Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Accompanied by the buzzing discussions.

The attention on the archery competition was far lower than the attention on Chen Wen.

Chen Wen also had some doubts in his heart.

What’s going on?

If familiar people or enemies are looking at me, that’s fine.

But why are even strangers looking at me?

He thought for a moment, trying to maintain a calm expression.

At this moment, Hua Yun returned with the bow and arrow.

”Mission accomplished, ninety rings.”

Hua Yun put away the bow and arrow proudly.

Chen Wen nodded, ”Impressive, well done!”

Soon, as the reports came in, the contestants finished shooting their arrows one after another.

Out of the nine contestants, three scored ninety rings, the others scored slightly lower.

”Very good, let’s start the second event, fire-making.”

The vice president stepped forward and said, ”Using the materials we provide for fire-making by drilling wood, the ranking is based on speed. The faster, the better.”

Chen Wen glanced at Xu Qiang for this challenge.

Xu Qiang slightly moved his body and stepped out of the team, ”Leave it to me!”

As a veteran of the Hua Country Survival Association, Xu Qiang is very skilled at fire-making by drilling wood.

He has been filming survival videos domestically for years, with fire-making being his forte.

There, accompanied by the vice president’s command.

Everyone immediately tied the rope to the bow drill and hastily began making fire.

Xu Qiang did the same.

As the contestants vigorously pulled the bow drill, someone hastily picked up the tinder to start blowing on it.

But they were too impatient.

The gathered sparks were far from enough to ignite the tinder.

Accompanied by sounds of frustration, several contestants had to gather sparks again.

Those with experience patiently accumulated enough sparks before picking up the tinder.

With a gentle blow from everyone, several flames appeared one after another.

The results of the second round of the competition were revealed.

Xu Qiang’s speed was slightly slower, temporarily ranking third.

”I didn’t perform well, my bad.”

Xu Qiang was a bit frustrated.

The contestants who failed due to impatience had also thrown him off his game.

When gathering sparks, he accumulated too many.

Although the speed of igniting the firewood was fast, he lost the opportunity and could only rank third.

Chen Wen did not criticize, just comforted, ”No big deal.”

After speaking, Chen Wen looked at the current rankings.

The Japan team and the United States team were tied for first.

The Australia team and the Hua Country team were tied for third.

The situation wasn’t good.

Chen Wen frowned slightly because when the Japan team and United States team were talking, he had captured all their words using his enhanced hearing skill.

If these people set off first, if they collaborated to ambush at the starting point.

Although Chen Wen was not afraid, it would be troublesome.

Therefore, the third round must be secured!

”Very good, let’s start the third event, setting traps!”

The vice president stepped forward again, saying, ”Using the materials we provide, set a trap to capture small animals, based on speed and effectiveness!”

”Speed is self-explanatory, as for effectiveness...”

The vice president clapped his hands, and the staff brought out small boxes with white mice inside: ”The effectiveness test is to see whose trap can capture the mouse the fastest! The staff will drive the mouse by knocking the box three times, and it’s a failure if the mouse doesn’t enter the trap after three tries.”

This task was originally for Feng Zhong.

But considering the situation with the Japan team and the United States team, and Feng Zhong frequently contacting the Japan team these days.

Chen Wen decisively made Feng Zhong stand down.

”Mr. Feng, take a break first.”

Chen Wen smiled at Feng Zhong, stopping him.

Then Chen Wen said, ”I’ll handle this round.”

Feng Zhong’s expression shifted slightly, but he didn’t say much, as this wasn’t the time to fall out.

Chen Wen came to the open space to set the trap, his mind quickly spinning.

Very quickly.

He came up with an idea.

...

”The competition begins!”

With the command from the vice president.

Chen Wen immediately knelt on the ground, inserting a stick into the ground while quickly creating a trigger with a rope.

The trap he set was a very common pressure trigger trap.

Tightening the rope, one end tied in a knot on the ground, fixed with a thin stick, and the other end tied to a bent long stick.

As Chen Wen let go, his trap was completed.

Compared to other contestants’ traps, Chen Wen’s was noticeably simpler.

He didn’t even use dirt or anything to cover the trigger.

This puzzled the surrounding contestants, even the vice president was taken aback by Chen Wen’s trap.

What’s going on?

But Chen Wen had already signaled his completion.

At his urging, a staff member holding a box came over to Chen Wen and released the mouse in front of him and the trap.

Seeing this, the crowd began to murmur.

”What’s he doing?”

”He’s too hasty, though his speed is way ahead of others, the completeness of the trap is low!”

”Such an obvious trap, what animal would walk right into it like a fool?”

”Doesn’t this make Chen Wen’s skills seem average?”

”Maybe he’s too nervous?”

...

The crowd’s chatter didn’t reach Chen Wen’s ears.

He looked at the mouse and resolutely activated an ability called [Fruit Aroma].

[Fruit Aroma], being a negative trait, had a simple effect—it turned Chen Wen’s body odor into the scent of berries.

Moreover, any animal that liked berries, upon smelling this scent, would become extremely aggressive towards Chen Wen!

Of course, intelligent creatures were less affected.

This was Chen Wen’s reason for not covering the trap.

He used [Fruit Aroma] as bait to attract the mouse!

This mouse was certainly not an intelligent creature.

Thus, once the staff released it on the ground and Chen Wen activated [Fruit Aroma].

It was immediately attracted by Chen Wen’s scent!

Accompanied by a sharp squeal, the mouse charged straight at Chen Wen!

It didn’t even pay attention to its surroundings.

With Chen Wen slightly shifting his position, the mouse targeted the trigger and ran right into it.

Snap!

The thin stick was knocked away by the mouse, the trigger activated, and the bent stick sprang tight.

As the stick tightened, the rope loop also rapidly tightened.

The mouse that just entered the loop was immediately caught and hung in mid-air.

Chen Wen quickly deactivated [Fruit Aroma].

At this moment, silence fell over the scene.

No way?

What just happened?

Was there something wrong with the mouse?

Why did it run straight into the trap right after being released?!

Everyone was dumbfounded.

Even the staff was surprised, as he hadn’t even driven the mouse!

Next to Chen Wen, Yoshikawa Feng paused in surprise with his own trap.

As a master trapper, he was highly knowledgeable about traps.

Upon glimpsing Chen Wen’s trap, he nearly burst out laughing.

With this kind of trap, it’s not even worth trying for a mouse.

Even if you put a whole group, they wouldn’t fall for it!

Yoshikawa Feng thought as much.

Yet what he couldn’t foresee was that the mouse actually fell into the trap on its own!

”Is it done?”

Chen Wen broke the silence, looking at the vice president and asked with a smile.

The vice president didn’t immediately respond.

He approached the mouse, carefully examining the situation.

Seeing the frightened but otherwise normal mouse.

The vice president shook his head, ”No problem, Chen Wen succeeded, in speed first and effectiveness as well.”

Upon hearing this, the crowd erupted again.

”Really worked? With such a simple trap?”

”Maybe it was just good luck, the mouse panicked and ran right into it.”

”Not necessarily, there might be reasons we don’t know about.”

”Bullshit! There’s no other reason, it’s just good luck!”

”Come on, anyone can gamble on luck, looks like he’s a luck-based competitor like Gaston.”

In the crowd, Gaston glared in the direction of the voice.

Who’s he calling a luck-based competitor?
