Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 958: Chapter 957: The Quintessential Bride (I)

Half an hour later, when everyone gathered again, Fang Zheng noticed that the girls were looking at him in a rather peculiar way...

”Hmm? What’s up with you all?”

Seeing the strange expressions on the girls’ faces, Fang Zheng was also a bit confused, and upon hearing his question, the girls also showed embarrassed expressions. They looked at each other, and after a moment, Yuna stepped forward with a flushed face.

”Um... Mr. Fang Zheng...”

”Hmm? What’s the matter?”

Seeing Yuna’s flushed face, Fang Zheng was taken aback, and Yuna hesitated for a moment before lowering her head.

”I’m very sorry, Mr. Fang Zheng. Although I’m happy about your marriage proposal, um... I think we should start with dating first...”

”Wait, what are you talking about?”

Upon hearing this, Fang Zheng was completely stunned.

”When did I propose to you?”

”Huh?”

Faced with Fang Zheng’s question, Yuna was taken aback for a moment.

”Just now... didn’t you send me a marriage proposal?”

”Huh???”

Hearing Yuna’s response, Fang Zheng was completely dumbfounded, and at this moment, Mimel also raised her hand.

”Me too, me too, I also received your marriage proposal, Mr. Fang Zheng. To be honest, I was a little surprised that you would send me something like that...”

”Same here...”

”I received it too...”

At this point, almost all the girls began to speak, and hearing their words, Fang Zheng was dumbfounded.

”I didn’t send a marriage proposal to anyone!”

”But we definitely received it... just when the bell rang earlier...”

”Me too...”

”That was the time...”

As they spoke, everyone realized something. There are over a dozen girls here, and they are quite familiar with the system. If Fang Zheng wanted to propose, he would have to open each of their personal information screens from the friends list to propose. But unless Fang Zheng had a dozen hands, it’s impossible for him to open so many personal information screens and send proposals simultaneously.

Besides, as they understood Fang Zheng, he didn’t seem like someone who would do such a thing.

”Could it be a bug?”

Shinong raised her hand and asked, and Fang Zheng shook his head.

”I’m not sure either, but... could it be related to this task?”

”Task?”

”That’s right.”

While speaking, Fang Zheng opened his interface, set it to be visible to others, and then showed it to the girls. The girls saw a task displayed on it.

[Task: Rosalie’s Wish]

[Requirement: The bride Rosalie died before she could get married, and her tormented soul wanders in this world. Fulfill Rosalie’s wish so her soul can rest in peace]

This task was triggered when Fang Zheng touched the Holy Scripture earlier, but it only provided this single prompt at the time, leaving Fang Zheng clueless on how to proceed with the task. But he didn’t expect something like this to happen...

”Ah, I knew it!”

At this moment, Leafa suddenly shouted.

”I have a DEBUFF labeled ’Rosalie’s Vengeful Spirit’...”

”DEBUFF?”

The girls quickly opened their own character panels, and soon, a few more realized they also had the DEBUFF.

”What does this DEBUFF do?”

”Uhh... unable to use skills, can’t fight... ah, there’s this information here—Rosalie will randomly make three requests. Satisfy her wishes, and she’ll leave...”

”This is troublesome.”

Hearing Leafa’s response, Fang Zheng frowned. He didn’t expect a task to carry such restrictive conditions. It means that this so-called Rosalie’s Vengeful Spirit has attached itself to the girls, and random tasks may appear. Fang Zheng might need to complete those tasks to lift the DEBUFF.

And this DEBUFF is indeed troublesome. If they can’t use skills, they won’t be able to progress further, so it has to be resolved quickly.

But wait... why do some have the DEBUFF, and some don’t?

”Who hasn’t been possessed by the vengeful spirit?”

Thinking of this, Fang Zheng quickly asked, and a few girls raised their hands, including Yuna.

”...Okay, I think I understand the reason.”

Glancing at Yuna who raised her hand, and then at Eiriri, who didn’t raise her hand but was looking at him eagerly, Fang Zheng understood how the vengeful spirit chose its hosts—it seems only those who confirmed the marriage proposal were possessed by Rosalie’s vengeful spirit...

But, why is that?

To solve this question, Fang Zheng didn’t find it difficult.

”Because it’s determined by the level of affection towards you, Dad.”

Back at the base, Fang Zheng quickly called Yui over, and after a brief search, Yui immediately provided the answer.

”I was once the MHCP, so you know, Dad, that the full dive system can monitor players’ emotional fluctuations in real-time. This task is triggered by that. It detects members in the same team whose trust level towards the opposite sex exceeds a certain threshold, and then sends a marriage proposal trigger message to them. Once confirmed, the task activates.”

”But, having trust in the opposite sex doesn’t mean they want to marry them, right?”

Fang Zheng found Yui’s logic a bit hard to accept, but facing Fang Zheng’s doubts and complaints, Yui blinked her big eyes curiously.

”Yes, if they don’t want to get married, they can simply refuse...”

”......”

Faced with Yui’s answer, Fang Zheng was rendered speechless.

This is indeed a typical AI way of thinking. As Yui said, indeed, a computer can’t judge whether a person truly loves another, but it provides options. If you don’t want it, just click ’No,’ right?

However, humans are far from simple...

”So, how do we complete the task?”

”For now, it seems you need to satisfy Rosalie’s wishes. Essentially, it means pleasing the ones possessed. As long as you make the possessed happy or satisfied, you can complete the task.”

”I see...”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng thought for a moment and then raised another question.

”What happens if the task fails?”

”Umm... Rosalie’s vengeful spirit will form a curse that might randomly weaken the player’s attributes or level...”

This is indeed a troublesome issue.

Hearing Yui’s response, Fang Zheng felt completely speechless. The ones hit this time are the core members of the Dark Moon Sword raid group. Any weakening of their level or attributes is something Fang Zheng absolutely cannot accept.

It seems, there’s no other choice but to help them lift the curse.
