Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 481: Chapter 76: The Demon Lord’s Order! (Makeup update for leave on July 3)_1

Marcus moved very quickly.

In no time, he had arrived at the nearest Demon Realm’s Gate from Las Vegas.

Ignoring the flattery of the commander of the Demon Realm’s Gate and the hordes of Demon Fiends endlessly gushing out, Marcus strode directly into the Demon Realm’s Gate!

「...」

The sky in the Demon Realm was always gray-black! Horrifying crevices riddled the sky, making it seem as if it was about to shatter.

As an Ancient Demon spawn, Marcus naturally felt the deep gloom hidden beneath the Demon Realm.

The Demon Realm... it’s on its last legs... Now, it can barely survive only by relying on the Origin Energy from other worlds...

Thinking of this, Marcus sighed softly, ignored the reverential stances and gazes of the surrounding Demon Army, and instantly initiated Instantaneous Movement, flying quickly in one direction.

In a short while, Marcus had arrived at his destination.

「...」

Under the gray-black sky, two figures were quietly waiting for Marcus’s arrival.

One was a seated Ancient Demon spawn, and the other was a peculiar, three-meter-tall demon spawn, entirely dark red, lying on the ground. However, the large hole in its head told everyone that this prone demon spawn was already a corpse.

”You’re back, Marcus. How did the mission go?”

Marcus said nothing more, just nodded slightly. ”The mission was successful. Argus has activated the Soul Battlefield against Sequence Number 2.”

”That’s good!”

The Ancient Demon spawn nodded slightly, pointed at the demon spawn corpse on the ground, and spoke again, ”After you eradicate this Hunting Group of Sequence Number 4, this mission will be considered completely successful!”

Hearing the words of the Ancient Demon spawn, Marcus opened his mouth slightly, and after a long pause, voiced his doubt.

”This mission is so strange... Sequence Number 2 is a Soul Master and is also Soul-Armored. Argus should not be a match for Sequence Number 2 in the Soul Battlefield! Plus, with the Soul Shattering Mirror... why give the Soul Battlefield ability to Sequence Number 2? The Soul Battlefield ability would be a good choice for you or Lian, not to mention higher-level demon spawns of our tribe.”

The Ancient Demon spawn gently shook his head after hearing this.

After a long time, he finally said, ”It’s a direct order from the Demon Palace... no, the Demon Lord. In fact, I don’t know what the Demon Lord is thinking either...”

The Ancient Demon spawn pondered for a moment, then a wisp of black flame ignited in his hand.

The black flames seemed to possess life, directly igniting the body of the dead demon spawn beside it, instantly reducing it to a pile of flying ash!

”Let’s go, return to the Demon Palace to report. Also...”

”Lian is dead, killed by Sequence Number 1! The news just came back: three out of five in Sequence Number 1’s Hunting Group have died, and the remaining two are still being hunted...”

Hearing the Ancient Demon spawn’s words, Marcus’s eyes immediately darkened.

”Ray, what do you think the Demon Lord is thinking? This hunt against Sequence Number 1 and Sequence Number 2... why does it give me such a weird feeling?”

”There’s never been anything like this in previous hunts. Not to mention handing over the Soul Battlefield to Sequence Number 2 for free, but the strength of Sequence Number 1’s Hunting Group is simply insufficient. Except for Lian, the other four were just making up the numbers...”

SMACK.

A grotesque arm slapped Marcus’s shoulder forcefully.

Ray said in a low voice to Marcus, ”Don’t think too much about it; the Demon Lord has his own thoughts. The will of our ancestors is not something we can fathom. I have a suggestion for you: just do your own thing!”

After saying this, Ray immediately took out something that looked like a Token and crushed it!

Black Light rushed out from within the Token, enveloping Marcus and Ray. The next second, the two demon spawns vanished!

「...」

When the teleportation Black Light flashed and faded, Ray and Marcus appeared in an unknown region.

The entire space was enveloped by a pure black light curtain. Before them stood a magnificent hall.

Taking a shallow breath, Marcus felt a stream of pure Demonic Qi pour into his body from the air, and even his own strength increased slightly.

Not lingering for too long, Ray gently tugged Marcus’s wrist and ran straight towards the hall with him.

There lay the spiritual pillar of the Demon Realm, the seat of the Demon Lord, the eternal center of the Demon Realm—the Demon Palace!

「...」

Before the Demon Palace, two hideously shaped demon spawns verified Marcus’s and Ray’s identities, then opened the grand doors for them.

Inside, it was pitch black. As Ray and Marcus stepped into the Demon Palace, RUMBLE, the doors slammed shut heavily behind them.

Ray and Marcus knelt respectfully, awaiting the descent of the Demon Lord’s will.

After a long while, two crimson lights flashed from ahead, and a majestic, powerful voice resonated in their minds.

”Is the mission complete?”

”Yes, Lord Demon Lord!”

”Hm...”

