Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 868: Chapter 867: Slipped Away, Slipped Away

Yuzhu felt she might never forget this absurd scene before her eyes.

In front of her, a petite red ponytail girl was fiercely brandishing a greatsword, threatening a Golden Demon Wolf, a type of fantasy species. But instead of fighting to the death, the Golden Demon Wolf tucked its tail between its legs, desperately trying to squeeze into a ball smaller than its head...

”Bang!”

A flash of radiance, and the Golden Demon Wolf disappeared. Then the ball fell to the ground, swaying left and right.

”Bang!”

And then the Golden Demon Wolf emerged again.

”... Keep trying for me, inhale! Hold your breath! Harder! Curl yourself into a ball!”

Fang Zheng waved his greatsword, glaring fiercely at the Golden Demon Wolf before him. The poor little wolf cub, freshly weaned, was no match for a fully grown Time Dragon. Trembling, it continued to try, and then...

”Bang!”

”Failed again? Are you not trying to get in? If you don’t want to, just say so! I’ve already prepared the hot pot ingredients!”

”Awoo! Awoo!!”

The Golden Demon Wolf frantically shook its head with its tail tucked, once again charging full force at the Spirit Ball, and yet... it failed again.

”What’s going on here? Why can’t I catch it?”

Fang Zheng furrowed his eyebrows, staring at the shivering Golden Demon Wolf and the Spirit Ball in front of him. This didn’t make sense unless this husky got tired of living, or otherwise, it wouldn’t dare defy him, hmm... Wait a minute, if he remembered correctly, there seemed to be only one condition under which capture would fail in Pokémon...

”Do you have an owner?”

”Awoo awoo!!”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, the Golden Demon Wolf nodded hastily. Now that he thought about it—in the world of Pokémon, you really couldn’t capture a pet with an owner... At this thought, Fang Zheng’s expectations for this broken Spirit Ball diminished even further. Where in the world were there so many good things without owners just waiting for the protagonist to pick them up? You can’t even snag someone else’s kid; what’s the use of this broken Spirit Ball?

Oh well.

”... Looks like we’ll have to make dog meat hot pot. I just wonder if the meat will taste good... Adding more laoganma should do it...”

With a helpless sigh, Fang Zheng raised his greatsword again.

”Awoo! Awoo!!”

Hearing Fang Zheng speak, the Golden Demon Wolf cried out in terror, then seemed to remember something. It suddenly raised its head, spat out a rope that seemed to be made of strands of hair, and ripped it apart with a few ”pata pata” sounds. Then, with a resolute cry of ”Awoo,” it charged at the Spirit Ball again with a look of going to its death!

”Snap!!”

”Huh? Did it succeed?”

Looking at the Spirit Ball that fell to the ground and swayed a bit before becoming motionless, Fang Zheng finally put down her greatsword and walked over to pick it up. She’s no fool; after a bit of thinking, she understood what happened. Clearly, that Golden Husky must have signed a contract with someone, and upon seeing its potential fate as hot pot meat, it decisively canceled the contract and came begging for its life.

Though it does listen to reason, it’s a bit too afraid of death.

What’s the point of keeping such a death-fearing pet?

If the Golden Demon Wolf could hear what Fang Zheng was thinking at this moment, it would definitely cry out—what exactly do you want from me!!

Even though Fang Zheng wasn’t very satisfied with this pet, since she caught it, she might as well keep it. So, she picked up the Spirit Ball and looked toward the front, only to freeze.

”Where did everyone go?”

In front of Fang Zheng, there was now only an empty space with not a shadow of anyone to be seen. The person who was just shouting about a fight to the death had long disappeared.

”She’s already left.”

Yuzhu sighed helplessly. Just as Fang Zheng was forcing the Golden Demon Wolf into the Spirit Ball, Aoko sensed things had taken a turn for the worse and fled. She’s no fool; a fantasy species that she struggled to tame, obediently listening to a little girl, even if it’s just a little girl, was not something she could handle.

