Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 472: Chapter 72 Star Devouring Demon! Siege!_1

At the Demon Realm’s Gate.

An Ancient Demon spawn with four arms and wings stepped out from the Demon Realm’s Gate. A flash of silver light then radiated from its body as it teleported next to Argus.

Its deep, unflustered gaze scanned the area before resting on Argus and the Giant Beast. A hint of an indescribable grin formed on its large, jagged-toothed jaw.

”Sequence-class Hunting Group Number 4 in position. Argus, long time no see...”

”Marcus, you’re late...”

Argus, who rarely smiled, greeted the Ancient Demon spawn named Marcus with a hint of enjoyment.

”I’m not that late; I got held up...”

”Hm, no matter. It’s good to see you’re here. I didn’t expect you to be part of the Number 4 hunting group!”

Marcus replied calmly, ”I haven’t been active for a while. I just came out to stretch my muscles!”

Argus added with a slight smirk, ”Didn’t you just return from that... that outpost treasure land mission? I heard you had quite a success.”

Recalling something amusing, Marcus smiled at Argus. ”Indeed, it was a great time. I killed two top-ten experts of the Human Race Sequence... and even traded blows with Sequence Number 3.”

”Oh?” Argus raised an eyebrow. ”How strong is Sequence Number 3?”

”Just so-so.” Marcus curled his lip and then turned his slightly eerie glance towards Argus. ”The so-called powerful experts in this world are lacking. I think this hunting mission should be quite simple...”

Witnessing the mysterious smile on Marcus’s face, Argus had a gut feeling something wasn’t right. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it. After a moment, he discarded his doubt and turned to the pair of demon spawn beside him, saying, ”Let’s go.”

Marcus deliberately fell a step behind Argus. A strange gleam flitted across his eyes, and then he followed closely, sprinting towards the Red Stone Grand Canyon!

Marcus, the Ancient Demon spawn that Wen Yu encountered in the outpost treasure land, had not revealed any information about Wen Yu from beginning to end...

It went without saying that the pace of a Peak Level 5 Ancient Demon spawn was swift. With the speed of the three demon spawns, they could reach Wen Yu and Qin Tian’s location in under a minute.

However, before they reached the edge of the Red Stone Grand Canyon, Argus abruptly halted, directly blocking the path of the two demon spawns behind him.

”Wait here for a bit!”

The Giant Beast, somewhat fearful of Argus and the weakest among the three, naturally obeyed Argus without question.

Marcus, however, looked puzzled. ”The targets are within sight. Why are you...?”

Hearing Marcus’s query, Argus responded with a slight smile, ”We’re ambushing them here... If I’m not wrong, Sequence Number 2 and Sequence Number 4 should be linked to the nearby rendezvous point. When the vanguard launches their attack on the gathering place, we’ll strike when Number 2 and Number 4 attempt to provide reinforcement. You know I’m not the strongest in direct combat, but when it comes to assassination, I’m second to none among Level 5 Demon Seeds!”

After listening to Argus’s explanation, Marcus nodded. He had to admit, assassination was more appealing than a straightforward kill, as long as it increased the mission’s success rate. The method didn’t matter! Besides, in a racial war, there was no such thing as fair competition or chivalry. Any lethal method was a good one!

However, the Giant Beast was a little slow on the uptake. ”But, wasn’t the Demon Palace’s order...”

”Indeed, it’s to kill members of the Human Race Sequence, but the method wasn’t specified,” Argus said. ”If the plan fails and Number 2 and Number 4 aren’t lured over, we can still launch a direct assault. That’s not an issue! We can take down Number 2 and Number 4 here, then pick off the three Sequence members in the gathering place, and after that...”

Argus glanced at the two behind him, a flash of fanaticism crossing his eyes. ”Then, we can hunt on our own! Whether it’s divine beast lineage creatures or Sequence members, as long as we kill one, the rewards from the Demon Palace will definitely elevate our power to the next level!”

After a moment, the Giant Beast finally understood and nodded, a ferocious grin spreading across its face. ”When that time comes, I’ll eat more of those creatures called humans! Judging by their looks, they must taste good!”

Perhaps imagining this wonderful future, the Giant Beast licked its lips and chuckled foolishly.

Marcus unexpectedly interjected, ”Actually, we could head directly to the gathering place... It might seem a bit against the Demon Palace’s orders, but the result would undoubtedly be better!”

Argus shook his head. ”No. You should have a general understanding of my abilities. I can only exert my full power when the enemy is exposed and I am hidden. If they are hidden while I’m in the open, I could be ambushed and killed easily! Our first priority is to hunt the Sequence members; our second is to stay alive. As for those ordinary professionists, what benefit would killing them bring us? Directly destroying that gathering place isn’t a viable tactic.”

Marcus nodded slightly, seemingly approving Argus’s plan, but what he truly thought, perhaps only Heaven knew.

Unbeknownst to Wen Yu and Qin Tian, the Sequence-class Hunting Group was already set for an ambush; they just remained where they were, making preparations for the upcoming battle.
