Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 862: Chapter 861 Night of the Mage (Part 1)

”Who are you?”

Staring at the black-haired girl in front of him, Fang Zheng raised the longsword in his hand and asked softly. The girl quietly watched Fang Zheng, seemingly displeased with his attire and the weapon in his hand, although what bothered her exactly... Fang Zheng couldn’t quite put his finger on it.

What? How dare you attack me from behind and not even have the guts to give your name?

”...Kuonji Arcueid.”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, the girl calmly stated her name.

”So, why did you attack me?”

”To make you leave here.”

”...Leave here?”

Upon hearing the girl’s response, Fang Zheng was taken aback for a moment, then snorted softly.

”Why should I leave? Is this your family’s estate or something?”

”Yes.”

But to Fang Zheng’s surprise, the girl nodded her head.

”This is Kuonji’s private property.”

...MMP!

Fang Zheng glanced around the surrounding forest, remaining silent.

Damn capitalism!

”Alright, sorry, I was wrong, my apologies.”

Fang Zheng lowered the longsword in his hand and sighed helplessly.

”I didn’t know there was someone here... Can I leave now?”

Originally, if it was the other party’s fault, it wouldn’t matter, but since it was his own mistake, Fang Zheng wasn’t shameless enough to stay. Since the other party pointed out that this was her private land, Fang Zheng naturally wouldn’t have the face to stay here.

Logically speaking, the other party wouldn’t let Fang Zheng leave so easily. From the previous attack, Fang Zheng could discern that this girl was a magician. According to the rules of the magic world, exposing one’s identity would typically warrant silencing witnesses... but that was if the other party were an ordinary person.

However, earlier, not only did Fang Zheng display extraordinary power, but he also summoned Fire Joy, which obviously indicated that these were actions no ordinary person could achieve—definitely something a magician would do. So since it was a conflict between two magicians, Fang Zheng thought it was time for them to have a parting line like in martial hero novels: ”Though the green hills remain, the rivers flow forever, we’ll meet again someday.”

”Crack.”

However, just as Fang Zheng was considering whether martial hero novel lines would work in the magician world, suddenly, a few crackling sounds reached his ears. Hearing these sounds, Fang Zheng raised an eyebrow, then looked around. He saw, within the distant forest, the silhouettes of several men in cloaks and top hats appearing, surrounding both him and the black-haired girl.

What now?

Fang Zheng observed those figures with a slightly dark expression. He could tell that they weren’t real humans, but something like creatures possessed by evil spirits. Moreover, from the malice they emitted, it was clear they had no good intentions.

However, facing these strange beings, the black-haired girl seemed quite calm, quietly observing the silhouettes around her before softly speaking.

”Finally found you.”

”......”

So she was specifically looking for these guys.

By this point, Fang Zheng had somewhat figured things out. Judging by the appearance of these creatures, it was obvious they were up to no good. Clearly, the black-haired girl noticed enemies had intruded into her territory, came to investigate, and accidentally caught him planning to roast a rabbit, mistaking Fang Zheng as one of the enemies... Wait, where’s my roasted rabbit?

Thinking of this, Fang Zheng immediately looked towards the campfire and fell silent...

That rabbit wasn’t foolish, it ran away early.

”Squeak, squeak, squeak...”

At this moment, the monstrous puppets surrounding the two burst into sharp laughter, grinning with blood-red mouths and extending their hands—not ordinary human arms, but sharp blades.

Alright, they’re definitely enemies.

For any ordinary person surrounded by so many creatures, they’d probably be scared into tears. However, the black-haired girl remained as calm as ever, or as Fang Zheng saw it, she was expressionless. From their meeting until now, her demeanor could be described with the word ”cold,” well... there’s no need to search for other adjectives.

”...Is there no one we can communicate with?”

Facing the puppet monsters in front of her, the girl coldly asked again. However, those puppet monsters only responded with creepy laughter, then their figures flashed and suddenly lunged towards the two!

Seeing the puppets’ attack, the black-haired girl’s expression didn’t change. She reached out, taking out something. But before she could act further, suddenly, a voice resounded!

”Courting death!”

With this voice, the black-haired girl was surprised to see the red ponytail girl’s greatsword split from the middle, dividing into two. Suddenly, a fierce flame erupted from within, enveloping the entire greatsword. Then, the red ponytail girl gave a furious shout and charged towards the puppet monsters!

Seeing this, the black-haired girl frowned. She knew these puppets were hard to deal with, otherwise, she wouldn’t have come fully armed this time. But this girl... while she seemed to be a magician, it was clear she wasn’t a traditional one...

”Squeak, squeak, squeak!!”

As expected, seeing the enemy take the first action, the puppets targeted her. Several puppets swung their blade-like arms towards Fang Zheng, while the rest opened their mouths wide, firing a barrage of black magic bullets towards the red ponytail girl.

Seeing this, the black-haired girl’s expression grew serious. The enemy was clearly prepared this time, even she might not come out on top here. This girl was so reckless, would there be no problems?

Facing the impending black magic bullets, the red ponytail girl neither dodged nor evaded, charging straight ahead. Just as the black magic bullets were about to hit the red ponytail girl, unexpectedly, an unprecedented scene unfolded.

The red ponytail girl’s body was suddenly surrounded by an azure light shield, which blocked and instantly nullified the incoming black magic bullets!

What kind of power is this?!

Seeing this, even the black-haired girl was astonished, her eyes widening in surprise. In the Type Moon World, there are techniques that can block magic bullets. However, those typically rely on magical tools or magic circuits, as many magical techniques from ancient times have been lost due to the decline of the magic world. Yet... this red ponytail girl could actually use magic alone to block magic bullets?

Who exactly is she?

Of course, Fang Zheng wouldn’t care about the black-haired girl’s inner surprise. Although he had transformed into a girl due to the transformation bracelet, this didn’t strip him of his original spellcasting ability. And as a mage, casting various protective and trigger spells on oneself every morning as a precaution was as routine as eating and drinking water. Not to mention, Fang Zheng had reached Nine-Ring Spell level, just one step away from becoming a legendary mage!

A puny magic bullet was nothing to her!

Simply put, even without a magic shield, with Fang Zheng’s time dragon magic resistance, most Type Moon World magecraft wouldn’t even scratch her, alright!

”Haaah———!”

With a roaring shout, Fang Zheng viciously swung the greatsword, instantly cleaving several puppets in half. These flimsy puppets were far from being a match for her, and in a blink, fragments flew, limbs scattered, and were reduced to ashes amidst burning flames.

Facing such an unexpected battle situation, the remaining puppets were shocked, clearly not anticipating the strange-looking girl to be so formidable. Seeing they had no advantage, they hurriedly attempted to escape. But Fang Zheng wouldn’t let them have the chance; are you kidding? Because of these guys, there was no rabbit to eat, and they still wanted to flee?

Just because I can’t beat her as a cute girl doesn’t mean I can’t handle a group of flimsy puppets!

”Go to hell!!”

With a roaring shout, Fang Zheng swung the sword down again, smashing the puppet into fragments.
