The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 131: Chapter 131: The Fourth Son of the Song Family Entertains Relatives in Colorful Garments

As the Lady of the house, nothing in the mansion eludes Madam. After hearing Nanny’s report, she let out an almost imperceptible sneer, glanced at the Madams from the two mansions watching the theater, took a sip of tea, and suppressed the mockery in her eyes.

The Li Mansion, which has always prided itself on placing etiquette above all, and values rules and propriety most, do they know that their young lady intends to intrude upon the gentlemen’s gathering place?

And this is the family of the Minister of Rites.

Then there’s the Pingchang Marquis Mansion. Many years ago, their grand Madams publicly claimed that the Song Mansion were country bumpkins who didn’t understand manners. Now, how is it with the young lady of the Pingchang Marquis Mansion?

Madam softly instructed, ”Have someone keep a closer watch, don’t let those young ladies wander blindly. For those two young ladies, when you escort the guests out, apologize to Madam Li and the Madam of Pingchang Marquis.”

Nanny’s eyes flickered, and she said respectfully, ”Rest assured, Madam, this old servant will certainly apologize properly.”

Madam smiled, and once again focused her gaze on the theater stage. Nanny was most attuned to her intentions and surely would reclaim a sense of dignity for the Song Mansion.

Onstage, a performance of ”The Romance of the Western Chamber” came to a close, and many of the Madams below were sniffling, moved to tears.

Song Ci yawned, feeling a bit bored.

”Grand Madam, didn’t you find it moving?” Madam Bai, who had previously remarked that Song Ci seemed to have changed, dabbed at her eyes with a handkerchief and looked at Song Ci.

Song Ci responded with an ”Ah”: ”It is quite touching.”

In her heart, though, she thought, what’s so touching? Hadn’t she seen enough melodramas in her past life? It was just another twist-filled tale where lovers finally end up together.

She was already immune.

Madam Bai choked back her words, questioning if such perfunctory replies were really appropriate.

”Oh my, look at the stage.”

Song Ci turned to look, and almost spat out her tea.

How come her little Baoyu was on stage, dressed so pleasingly, with his face painted?

”Old sister, is that your fourth boy?” Grand Madam Wei, sitting beside Song Ci, tugged at her sleeve with a smile.

Everyone turned to look, wondering what was going on.

Song Ci was equally puzzled, and laughed: ”It’s that rascal.”

As for what was happening, she had no idea.

On stage, Song Zhiyu had already begun speaking, charmingly bowing to the Madams and young misses, explaining why he stood there.

Ah, to entertain his elders in colorful clothes, in celebration of his sister-in-law’s birthday, he was performing magic tricks.

Song Ci immediately recalled the chaotic ’magic show’ he put on during the Dragon Boat Festival family banquet, couldn’t help but facepalm. Truly he could make a scene, just for a look from that Miss Wang, he put on such a grand display.

Song Zhiyu wouldn’t heed his mother’s expression. If he wanted to see someone, he had to do it in a special way.

The ladies present, whose usual entertainments were theater and recitals, or reading a few storybooks and unofficial histories, rarely saw magic tricks.

They watched as Song Zhiyu held a red silk ribbon, deftly folding it into a flower, then displayed it to the audience, showing it was just a silk flower.

He stepped down from the stage and circled around Madam, suddenly moving his hand behind her, and out of nowhere, a real rose appeared, which he presented to Madam.

The ladies gasped in amazement, continuously asking about the ribbon.

”Happy birthday to my sister-in-law, may you bloom like a flower year after year, and have all your wishes come true.”

Madam was overjoyed, sniffed the rose: ”It’s a real flower, thank you, Fourth Son.”

Song Zhiyu was very pleased with himself.

Song Ci’s mouth twitched—if you don’t tuck the end of that ribbon into your sleeve soon, you’ll be exposed.