Plus, the other party clearly wasn’t taking her seriously. Aoko wasn’t stupid enough to feel unbalanced and try a sneak attack to prove her existence. If the attack failed and the other party got annoyed and commanded the Golden Demon Wolf to kill her to show its loyalty... well, judging by that husky’s previous performance, it might just do that!

Thus, Aoko decisively ran off.

”Oh well, if she ran, she ran.”

Fang Zheng still had some memory and knew Aoko could be considered somewhat important, so she didn’t go for the kill. Anyway, recalling the plot from Boundary of the Sky, where he watched the story while yawning, this Aoko shouldn’t be a bad person. However... in the anime, she had a single ponytail and glasses, why does she have short hair now?

Perhaps she just wanted a new look?

But that has nothing to do with me.

Thinking of this, Fang Zheng stopped caring about Aoko, put away the Spirit Ball, and turned to Yuzhu, waving at her. Just as Fang Zheng was about to say something, a series of flames suddenly appeared from her body. Instantly, she felt the power from her previous transformation explode again!

Oh, crap, is it that time already?

Feeling the sensation in her body, Fang Zheng was shocked. She—no, it should be he at this moment—glanced at the bracelet in surprise and found that indeed, the time had come!

Is this really a forced transformation back? Damn this thing! Is there no end to its antics!

”I have something to do. I’ll go ahead. Let’s catch up later!”

Thinking of this, Fang Zheng didn’t dare to say much more to Yuzhu. If she found out his real identity, it would be over, so Fang Zheng hastily greeted Yuzhu, and without waiting for her to respond, directly activated the system and teleported back to the Main World.

Leaving Yuzhu standing there blankly, staring at the empty space before her, completely at a loss for words...

”Boom!!”

With an explosion of flames, the next moment Fang Zheng reappeared in her own room.

”Phew... What bad luck, this damn thing...”

Fang Zheng looked at her clothes, then at the bracelet in her hand. She quickly removed it and tossed it into the item slot—thank goodness this thing was detachable, or she’d really cry herself to death.

”Brother Fang Zheng?”

At that moment, a voice sounded, and Fang Zheng turned around to find Natsuse and Midori peeking curiously from the doorway.

”What are you doing?”

”Oh, nothing, I just went for a little outing, no big deal.”

Looking at the two little girls, Fang Zheng quickly waved his hand, secretly relieved that luckily, she returned after the transformation ended. Otherwise, if they had seen, there’d be no way to explain it!

”...?”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s answer, the two exchanged a look, and then Natsuse hesitantly asked.

”Brother Fang Zheng, just now Nobiru said she heard a strange girl’s voice...”

”A strange girl?”

Fang Zheng was taken aback and then recalled that he had yelled a few times after finishing his transformation out of reflex... And Nobiru actually heard it?!

This was indeed a blunder!

Thinking of this, Fang Zheng shook her head.

”I didn’t hear any girl’s voice.”

”Really? But...”

”Oh, Natsuse.”

Seeing Natsuse’s doubtful look, Fang Zheng, sweating coldly, interrupted her.

”We should also get ready to head to the next world. Be prepared; we don’t know who will be going this time.”

”Okay!”

Hearing this, Natsuse and Midori finally let go of their doubts, and Fang Zheng quickly opened her personal terminal, activating the preparation for the ”Trial Instance.” Soon, the clock chimed outside, and not long after, the screen in front of Fang Zheng showed everyone was ready.

”Phew... Time to skedaddle...”

Seeing this, Fang Zheng wiped the cold sweat off her forehead. Strictly speaking, he’d rather lay low at the Heavenly Dao Palace for a while longer, but since this transformation couldn’t be exposed, Fang Zheng decided... to scurry off to another world to lay low!

Then Fang Zheng reached out and pressed the teleportation button on the Dimensional Codex.

The last time was a one-star trial of ”Strength,” so this time... let’s choose ”Wisdom!”
