Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

In a hotel on the Star of Africa that had been invested in and founded by Yanjing, Lin Haifeng and Tang Haofei were sitting face to face, both looking extremely awkward.

Neither of them said a word. Tang Haofei was half-lying on the sofa staring at the ceiling, while Lin Haifeng sat in a chair sipping tea. On the surface everything looked harmonious, but the weird atmosphere between the two was so heavy that Fran, standing at the door, let out a huge sneeze...

”Uh... I’ll head out first, you two go ahead and talk...”

Fran really couldn’t stand the atmosphere in the room and decisively chose to flee. In an instant, only Lin Haifeng and Tang Haofei were left staring at each other again.

After a long moment, it was still Lin Haifeng who broke the silence first.

”So you’re Tang One?”

Tang Haofei nodded. ”I’ve said it how many times now, I really am Tang One. Sigh, old man, I only just realized that having a high IQ isn’t all good.”

That Lin Haifeng had a high IQ was indeed true. And having a high IQ meant he thought a lot; thinking a lot meant he was suspicious. Under normal circumstances, being suspicious wasn’t a bad thing—only by considering every angle would you avoid mistakes. But in the current situation, his suspicion instead became an obstacle to communication.

In other words, Lin Haifeng didn’t really believe the ”I am Tang One” coming out of Tang Haofei’s mouth...

And in fact, if it weren’t for the non-aggression restriction currently in place on the Star of Africa, there was no way Lin Haifeng would be sitting in the same room with Tang Haofei.

The old man frowned and pondered for quite a while, then still shook his head.

”Let’s not talk about that for now. We’ll just assume you’re Tang One.”

”I really am Tang One! Tang Haofei!”

Lin Haifeng waved his hand. ”Alright, I said we’re dropping that topic for now. Let’s switch to something else. Just now you said that after you left Yanjing you met Earth’s will. Mm, you only said Earth’s will has a problem, and that it wants to go after Wen Yu... I want to know the concrete details and the reasons behind this.”

Tang Haofei fell silent, then shook his head. ”I can’t tell you that. It involves some, mm, intel you’re not supposed to know.”

Tang Haofei wasn’t actually stupid. Him swaggering around the Star of Africa earlier was indeed an attempt to fish out Wen Yu or Lin Haifeng so he could discuss the intel he’d dug up. But priority number one was Wen Yu—the common ground between Tang Haofei and Wen Yu was enough for the two of them to talk about anything. Lin Haifeng was only second in line—there were some things Lin Haifeng shouldn’t know, especially when it came to Wen Yu being the Demon Lord’s Rebirth. To put it bluntly, Tang Haofei now understood the dilemma Wen Yu was facing and the deadly calamity about to hit him. Even though right now only the Demigod group knew about this, that was already bad enough. If Lin Haifeng got a hold of this leverage on Wen Yu, the consequences would be unimaginable!

Thinking of the Illusion he had gotten from Earth’s will, Tang Haofei even suspected that it might be precisely because of this that Earth’s will forced Wen Yu into rebellion, making Wen Yu defect to the Demon Tribe in a fit of rage and ultimately personally destroy Earth.

Given Wen Yu’s personality, that possibility was pretty damn high...

So to avoid that tragedy, mm, Tang Haofei felt he had to help Wen Yu keep this thing secret. Even if, in essence, there wasn’t much Tang Haofei could actually do in this matter, Old Tang could at least keep his mouth shut.

Hearing Tang Haofei’s answer, Lin Haifeng’s brows furrowed even tighter. His smart brain instantly associated this with some very unpleasant possibilities.

As the nominal highest leader of the Human Race, holding all power over the Yanjing Assembly Site, yet now... apparently... he didn’t seem qualified to access this kind of information?

Although Tang Haofei didn’t say that outright, from his expression and tone Lin Haifeng had already heard the unspoken meaning—this is something you, old man, are not qualified to get involved in...

Fine, Lin Haifeng couldn’t think of anything he wouldn’t be qualified to be involved in. After all, strength is strength, influence is influence. Strictly speaking the two don’t conflict, nor is one inherently above the other; they can even complement each other. Lin Haifeng had always placed himself on the same level as Wen Yu and Tang Haofei, and in fact Wen Yu and Tang Haofei had also placed Lin Haifeng at the same level.

And now you two just kick me out of the game like this?

The hell, are you planning to team up against me? I’m really lacking in sense of security here, alright...

This had nothing to do with IQ anymore... No matter how much he racked his brains, Lin Haifeng couldn’t possibly guess there’d be something like a reborner.

So Lin Haifeng and Tang Haofei just fell into silence like that, until a knock sounded at the door and Wen Yu pushed it open and walked in.

”Hi, my brother, long time no see.”

Seeing Wen Yu in a black trench coat, Tang Haofei greeted him with a beaming smile. That bright grin was like they had gone back to the days when the two of them had fought side by side in the Heavenly Palace. Mm, as a warrior, instinct always moves faster than the brain, so Wen Yu reacted immediately—the guy in front of him really was Tang One, the brother he hadn’t seen in ages!

So Wen Yu took two quick steps forward and gave Old Tang a big hug.

”Welcome back, my brother!”

At the same time, Wen Yu was secretly cheering in his heart...

This Sequence Member-Ranking Battle is in the bag!

...

When Kasu took Tang Haofei away, almost at the same moment the news that Tang Haofei had appeared on the Star of Africa reached Wen Yu’s ears.

That was already because most of the Soul Puppets hadn’t seen Tang Haofei before; otherwise Wen Yu should’ve received the news even earlier. But this timing still wasn’t bad. Wen Yu had just finished devouring a Corpse Fruit when he immediately rushed to the Star of Africa, planning to have a face-to-face with Tang Haofei—at the very least, he needed to gauge Tang Haofei’s condition.

The reality couldn’t have been more perfect...

Before he even entered the room, Wen Yu had already sensed Tang Haofei’s current physical condition—it hadn’t changed at all from before he went into his slumber. That meant that with just Faceless, a single soul pet, Wen Yu could fight him to a draw. Add in that the aura fluctuation on Tang Haofei’s body was different from Tang Two’s, and Wen Yu immediately realized that the difficulty of competing for the Sequence Number 1 title had dropped straight down, all the way to easy mode.

This really couldn’t be better.

So Wen Yu naturally gave Tang Haofei a big hug and called him brother. Mm, brother, I’ll just go ahead and accept this Sequence Number 1 title and its rewards...

After punching a big, shiny ”brother card,” Wen Yu casually sat down on the bed. He glanced at the deep-in-thought Lin Haifeng and the grinning Tang Haofei, but had no idea what to talk about with these two...

With Lin Haifeng there was something to discuss—the main topic being how to deal with Tang Haofei...

But with Tang Haofei, there really wasn’t much to say... Wen Yu couldn’t exactly ask him if he wanted to sleep another ten or twenty years, right?

Mm, and he couldn’t ask about other things either—Lin Haifeng was sitting right there, and some stuff needed to be kept under wraps.

Fortunately, it was Tang Haofei who took the initiative to bring up a topic...
