The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 111: Chapter 111 Dressing Up to Enter the Palace, The Neck is Doomed

During the Dragon Boat Festival, every household adorned their homes with calamus and moxa grass and wore Five Poison Pouches.

Before dawn, Song Ci was dragged out of bed by the palace nanny to get dressed in full ceremonial attire, as she had to enter the palace to pay her respects to the Empress Dowager.

In fact, Song Ci didn’t really want to go. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to see how grand and magnificent the real Imperial Palace was, but she feared she might expose herself since she had only transmigrated a month ago and had just adapted to the Prime Minister’s Mansion.

Moreover, the person she was visiting in the palace was the Empress Dowager, someone she had once endured hardships with. What if she brought up the tough days of the past and Song Ci couldn’t keep up the charade?

But the Empress Dowager had specially issued an imperial edict summoning her to the palace for a chat, saying she missed her.

With such an imperial invitation, Song Ci couldn’t pretend otherwise anymore. She had to engage in socializing and networking on behalf of her eldest son, and besides, the Empress Dowager was her amulet, so she had to muster the courage despite her apprehension.

After receiving the edict, Song Ci earnestly tried to recall the original body’s memories. Strangely enough, some memories were a bit blurred and hard to remember, which made her so anxious that she almost wished she could summon the old lady’s spirit to get her testimony straight.

No matter how much Song Ci dreamed or muttered or burned incense, the old lady never appeared. She didn’t even know if she had reincarnated.

Alas.

The palace nanny heard Song Ci sigh and assumed she was worried. She bent down and said, ”Madam, you needn’t worry. This old servant will be with you. If there’s anything you truly can’t remember, just say that you don’t recall much after your illness.”

Song Ci looked at her, finding it a bit odd, but the palace nanny simply nodded with an honest gaze and a smile.

”I’m old, and I’ve had a stroke, so of course, I don’t remember things clearly,” Song Ci shamelessly said. ”I’m just worried that wearing this crown all day might bend my old neck.”

Heavens, she was truly astounded by ancient people; wearing such a heavy crown—if it didn’t break your neck, it would surely give you cervical spondylosis.

It must weigh several pounds.

”There’s no banquet in the palace, so you should return to the mansion in the afternoon unless the Empress Dowager keeps you for a meal,” the palace nanny chuckled.

Song Ci thought, oh no, that would require so much caution and attention.

After much fussing, Song Ci trembled as she stood up, her body swaying slightly.

Oh dear, feeling top-heavy like this was miserable.

Her body was already small and frail, although she had gotten somewhat better through exercise. But she was still elderly and weak, and now with the crown and jewelry combined, they must weigh over ten pounds.

The palace nanny quickly reached out to support her: ”Madam, are you alright?”

”No, it’s a big problem,” Song Ci said, grabbing her hand. ”You must hold me fast, Nanny. I’m truly afraid that when I bow to the Empress Dowager, I’ll just crash to the ground. This golden crown, I believe, the Imperial Household Department truly made it with pure gold—it’s incredibly heavy.”

The palace nanny smiled gently, ”Rest assured, I will hold you steadily, Madam.”

Hong You walked in, gave a respectful curtsy, and said, ”Madam, the Mistress has already arrived.”

For this entry into the palace, besides Song Ci, wives from various noble families were also going to pay their respects to the Empress to celebrate the festival, and Madam Song, being the wife of such a first-rank noble as well, was included.

”Then let’s go, we mustn’t be late,” Song Ci extended her other hand to Hong You.

It was truly difficult for her to walk; besides the heavy golden crown, she was also wearing a nine-layered Imperial Decree Clothes, which was incredibly heavy.

Oh heavens, she almost wished someone could carry her there.
