn’t easy.”

”My mother-in-law has always been diligent in guiding me.”

”So, you should empathize and treat your mother-in-law well.”

Song Ruqian nodded and, thinking of Song Ruqi, asked, ”Mother, has there been any progress with Qi’er’s marriage?”

”I have no idea what your father is thinking.” Madam Song felt a headache just bringing up the topic.

Song Ruqian was silent for a moment, then said, ”Mother, I feel Qi’er is a bit ambitious, and she might not be interested in ordinary families. Just take yesterday, for example...”

Madam Song felt a bit nervous, ”Did your sister encounter those Princes?”

”Probably not, but I noticed she seemed a bit absent-minded after hearing the news,” Song Ruqian said. ”Mother, Qi’er is close to coming of age, father should have plans. You should pay more attention. I’m worried that Qi’er, being young and impetuous, might go astray. If she gets overwhelmed, she might...”

Being the family wife of a prominent clan is difficult, but being a Royal Wife is even harder, especially for someone like Song Ruqi, who could easily become cannon fodder.

If Song Ci were here, he might applaud his granddaughter for understanding and seeing things clearly.

”Your father has already eyed a few families. Rest assured, your father never intended to pair her with a Prince,” Madam Song said, not without a hint of regret.

”Father has already said so?”

Madam Song nodded, ”Once your father decides on something, he never changes his mind. Your sister won’t be matched with any Prince. As for which family’s young master, your father hasn’t reached a conclusion yet.”

Song Ruqian nodded, ”Father is the wisest. If he decided so, he must have his reasons. Mother, you needn’t regret it, for Qi’er’s nature, not entering into the Imperial Family is better. Once in the Royal Family, how could she contend with those who are as cunning as they are numerous? Moreover, if the Song Family had a daughter enter the Royal Family, she might end up losing her autonomy.”

There’s a reason they say the firstborn daughter must be well-trained. Not only in managing the household, but in dealing with significant matters, political and social, they must understand to some extent.

Song Ruqian’s perspective, taught by famous mentors and once guided by Song Zhiyuan himself, would eventually make her a very qualified family wife of the Gu Family.

Madam Song understood this too, but in her heart, she felt a bit unresolved.

Being the Prince’s mother-in-law was simply not her fate.

Clang.

”Who’s out there?” Madam Song asked.

Someone ran off.

Madam Song frowned and was about to call someone over when Peony walked in, addressing, ”Second Miss came by just now but left again.”

Upon hearing this, Madam Song and Song Ruqian exchanged a glance.

The girl heard everything.
