Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 470: Chapter 71: Hunting Group_1

In the Red Stone Grand Canyon!

Wen Yu and Qin Tian were acutely aware of the ”CREAK” they had just heard and the subsequent, abrupt change in the concentration of Demonic Qi in the atmosphere.

As the Demonic Qi concentration grew denser, Qin Tian’s expression kept changing.

Wen Yu laughed and reassured Qin Tian, ”Worried about your sister? Don’t worry. Victor, Arthur, and Wang Fucai are all in Las Vegas. I promise you, considering the current size and population of Las Vegas, they can easily weather this demon plague.”

Seeing that Qin Tian’s expression still hadn’t changed, Wen Yu understood—this was undoubtedly due to his prolonged solitude, constantly without companions, making him prone to distrusting others.

The old Wen Yu had been the same.

When did that change?

Perhaps it was when Sun Ruixing died, Wen Yu thought.

Patting Qin Tian’s shoulder, Wen Yu said in a serious tone, ”Right now, we both have the Hunting Group to deal with! If we don’t exterminate the Hunting Group, we’re like a jinx! Can you imagine it? For instance, if you and Walter were fighting fiercely in Las Vegas, do you think your sister could survive in that kind of situation?”

At these words, Qin Tian’s expression finally relaxed slightly. It had to be said that for people like Wen Yu and Qin Tian, reasoning didn’t work; you had to present them with cold, hard facts!

Listening to the roars of the mutant beasts and the familiar cries of the Soot Skin Demon Fiends coming from the direction of Las Vegas, Wen Yu quietly doubted the words he had just spoken...

In reality, the size of a settlement and the number of assaulting Demon Fiends were not absolutely linked. It didn’t mean that the larger the settlement, the more attacks it would face. It all depended on the Demon Tribe’s strategy and tactics, as well as the mood of the Demon Fiends!

And now, was Las Vegas really safe?

「...」

The Demon Tribe, having fought against Dominator across countless worlds, far surpassed humans in terms of tactics and strategy.

Although the Demon Tribe was currently sending countless Demon Fiends to the battlefield near the Demon Realm’s Gate, seemingly marching them to their deaths, the truth was that the Demon Tribe didn’t care about the demise of this cannon fodder. For the Demon Tribe, trading one hundred Demon Fiends for a single mutant beast of equal power signified a strategic victory! Moreover, it was foreseeable that the operation to blockade the gate wouldn’t last long.

However, some places were different. These locations either had sparse populations of mutant creatures (primarily because they were Human Race settlements) or were controlled by more powerful divine beasts, forcing them into a passive defensive posture in certain areas—Las Vegas, for instance. This couldn’t be called a tactical error. After all, relying on the strength of their walls and fixed defensive equipment did provide certain advantages. The behavior of the mutant beasts also wasn’t mindless. When the Demon Realm’s Gate initially opened, they could indeed gain some benefits through ambushes and numerical superiority. It was purely a matter of choosing between short-term gains and long-term development. Naturally, each choice had its downsides.

While the actions of the mutant beasts could catch the Demon Tribe off-guard, their defensive lines would immediately collapse once the Demon Fiends broke through. On battlefields with traditional weaponry, the majority of deaths didn’t result from direct conflict but from one-sided slaughters during routs.

The actions of settlements like Las Vegas, however, risked facing large-scale, organized assaults from Demon Fiends. If they managed to hold their ground, all would be well; but if they failed, all would be lost.

「...」

There were ten Demon Realm’s Gates around Las Vegas that put the city within attack range. Two of them, a little further away, had been encircled and blocked by mutant beasts. The remaining eight Demon Realm’s Gates, however, were unguarded because all the mutant beasts within this range had been summoned by Victor to the vicinity of Las Vegas. This also meant that these eight Demon Realm’s Gates could launch attacks on the Las Vegas Assembly Site without any hindrance.

「...」

Countless Demon Fiends surged from the eight Demon Realm’s Gates near Las Vegas. The vanguard was naturally one of the slave races within the Demon Tribe—the Soot Skin Demon Fiends. This race had a unique characteristic: they were easy to sustain. They could eat anything; even without food, they could automatically enter a dormant state to preserve their lives. Now, the Soot Skin Demon Fiends had assumed an even more important role: extermination!

The so-called extermination meant devouring every visible living organism—including insects and plants. It was important to remember that these seemingly insignificant creatures, often overlooked by humans, could also mutate. Perhaps one could even produce a divine beast? Who knew.

Of course, a more significant reason was the mass slaughter of Earth’s organisms. This was intended to weaken Earth’s planetary will and break the Level Lock in the shortest possible time.

At this moment, hordes of Soot Skin Demon Fiends devoured every bit of vegetation in the already sparsely vegetated Las Vegas region. To this overwhelming tide of Soot Skin Demon Fiends, such meager greenery was merely an appetizer.

Just as the Demon Group was about to move further afield, a gentle Spiritual Fluctuation suddenly pulsed out, ”Children, gather to me...”
