The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 120: Chapter 120: The Eldest Son Who is Extremely Clever

Dusk at sunset.

The glaze lamps were lit all over the Prime Minister’s Mansion, and Chunhui Hall was as bright as day. The reason being that today is the Dragon Boat Festival, and there would be a family banquet in the mansion.

Song Ci lay down for an entire afternoon before managing to catch her breath. She was now conversing with Song Zhiyuan in the main hall about Empress Dowager Wang’s intentions.

Song Zhiyuan was dumbfounded.

How did his mother manage to bring such a heap of trouble just by entering the palace once?

Song Ci carefully observed her son, who was becoming increasingly attractive with mature charm, and said somewhat resentfully, ”Eldest son, am I bringing trouble upon myself for no reason?”

She also knew that this matter was difficult to handle, as it involved offending people, particularly the so-called maternal family of the Empress Dowager, Uncle’s Mansion of Loyalty and Diligence.

The Uncle’s Mansion had been grinding away for many years for such an heir, submitting candidates year after year, only to have Empress Dowager Wang say to wait every year until she was nearly worn out, just as they were about to see a result, and then someone intercepts it?

Oh, merely fostering would be considered intercepting, rightfully so.

The heir was an orphan selected by Empress Dowager Wang. Once selected, the person wouldn’t remain on their side but would be sent to be taught by someone else. Would they still lean toward them in the future?

Once the heir is established and grown up, granted a Duke, whoa, would they still be one of their own? Wouldn’t that be providing the wedding clothes for others, and not only that, but they would also lose the Duke’s title of Loyalty and Diligence themselves.

The more Song Ci thought about it, the more she felt people would hate this situation. Once even Uncle of Loyalty and Diligence figured it out, wouldn’t they attempt assassinations thrice a day? Moreover, if this person was well-protected, it was fine, but if not, the Empress Dowager and the Emperor might have some complaints, and Uncle’s Mansion could seize this as a handle to fiercely attack the Song Family.

Oh dear, this is not an easy matter to handle.

”Otherwise, I might as well submit a card to the palace and decline it,” Song Ci urgently suggested.

Song Zhiyuan rubbed his thumb and index finger, seeing how flustered his mother was, he smiled to reassure her, ”Mother, this matter isn’t settled yet, there’s no need to be anxious.”

”How can I not be anxious? Seeing Empress Dowager Wang’s stance, she seems determined to see this through,” Song Ci replied.

”If Empress Dowager Wang truly selects an heir, I will request from the Emperor to have them enter the palace for studies. There are plenty of palaces in the palace, is there not room for one child? That child could also keep Lady company; growing up truly by her side would make them more affectionate,” Song Zhiyuan said.

Song Ci thought about it and realized that really made sense.

Thinking that the selected person would be a child, living in the palace would pose no issue, and when they reach the right age, they would leave the palace, be bestowed a mansion, and marry— then it would all be settled.

”It’s still Eldest son who thinks things through,” Song Ci said with relief, lifting her tea.

The sharp-minded eldest son was indeed formidable, able to resolve matters at once.

Just as Song Zhiyuan was about to speak, the curtain moved, and a booming voice shattered the mother and son’s conversation.

”Mother, second son is back.”

Song Ci’s hand shook, and she looked up.

A tall and strong person instantly appeared in front, half his face covered in a bush of facial hair, his eyes full of spirit, with a square face and somewhat disheveled tied hair.

”You...” Who is this, like Wu Song.

Song Zhicheng dropped to his knees before Song Ci with a thud, knocking his forehead on the ground a few times: ”Mother, this son came back late, making you suffer.”

Song Ci: ”...”

Why does every child come back with the same line, isn’t there anything new?

Song Zhiyuan kicked his younger brother: ”Since you’re back, you don’t have to shout so loud. Go and wash up first, you look like a vagabond, don’t scare Mother.”

Song Zhicheng chuckled, rising smoothly: ”Mother, I’ll return to the courtyard to wash up and come back to talk to you later.”

Song Ci was a bit dazed watching her second son come in and go out like the wind, mother and son hadn’t even had a tearful reunion before he left.