The Demon Lord hummed softly, seeming to ponder for a long time before finally speaking.

”I want to assign you two another task. Just like last time, no living creature must know the content of this task...”

”We will follow Lord Demon Lord’s instructions!”

「...」

After a long while, when Marcus and Ray emerged from the Demon Palace, a hint of horror was etched on both their faces.

The Demon Lord’s task had completely baffled the two demon spawns!

After teleporting back to the Demon Realm through a teleportation array formation, Marcus and Ray quickly found a Demon Realm’s Gate and walked straight through.

Outside, countless soldiers of the Demon Army were lined up, ready for battle. A massive sea of Star Devouring Demons transported Fusion Monsters towards a distant megacity, while from that same megacity, a multitude of missiles rained down upon the Demon Tribe Army. This maelstrom unfolded over Cathay’s largest assembly site, Yanjing, while high above, blotting out the sun, floated the Eternal Sky City!

「...」

”My lords!”

The commander before the Demon Realm’s Gate greeted the two demon spawns with utmost respect.

Ray nodded and pulled Marcus along, running swiftly into the distance.

After a while, when the two demon spawns had reached an isolated area, they finally stopped.

”Begin,” Ray said to a puzzled Marcus.

”But... this task...” Marcus faltered.

”Ah...” Ray heaved a sigh before looking at Marcus somewhat sternly.

”There are no ’buts’; the Demon Lord’s order must be carried out! Remember your identity!”

After Ray finished speaking, he drew a smooth, pure-black medicinal pill from his waist and promptly popped it into his mouth.

「...」

CRACKLE, CRACKLE...

Explosive sounds erupted from Ray’s body. Under the sheer agony, Ray let out a roar reminiscent of a wild beast!

Not far away, Marcus watched, eyes full of horror, as Ray’s body underwent its transformation!

Two of his four arms gradually receded, slowly disappearing into his body. His black Scale Armor and sharp claws contracted and vanished within. The black crystal on his head gradually crumbled, turning into wisps of black smoke that slowly dissipated.

In less than three minutes, Ray, once an Ancient Demon spawn, had disappeared. In his place stood a naked Asian man.

Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, Ray slowly took in the changes in his body. His physical strength had dropped a little, but not much. His skills remained intact; his overall combat capabilities would not differ greatly.

”Your turn.”

After briefly familiarizing himself with the changes in his body, Ray turned to Marcus, his face stern.

Marcus clenched his teeth and consumed a similar black medicinal pill.

「...」

A few minutes later, when Marcus had finished his transformation, the two demon spawns—no, the two humans—nodded at each other.

”Mission objective: infiltrate the vicinity of Sequence Number 1 and Earth’s highest commander, Lin Haifeng, and then...”

”Protect them! Until the Demon Lord issues new orders!”

”Which implies...”

Ray gave Marcus—who now had golden hair and green eyes—a solemn look.

”From this moment on, we are humans!”

”Understood...” Marcus acknowledged, still in a daze.

Seeing Marcus’s expression, Ray shook his head slightly. This guy, who’s like a younger brother to me, still hasn’t grasped how much the situation has changed!

From the moment the Demon Lord issued this order, the two of them had broken away from their Demon Tribe identities! Although Ray didn’t know the Demon Lord’s intentions, completing the task was all the two of them could do, and it was something they absolutely had to do.

Gently patting Marcus’s shoulder, Ray said slowly, ”Let’s go. Use your abilities to blend into the Yanjing Assembly Site first.”

”And! I’ll remind you one last time!”

Ray looked at the slightly dazed Marcus with a completely serious expression and said with certainty, ”We are no longer Ancient Demons. We are not demon spawns. We are humans!”

”Discard all past beliefs, pride, and cognition! Abandon all allegiance to the Demon Tribe!”

”From now on, the Demon Tribe is our enemy!!!”

「...」

Meanwhile, in the Soul Battlefield, Wen Yu’s standoff with Argus continued!

Yes, it was a standoff!

Immediately after Wen Yu summoned Palpitation and Mad Medley, he had launched a furious barrage of attacks against Argus!

But Argus, as a top warrior among the Hunting Group, wasn’t easy to deal with either.

Fighting through the intense pain in his body, Argus moved swiftly, barely avoiding Wen Yu’s attacks!

In the Soul Battlefield, Soul Strikes were absolutely unbearable. There, the effect of a Soul Strike was magnified infinitely, and a simple kick had nearly ended Argus’s life moments before!

Yet Wen Yu, despite having the upper hand in skills and equipment, dared not act rashly.

Argus’s reaction speed allowed him to barely evade Wen Yu’s bullets from a distance!

This was a deadly game between a Berserker and an Archer—if Argus got close, Wen Yu would definitely be in dire straits!

Argus’s physical capabilities were significantly superior to Wen Yu’s. To avoid being closed in on, Wen Yu had to expend a great deal of energy to guard against Argus’s charge!
