Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

”Layered battlefield, layered battlefield!”

Akad looked at the others in the box who were utterly ecstatic, merely shaking his head.

It seemed like they thought they could actually get it... On the other hand, Carmille was a bit envious.

”Calamity Gourd...”

She was tempted by the reward for Sequence Number 2.

”Don’t think too much, those aren’t for us to take.”

Akad reminded with indifference, while Carmille smiled at Akad.

”What? You’re not tempted?”

”Of course I’m tempted, but what’s the use of that? To be honest, I’ve faced Vincent a few times over these past two years. His strength is almost equal to mine. Hmm, physical attributes over eighty thousand. Can you imagine that concept?”

After saying this, Akad observed Carmille’s shocked expression and couldn’t help but feel sorry for her.

This girl had decent potential, but ended up wasting several years in some unknown corner. Now, she wasn’t much at all. If not for holding the title of Sequence Number 8, she might have been eliminated in the contest.

Beside them, Dick, Vasili, and Katou Asahi were shouting and cheering, as if the rewards for the top five sequences were already in their hands. Dick even made a lofty promise of aiming for Sequence Number 1.

A bunch of bumpkins, Akad silently mocked in his heart...

Soon, you’ll be the ones crying.

...

Out in the open-air seating area, Walter sat alone in a shady spot, reminiscing about the sequence rewards earlier. After a while, a smile suddenly curled up at the corner of Walter’s mouth.

The Pitch-dark Edict, if he could get his hands on it, he might be able to exchange something good with Yanjing. Yes, indeed, the old man wouldn’t make such clear distinctions between friend and foe on matters like this... But even the old man got involved this time, aiming for Sequence Number 3 might be tough, though the reward for Sequence Number 4 seemed decent too.

Walter continuously calculated the threats posed by the powerful experts from Yanjing, when suddenly, his surroundings flickered with patches of white light.

These challengers were long unable to hold back...

...

The Gentleman’s Agreement had just been settled when Wen Yu caught sight of the large patches of white light flickering at the skill competition arena outside through the corner of his eye. At the same time, Wen Yu and Tang Haofei both noticed two thin, transparent display screens, roughly the size of A4 paper, suddenly appear in their hands. The names and avatars from Sequence Number 1 to Sequence Number 100 were clearly visible on them, constantly changing by the moment.

Outside, as long as a challenger selected the avatar of a specific sequence, they could initiate a challenge against it—though there was no specific indication of strength, meaning whether they encounter a strong or weak sequence was entirely up to luck. Hmm, the ability to gather intelligence was also part of one’s strength.

Fortunately, the top ten sequences didn’t need to worry about being challenged, which was a little rule-based leniency.

So, all this had nothing to do with Wen Yu and Tang Haofei. They were happy to sit back in the box, watching the upheaval as heroes contended for supremacy, though both kept their eyes closed, constantly adjusting their states.

The current little skirmishes outside were hardly worth worrying about. The most crucial battle was still yet to happen between the two of them.

...

In Challenge Space Number 16, Lin Haifeng looked at the Sequence Number 16 in front of him, who was dressed in a Yanjing military uniform, and gave him a look.

Sequence Number 16 first saluted Lin Haifeng, then promptly chose to surrender.

The outcome was decided, and Lin Haifeng didn’t even lift a finger to secure the Sequence Number 16 position, which was temporarily sufficient before the final battle began.

Just after being teleported out of the Challenge Space, Lin Haifeng picked up the information board on the table, watching the constantly changing sequences. Before three seconds passed, a notification sound suddenly rang in his ears.

”Professionist Katou Asahi has challenged you. Countdown 3, 2, 1...”

”Hey...”

Lin Haifeng sighed softly, realizing he had forgotten just how challenging it was to seize a sequence title now—those challengers outside were like mad dogs, relentlessly attacking any sequence they could. With ten thousand people, each having three chances to challenge, it equaled thirty thousand battles, averaging over three hundred per sequence.

For Lin Haifeng, the difficulty wasn’t significant, just quite troublesome.

As the teleportation light flashed, Lin Haifeng found himself back in Challenge Space 16 in an instant. Before he could carefully observe his opponent, a wild laughter suddenly erupted from up ahead.

”Oh ho ho ho, it’s really you, Commander Lin.”

The grating laughter made Lin Haifeng deeply furrow his brow. He lifted his gaze only to see the Japanese expert named Katou Asahi, bare-footed in wooden clogs and wielding a katana, staring intently at him, eyes filled with murderous intent and mockery, as if ready to tear Lin Haifeng apart alive.

”I was just keeping an eye on the sequence rankings, not expecting to see Commander Lin’s name at Sequence Number 16.”

Katou Asahi spoke easily, as if the battle’s outcome was already certain.

”Instead of being a good luck charm, you dare to engage in the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle! Today, I, Japan’s strongest, Katou Asahi, will let you understand what it really means to...”

”Crunch~~~”

The crisp sound of bone cracking followed by a series of sound explosion clouds—all it took was Lin Haifeng zooming up to Katou Asahi, twisting his neck as he went.

This series of attack actions left Katou Asahi completely unable to react.

With Katou Asahi’s neck injured, his protective mechanism quietly activated. In just one round, the result was clear. As the power of teleportation flashed once more, Lin Haifeng’s eyes caught a glimpse of Katou Asahi, and his heart began to murmur.

”Maybe I really should strengthen control over other super gathering places...”

...

”Unforgivable!”

Katou Asahi, bewildered by his failed challenge, immediately burst into curses. The hodgepodge of sounds in his ears irritated Akad, but fortunately, the challenger delivery had arrived at his door. With a flash of teleportation light, in an instant, Akad found himself in Challenge Space 56.

This scene had already happened countless times, and Akad’s strength... was indeed overwhelming; being among the top ten sequences in strength, he didn’t have to worry when faced with challenges.

Yet, this time appeared to be different from previous battles...

”Akad?”

”It’s me.”

Standing before him was a young man in a robe, face cold, carrying an alloy longsword on his back. Akad lightly nodded, though inside, there rose a sense of imminent doom.

”Yanjing, Wang Yuwei, Vincent asked me to snipe you, the price...”

Before the words finished, fierce Sword Qi erupted! Wang Yuwei’s alloy longsword in hand split once into two, then four, multiplying infinitely, and within moments, sword shadows covered the sky!

”I’ll offer double!”

Akad quickly said. Damn, this fellow’s difficult to deal with, and who knows how many lives it would take to finish Wang Yuwei...

”Deal.”

The sword shadows vanished instantly, and then Wang Yuwei, with a cold indifference, said, ”He gave me 10,000 Level 6 magic crystals; you’ll pay me double, right? Transfer the money to me later.”

After speaking, Wang Yuwei neatly conceded, leaving Akad with a gentle sigh of relief.

Back years ago, the bounty order Yanjing had on Akad was revoked; now, the enmity between him and Vincent was purely personal... Moreover, judging from Wang Yuwei’s demeanor, Vincent didn’t seem well-liked in Yanjing either.

Thinking of Vincent, a cold glint suddenly flashed in Akad’s eyes.
