Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 998: Chapter 997: Everyone Needs to Grow Up

After this, Walnut and Katie quickly finalized the commission details and process, then took their leave. According to Walnut, she originally wanted to set off immediately, but Katie still had some unfinished business, so they agreed to depart early the next morning.

Then, Walnut took Fang Zheng and Kurumi back to the inn where they were staying and got a room for Fang Zheng.

”Well, Little Hong, you should rest early. If you need anything, you can always talk to me or Kurumi.”

After saying goodbye, Walnut cheerfully went back to her own room. It was only then that Fang Zheng stretched lazily and lay down on the bed.

”I really didn’t expect to run into someone I know...”

Murmuring to himself, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but smile wryly. It seemed like he had come at just the right time?

For a Prophet Mage, there are no coincidences in this world. If you happen to meet someone by chance, it means she was ”destined” to appear before you at this moment.

By the way, for a Prophet Mage, the meaning of ”destined” is not as romantic as ordinary people think.

In other words, if Fang Zheng had not appeared here, Katie might not have made this commission, or even if she did, Walnut might not have accepted it. But because of Fang Zheng’s appearance, the result of this variable equation was fixed, so the process itself didn’t matter anymore.

This is the line of fate, invisible and intangible, yet omnipresent, constantly controlling your every move.

”Knock knock knock.”

Just at this time, suddenly there was a knock at the door. Hearing the knock, Fang Zheng was slightly startled.

”Who is it?”

”It’s me, oh... Little... Hong?”

”Kurumi, huh, come in.”

Hearing the voice outside trying to suppress laughter, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but roll his eyes. Of course, Kurumi knew about Fang Zheng’s transformation, after all, she was one of Fang Zheng’s most capable assistants, and Fang Zheng didn’t intend to hide it from her. However, others knowing that he could transform into a magical girl... well, it was somewhat embarrassing.

But just a little bit.

Hearing Fang Zheng’s response, Kurumi opened the door and walked in, closing it behind her. She glanced at Fang Zheng, lying lazily on the bed, and couldn’t help but smile slightly.

”What’s the matter, cute Little Hong? You seem very tired...”

”Spare me, I just feel a bit mentally exhausted.”

Facing Kurumi’s teasing, Fang Zheng rolled his eyes.

”Where’s Walnut?”

”She’s having dinner.”

”Speaking of which... has Walnut’s identity been exposed?”

Hearing Kurumi mention this, Fang Zheng immediately became worried about Walnut. Now, although Walnut seemed lively and energetic, she was still a zombie who needed to rely on blood to maintain her actions. Even though Fang Zheng supplied Walnut with plenty of blood bags, if she were found out... Although Walnut wasn’t technically an undead creature, it would undoubtedly still be problematic.

”No problem, don’t worry, Walnut is very careful in this regard, and even if found out, most people wouldn’t think in that direction.”

While answering Fang Zheng’s inquiry, Kurumi walked over to Fang Zheng and sat beside her, watching her.

”...Do you not trust us?”

”No, I’m just worried.”

”Worrying means not trusting.”

Kurumi reached out and gently placed her hand at Fang Zheng’s mouth, looking at her with a playful smile, yet there was a complex emotion in Kurumi’s eyes.

”Both Walnut and I are not kids anymore; we can take care of ourselves. Besides... if you ask me, this mission originally didn’t require you to go along, did it?”

”That’s true, but those lunatics from the Doomsday aren’t easy to deal with, and to be on the safe side, we should make some backup plans.”

”...However, these matters don’t require you to handle personally. As the ruler of Heavenly Dao Palace, you have many other important things to do, right? In such cases, you could entirely entrust these things to me and Walnut, and let us report back to you via the personal terminal. If something goes wrong, then act, isn’t that fine?”

”What exactly are you trying to say?”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng sat up and stared at Kurumi beside her. She wasn’t a fool; clearly, Kurumi wasn’t here for a casual chat.

”I’m talking about the development of the Heavenly Dao Palace moving forward, Mr. Fang Zheng.”

At this moment, Kurumi’s expression also turned serious.

”Have you ever wondered why this Doomsday Church’s plan makes you so uneasy that you need to stop it personally? It’s because our interaction with the outside world in the Heavenly Dao Palace is too little. This kind of situation I’ve experienced in my world too. You know, in my world, I personally killed ten thousand people. But besides these people, there are others who were not killed by me but were also blamed on us Elves. Do you know why? Because we Elves possess great power but do not communicate with humans, and humans do not trust us; therefore, to them, us doing anything would seem expected... Doesn’t that resemble the current Heavenly Dao Palace?”

”......”

”You’ve thwarted this plan, but sooner or later others will find ways to blame us, not just the cultists but those obese-in-the-head politicians, those fat-and-greedy merchants, even people who are unfriendly toward us—any of them could do so. Can we really ignore this?”

”So, you mean, our Heavenly Dao Palace should take the initiative to strike, right.”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng sighed.

”But we currently lack manpower.”

”No, Mr. Fang Zheng, we have enough manpower, but you just don’t want to use them.”

”Of course, I don’t.”

Fang Zheng raised an eyebrow, interrupting Kurumi’s words.

”You know what those children encountered in their worlds. To be honest, I brought them to the Heavenly Dao Palace to let them live a normal, danger-free, carefree life. Those children don’t need to be tempered; from birth, they have been living in a world akin to hell. Now they just need to enjoy their current lives. As for the chaos in the outside world, I don’t want them to worry about it.”

”I can understand your thoughts, but always sacrifices must be made...”

”I hate hearing that.”

Fang Zheng looked up again, staring at Kurumi.

”That’s just an excuse for those lacking power. Indeed, on an ordinary world, perhaps that’s true, but not in this world. If I wanted to, I could destroy a country in an afternoon. What must I sacrifice? And to stop my act of annihilation, perhaps this nation might send soldiers in waves to fight me; yet even if they sacrifice their lives and everything, can they even harm a hair on my head?”

Speaking here, Fang Zheng paused for a moment to sigh.

”Power, the disparity of power in this world is the most obvious. This is not that stable Earth. Here, as long as your fist is big, you have a say. Even the strongest will and determination of the weak mean nothing in the face of those who can obliterate a power, a country, a dimension with ease. Now, while personally taking action might waste a bit of my time, it reduces the level of danger to the minimum, and although it might be slightly troublesome for me, aren’t there no sacrifices at all?”

In fact, before this, Fang Zheng also considered integrating more into the Main World; otherwise, he wouldn’t have dispatched the fleet and those little girls to participate in the Northern Fortress war.

However, the sneak attack by the evil dragon had instantly scared Fang Zheng back into his shell. Indeed, after that, Fang Zheng never considered letting the little girls leave the Heavenly Dao Palace again.

Once being targeted by those cultists acting like madmen, who knows what might happen to them.

Although currently in the Heavenly Dao Palace, most of the Cursed Children were just names to Fang Zheng except for a few he was familiar with, he always regarded them as his daughters. And evidently, any father would not let his underage daughters face the perilous world outside.

Not to mention, these children had already suffered enough in their past.

”Then, you can choose someone else.”

However, Kurumi wasn’t discouraged and quickly responded.

”You already have so many worlds at your disposal, choosing a trusted team from them responsible for the Heavenly Dao Palace’s affairs in this world shouldn’t be a problem, right? I understand your concern, and compassion isn’t a flaw to be criticized, but... we must do something.”

”...After this mission is over, let me think it over.”

With a long sigh, Fang Zheng lay back down on the bed.

As Kurumi said, perhaps... he indeed needed to do something.
