Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 876: Chapter 875: The Key to a Successful Team Lies In...

”Change weapons?”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, Black Cat was a bit surprised.

”Is there something wrong with how I’m using my scimitar?”

”Of course not.”

Fang Zheng waved his hand.

”I admit you use the scimitar well, and your skills are indeed exceptional, but if we are to fight as a team, then I hope you can shoulder a more important responsibility.”

”Oh?”

Upon hearing this, Black Cat widened her eyes in curiosity, looking at Fang Zheng.

”What do you want me to do?”

”I want you to be the MT.”

”MT...”

Faced with Fang Zheng’s suggestion, Black Cat was clearly taken aback.

”But in this game... the concept of an MT isn’t that significant, is it?”

As Black Cat mentioned, in a typical online game, an MT would be indispensable. However, in this completely immersive virtual game, that’s not the case. The reason is simple: in this game, Creatures don’t choose their targets based on ”Hate Value,” but rather on damage values and their own assessment.

There’s no denying that SAO is a very ”special” online game. Not only is it the world’s first fully immersive game, but unlike normal online games, it lacks magic and ranged classes; everyone is melee. Moreover, there are no Skills similar to those in traditional games used to attract Hate Value.

Fang Zheng didn’t know why the game was designed this way, but probably it was to be ”true to realism.” After all, in the real world, it’s not like you can attack something and have it stand there foolishly while you and others surround and pound helplessly.

Fang Zheng also discovered through experimentation that in this game, Creature hate is primarily judged by the proximity of targets within sight range and the severity of the damage.

Once the damage is too great, the Creature will inevitably change targets.

In such a scenario, you can’t ensure that an MT can steadily hold aggro, and because there are no healing classes in this game, most Healing Elixirs can only be used outside of combat. Therefore, even if you manage to hold aggro, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee your safety.

Maybe in a regular online game, this might just be a slightly unique design, but in this current world, this setup could be quite deadly.

So Black Cat was also a bit puzzled, unsure of what Fang Zheng intended with this MT role. However, fortunately, Fang Zheng soon gave an explanation.

”The MT role I want you to play is different from those in other online games that are responsible for holding aggro. Simply put... you’re everyone’s life safeguard. When they attack Creatures, there’s a chance they might be overwhelmed or ambushed by the Creatures and bosses. At that time, I need you to block the attacks and ensure their safety.”

This was precisely the ”MT” role that Fang Zheng had custom-designed according to the new combat system of this game. Its function was not to hold aggro, but to protect teammates. Since aggro couldn’t be fixed, they had to ensure safety on their side. However, once players get too engrossed in battle, things might go south, or they might face sudden attacks when not paying attention. In Fang Zheng’s vision, MT was designed to address precisely this.

Compared to the stationary and aggro-pulling MTs in typical online games, this MT was much more challenging. To meet Fang Zheng’s expectations, the MT must have a full-field vision, master all unexpected events, and also possess excellent reflexes and self-protection abilities.

Fang Zheng could certainly manage this role, but as the Commander, he had to oversee the whole situation, so someone else needed to take on this MT role. Currently, based on the strength shown by Black Cat, she was a suitable candidate for the MT role Fang Zheng envisioned.

She was quick to react and agile, with a strong sense of overall strategy, and she learned quickly. In Fang Zheng’s view, a very suitable choice.

However...

”I also want to be clear, this means there will be a lot of pressure on you.”

Looking at Black Cat, Fang Zheng decided to give her a fair warning.

”You need to know, if you choose to do this, you will be our last line of defense. Our lives will all be in your hands. If you make a mistake, it could cost someone’s life. This will put immense pressure on you, and if you’re unwilling, I completely understand.”

”.......”

This time, Black Cat’s expression turned much more serious. She furrowed her brows, starting to deliberate thoughtfully. Naturally, with Black Cat’s understanding, she knew what Fang Zheng was asking of her, and she understood what she would face... this made Black Cat’s expression a bit hesitant.

”I’m just making a suggestion, not forcing you.”

Fang Zheng reached out and patted Black Cat on the shoulder.

”After all, you’re still just a young girl. I can understand, and honestly, if possible, I wouldn’t want to burden you with this. Although I’m confident I can ensure everyone leaves this world alive, confidence doesn’t mean there won’t be accidents. And as I said, this is an untested role, and we don’t know what will happen in actual combat.”

”Hmm... let me think it over...”

Upon hearing this, Black Cat also seemed a bit troubled. Maybe she initially found Fang Zheng’s suggestion intriguing, but after he explained the pros and cons, Black Cat also recognized the risks. Indeed, Black Cat admitted that hearing Fang Zheng say she could save lives made her quite moved. After all, actually saving lives was quite significant. For Black Cat, who’s always dreaming of saving the world, it was a very fitting role.

But then Fang Zheng threw a bucket of cold water on her, calming her excited heart completely. Just the thought of failing to protect someone and resulting in them dying under a Creature’s claws caused Black Cat to tremble. Though she was an idealist, she wasn’t a bad person. If someone died due to her negligence, it would be terrifying for Black Cat... it would simply be a nightmare.

No matter how dreamlike, Black Cat was still an ordinary middle school girl. Carrying such a heavy responsibility was indeed quite pressuring for her.

”I understand, and you don’t need to decide quickly. True, even if you decide to do this, we’ll need team practice. In fact, we just met, and we’re not familiar with each other, so why not...”

At this point, Fang Zheng paused.

”How about we go fight some Creatures to celebrate?”

”.......?”

Meow meow meow?

How infuriating!!

Walking towards the Teleportation Crystal, Asuna clenched her fists. She didn’t even know why she accepted Argo’s invitation. To be honest, if this weren’t in the Game World, Asuna would’ve thought she was caught by some sort of hypnotism.

Ever since learning that dreadful news, she had been wandering like a lost soul in the wild, not knowing what to do. She had entered this world on a whim to take a look, but unexpectedly, it turned into a nightmare for her.

How was she supposed to leave this world?

Asuna herself didn’t know. However, when Argo mentioned, ”a very skilled person is recruiting teammates,” she inexplicably nodded in agreement. In Asuna’s view, her skills and techniques were quite high, and teaming up with others might help her leave this world faster.

But what she didn’t expect was that her skills were completely looked down upon by the other party!

Even my mom has never insulted me like that!

No way!!

Asuna stopped in her tracks and suddenly thought of something.

If she walked away now, it would be like admitting that she’s indeed less skilled than him, right? Besides, she showed her skills, yet that man hadn’t shown a bit of his ability! At least... at least I have to see his skills first!

Thinking this, Asuna turned around and retraced her steps.
