Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 872: Chapter 871 Unusual Test Method

Just as Fang Zheng had anticipated, it wasn’t long after he left the square that the words he had spoken quickly spread among the players.

Nobody wanted to die, especially under these circumstances. Yet, before that, most players didn’t know what they should do or how to do it. As a result, they were very confused, acting only on instinct. However, Fang Zheng provided them with direction.

More importantly, Fang Zheng didn’t force these players to do things his way. Instead, he provided them with analysis, suggestions, and options, letting them make their own decisions. Not to mention, everything he said made a lot of sense, so when these players calmed down, they immediately spread the word.

”Listen, just now I heard a player say something in the square, and he said......”

”Huh? You doubt he’s just talking nonsense? He’s a game designer! He sees these things much more clearly than we do!!”

”Come back quickly! You idiot! That person said the data from the closed beta and open beta will change; we need to recalibrate our plans!!”

This is human nature. Fang Zheng didn’t force them to accept his ideas and opinions, but those ordinary players were different. In the process of spreading the news, in order to make their companions believe these ”secondhand messages,” they naturally took the initiative to persuade them.

Especially those closed beta players. Although most of them left as soon as possible, a portion of the closed beta players stayed. After hearing Fang Zheng’s explanation, they broke out into a cold sweat, then immediately contacted other closed beta players urging them to leave quickly, but...

”Move aside! Move aside!!”

As the square was in a commotion, suddenly, a robed player desperately pushed through the crowd, running towards the Black Stele. Upon seeing the names appearing on the Black Stele, he burst into tears and fell to his knees.

”What happened?”

”What’s going on?”

Looking at the player, others grew curious, and soon they got the news — that player and his companion were also part of the closed beta group. His companion had rushed to leave the square first upon hearing the news, intending to take a shortcut to another town but made an error.

Originally in the closed beta, there were no creatures on that path. But this time, when his companion took the shortcut, he was surrounded by a group of creatures. He only had time to send his friend a message saying ”creatures spawned here!” before going silent...

If what Fang Zheng had said before was merely analysis, seeing this living case terrified the players who hadn’t left the square, fortifying their belief in Fang Zheng’s words.

”Damn it... hateful!!”

Glaring viciously at the departing figure of Fang Zheng’s group, Tooth King clenched his fists. No one paid him any attention now; other players were busy contacting their companions or discussing how to progress next. This left Tooth King quite disgruntled, feeling as though the entire world had abandoned him. Even though there were so many people in the square, Tooth King felt alone.

This won’t end just like this!!

Thinking of this, Tooth King gritted his teeth and followed. He wanted to see where this arrogant bastard, who spoke such flowery words, was going. If he was just deliberately confusing perception while finding shortcuts or cheating, then Tooth King would expose him for what he truly was!!

But surprisingly for Tooth King, Fang Zheng’s group didn’t go to any secret paths or special areas as he had thought. Instead, they stopped on the plains outside the town and surrounded a newly spawned novice wild boar creature, taking hits at it from time to time, as Fang Zheng approached to engage with the boar...

What are they doing?

Looking at this scene, Tooth King felt puzzled. If you say they were leveling up in a methodical way, but why would three people hit one creature?

What kind of development is this?

Tooth King couldn’t understand, but with his pride, there’s no way he would go up and ask directly. However, the fact that Tooth King wouldn’t ask didn’t mean others wouldn’t. In fact, following Fang Zheng’s group weren’t just Tooth King. Many of them might have held the same thoughts as Tooth King, but another part of them clearly knew that the man ahead was a golden opportunity. Even if they couldn’t hang onto him, just observing and learning something while by his side would be beneficial.

After all, this was a matter of life and death!

Soon, a small-statured player, fully cloaked in yellow, walked over, carefully observing the actions of Fang Zheng and his group, then curiously asked.

”Um... could you please tell me what exactly you’re doing?”

Upon hearing the inquiry, Fang Zheng turned his head. Standing behind him was a petite woman, fully cloaked in a robe, curiously observing him. Her face had three pairs of whiskers painted on it; perhaps it was some special mark...

”You don’t understand?”

”This... I really don’t.”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, the woman nodded. Initially, she thought Fang Zheng and his group were fighting creatures to level up, but upon closer inspection found it wasn’t the case. Restia and Ester were blocking the wild boar creature’s path, and Ester struck it with a sword, knocking it back right into Fang Zheng, who then examined the part hit by the wild boar and his HP, jotting down some data in a notepad, while Restia blocked the boar again from another direction.

If it weren’t an NPC, it might have died instantly from anger.

”I’m testing the game’s physical collision model and damage data.”

”Physical collision... what?”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s answer, the woman had an expression that said ”I understand each word you said, but when together, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

”It’s simple.”

Seeing the woman’s puzzled look, Fang Zheng spread his hands.

”Perhaps to you, this world seems real, but in fact, it’s still a virtual world made up of numbers and data. By analyzing collision areas and damage values, we can recover the game’s engine and data models to the fullest extent. Usually, game companies won’t disclose this stuff to players... and of course, you might not be interested.”

”But... what’s the use?”

”Of course it’s useful. By understanding these data, we can figure out the monsters’ attack methods, ranges, normal attack damages, defense/pierce values, and so forth. As I mentioned before, the game’s margin of error is zero, meaning if we fail against a boss, there’s no option for failure. By establishing our analysis, we can discern what kind of strength our enemies possess, their actions, and stats like battle power and HP.”

”Can... this really be done?”

Upon hearing this, the woman’s expression changed instantly. She was an experienced gamer and knew what understanding these data meant to a game. Especially in their current ”Death Game,” this was crucial.

If they could strategically deploy against each boss, perhaps there’d be a chance to clear all 100 floors and escape this game!

”I’m trying, and to some extent, we should be able to extract some data. But this game wasn’t developed by me, so for core data, all I can say is... let’s give it a try.”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s response, the woman hesitated for a moment, then stepped forward.

”I have a proposal... have you ever thought of... spreading this information?”

”Of course, the more people alive, the better. This is an online game, not the real world. For us, any player alive could be an asset; I don’t wish for them to die needlessly either.”

”Then, how about we cooperate?”

”Cooperate?”

Upon hearing this, Fang Zheng raised an eyebrow and looked at the woman. She also pulled back her hood, smiled, and extended her hand towards Fang Zheng.

”I’m Argo, an information broker. I think... perhaps we can work together? What do you think?”
