The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 124: Chapter 124 Song Mansion Hosts Guests

The return of the second son to the Song Family has made everyone happy, especially the Second Madam. Her face is so rosy that it seems you could squeeze water from it. Some old women secretly laugh, thinking that the Second Madam will soon have a child, and they hope she will get her wish.

However, some people are envious, like Mrs. Lu in the Plum Garden, who has torn countless handkerchiefs. She became even more sorrowful upon hearing about how many times water was fetched at her second sister-in-law’s courtyard late at night.

She wondered if her husband missed her and if Qiu Chan, whom she left behind, was serving her husband well.

Everyone had their own thoughts, but before they knew it, it was the birthday of the First Madam of the Song Family, a day also marked as a grand banquet day for the Song Mansion.

Song Ci calculated that it was around 12:30 to 3:00 in the early morning when the mansion was already fully lit, bright as midday.

Alas, as for her, she lamented that aging comes with light sleep.

Nanny Gong handed her a cup of tea. Seeing Song Ci yawn, she said, ”Madam, you need not rise so early; you could go back to sleep. Shall I ask them to work more quietly?”

Song Ci shook her head, ”No need, I have already risen and can’t sleep again, besides, don’t I still need to get dressed and made-up?”

Nanny Gong replied, ”The guests won’t arrive so early. It will probably be around the late morning before they come to the mansion, so there are several more hours to go.”

”The preparations are almost complete. Is it true that the academy is on holiday today?” Song Ci asked while changing into loose-fitting Tai Chi clothes.

”Yes, the Prime Minister said it was the First Madam’s birthday and allowed the young masters and misses a day of leisure,” Nanny Gong answered.

Song Ci acknowledged with a sound, thinking that she hadn’t visited the academy herself and pondering to see what it looks like, this school managed by the Song Family.

Having changed her clothes, Song Ci went to the usual spot for practicing Tai Chi, where Lin Qing was already waiting.

”It’s still early, you could rest a bit more,” Song Ci smiled and told Lin Qing.

Lin Qing said, ”I won’t sleep; it’s rare to see the mansion so lively.”

...

The First Madam of the Song Family rose even earlier than Song Ci, as it was her important day, and as the Lady of the house, she had more matters to handle.

Early in the morning, she led two sisters-in-law to the flower hall where they usually discussed matters and met with numerous steward mistresses, issuing commands briskly. The grand Prime Minister’s Mansion functioned like a machine suddenly switched on.

In the backyard, the First Madam along with her group managed things, while in the front yard, Song Zhicheng, along with the fourth brother and several juniors, was issuing instructions on how to greet the guests when they arrived.

After the second brother left, Song Zhiyu told several nephews, ”Boys, I’ve already found out that the number of people coming will surely exceed the invitations sent out, possibly even princes might come.”

”Fourth Uncle, that can’t be, it’s just the First Aunt’s birthday, would the princes really come?” Song Lingzhao exclaimed.

Song Zhiyu said, ”They might just use it as an excuse to foster relations with the Prime Minister’s Mansion, besides, we still have your second sister who is not yet betrothed.”

The youngsters exchanged glances.

”Even if all don’t come, if one or two come, it’s enough. Moreover, there are other young masters from other mansions. Boys, your task is to keep a close watch on them. Don’t let them wander into the female guests’ quarters, nor let any female visitors wander into the front courtyard. Today, we must not repeat the embarrassing incidents of the past,” Song Zhiyu instructed.

Song Lingsu frowned, ”Fourth Uncle means, someone might make mischief during this banquet?”

”It’s hard to say, but aren’t those mishaps usually carried out taking advantage of such gatherings? We can’t let anyone scheme against us. Not only would it be disgraceful for us as hosts, but it would also be hard to explain,” Song Zhiyu replied.

The young ones immediately responded, ”Rest assured, Fourth Uncle, we will keep a watchful eye.”
