Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 974: Chapter 973: Can This Company Still Be Saved?

”Asuna?”

Seeing the girl in front of him, Fang Zheng was also taken aback. What a coincidence today, meeting Yuna in the morning and now running into Asuna. Is the world really this small?

”Hello, Mr. Fang Zheng.”

Asuna greeted Fang Zheng with a bow, pleased.

”Long time no see.”

”It’s only been a little over half a month... Has your health improved?”

”Yes, after the doctor’s examination, I’m currently in the recovery phase and everything is okay now.”

Listening to the question and answer between Fang Zheng and his daughter, Yuki Shozo was also momentarily dazed on the side. Although he counted as a CEO, he could naturally tell that his daughter seemed very close and familiar with Fang Zheng, which made him very puzzled.

”You two... know each other?”

”Yes, Dad, Mr. Fang Zheng is the leader of our Dark Moon Sword Guild in the game.”

At this moment, Asuna immediately provided the answer. During this time at home, she felt quite restless. Although Asuna always wanted to talk to her loved ones about what happened in the game, her mother had no interest in that topic and even found it quite annoying, and her father, due to investment failures, didn’t want to hear anything about the Death Game. Her brother was also rarely home. In this situation, all Asuna could do was keep everything bottled up inside.

But now, she finally found an opportunity to talk openly about the game in front of her parents.

”This really is... unexpected.”

Upon hearing this, Yuki Shozo couldn’t help but look at Fang Zheng in surprise. Although he hadn’t interacted much with this young man, Yuki Shozo could also see that Fang Zheng was a very capable and talented young man, and with his wealth, good looks, and impeccable manners, Yuki Shozo had hoped to introduce him to his daughter.

After all, as a member of the Yuki Family, he also hoped Asuna could find a suitable match.

But what he didn’t expect was that these two had already known each other?

And it was through that detested Death Game?

Though it was a bit surprising, Yuki Shozo was quite pleased with this outcome. After all, he knew his daughter had no interest in arranged marriages. But now that there’s such a good opportunity, of course, it couldn’t be missed.

Soon, they sat down, and after Fang Zheng greeted Asuna, he started discussing with Yuki Shozo about RECT’s upcoming restructuring plan.

”My plan is to reform all RECT sales offices in the shortest time, from inside to outside, including completely changing the decor style. Also, those peripheral businesses need to be abandoned. I’ve already invited Professor Shigemura Takuo to join CC Corporation...”

Seeing Fang Zheng speak confidently in front of her father, Asuna couldn’t help but smile. She had been worried about whether there would be any problems with Fang Zheng’s conversation with her father. But now it seemed, Fang Zheng was Fang Zheng, even her father wasn’t a match for him.

Mr. Fang Zheng is truly amazing!

If Yuki Shozo knew what his daughter was thinking, he would surely shout, ”A grown daughter can’t be kept at home”...

After exchanging brief opinions, Yuki Shozo excused himself, leaving Asuna there alone. Watching her father leave, Asuna finally leaned back in her chair and breathed a sigh of relief.

”You seem to be under a lot of pressure?”

Fang Zheng smiled as he looked at Asuna, and the latter nodded shyly.

”Yes, Mr. Fang Zheng, you know... my father...”

Here, Asuna was clearly hesitant, but she sighed lightly and skipped the topic. Since Asuna didn’t bring it up, Fang Zheng naturally wouldn’t ask, as every family has their own difficulties, so he quickly changed the subject.

”By the way, should I call you Asuna or Asuna? I didn’t expect you’d actually use your true name as an ID.”

”Um... either works... And if you put it that way, Mr. Fang Zheng, you’re the same, aren’t you?”

”True enough... Speaking of which, Yuna is the same too.”

”Yuna?”

”Yeah.”

Facing Asuna’s curious inquiry, Fang Zheng nodded.

”Before I came here, I visited Professor Shigemura at Tokyo Industrial University. I didn’t expect to see Yuna there; she’s Professor Shigemura’s daughter, and her true name is Shigemura Yuna... Seems like it’s a habit for you all.”

”Really? You met Yuna, Mr. Fang Zheng?”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s news, Asuna perked up immediately.

”Of course, do you need me to give you her contact information?”

”Please, make sure to give it to me!”

Asuna was ecstatic. Since waking up, she had been alone in her room. Her relatives sympathized with her ordeal, but had no interest in the Death Game. Asuna had no one to confide in and was already quite stifled. Hearing that Fang Zheng had Yuna’s contact info made her excited.

Fang Zheng took out his phone, gave Asuna Yuna’s number, and re-exchanged his own number with Asuna. Afterward, they had a brief lunch together, and then...

”Mr. Fang Zheng, do you have any plans next?”

Technically, after lunch, Asuna was supposed to go home, but having met Fang Zheng, she was reluctant to leave. Moreover, this was a rare chance where coming home late wouldn’t warrant any parental nagging. Her parents knew she was out for a date today, and if she returned too soon, her mother might interpret it as her taking a non-cooperative stance, leading to more nagging. If possible, she’d prefer to spend more time with Fang Zheng.

”I’m going to EJ Corporation, want to come along?”

Fang Zheng had already made up his mind. In the morning, his schedule was to meet Professor Shigemura to discuss ARGUS’s research and transition plans. The lunch with Yuki Shozo was meant for tackling RECT’s restructuring, and for the afternoon, he planned to visit the game development company EagleJump to check on their current progress and decide on their next game development project.

”Absolutely!”

Having made the decision, they quickly set off. Fang Zheng drove swiftly and soon arrived at the address of EJ Corporation.

EJ Corporation was located in a six-story office building in the city center. The second, third, and fourth floors housed a company named ”Houbunsha,” while the fifth and sixth floors were EJ Corporation’s domain. When Fang Zheng and Asuna arrived, it was lunchtime, and the entire office building was quiet, with few people around.

They took the elevator and soon reached the fifth floor, where EJ Corporation was located. Fang Zheng took out his ID card from his pocket and swiped it. With a ”beep,” the door opened, and Fang Zheng and Asuna walked in.

Externally, this looked like a very ordinary small game development company. However, it seemed quite run-down now; many cubicles were empty, and even the office supplies had been removed. Some areas were quite messy, indicating that many people had chosen to leave.

”So this is where the game was developed.”

Looking at the promotional poster by the wall, Asuna felt a bit complicated. Although she knew that none of this was the production company’s fault, thinking about how they were almost really killed by the creatures the company created in the game...

Ah, all in all, it’s hard to explain...

”Seems like quite a few people have resigned.”

Fang Zheng was clearly not as sentimental as Asuna. He glanced around and noticed many empty cubicles, which made him frown. Before taking over the company, he had heard about the mass resignation at EJ Corporation, but now it seemed... it’s more troublesome than he thought.

Is there still hope for this company?

If there aren’t enough people, do I have to rely on myself to work overtime again?

”...I haven’t been a code monkey for years, I don’t love the cold desk edge. Don’t force me to recompile, don’t make me cry, I will turn against... hmm?”

While Fang Zheng was singing and observing, he suddenly sensed a gaze from the side, curiously examining him. He turned around and saw a figure hiding behind a partition, peeking at them. Seeing Fang Zheng turn his head towards them, the figure quickly shrank back in fright and then cautiously peeked out again after a moment.

”W-who... are you... and... what... do you... want?”
