System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Dai Linfang had grand ambitions, which wasn’t very endearing. Lu Cheng said, ”Brother Dai, let’s calm down first!”

”Brother Dai, I’m not daring to expand the project too much right now, I’m afraid I won’t be able to recoup it later.”

Dai Linfang replied, ”Brother Lu, you’re too cautious.”

”It’s not that I’m cautious, but Brother Dai, our statuses are different, our risk tolerance is entirely different.”

”For instance, Brother Dai, you owe millions in loans and don’t seem fazed, while I struggle to earn back the monthly payment in a month. How can I not be cautious?”

”Our sunk costs are different.” Lu Cheng raised his voice.

”Brother Dai, your connections are yours, not mine. If I can’t even see this clearly, I’ve wasted my years in society.”

”So, Brother Dai, if you really want to help, just do some work in the project group, handle the data analysis, and we can take things slowly.”

”If you find our place too small, you can leave any time.”

Lu Cheng admitted that when it came to boldness, he wasn’t even as significant as a hair of Dai Linfang.

The two had entirely different experiences.

Lu Cheng even speculated that behind Dai Linfang at least stood a provincial leader; otherwise, he wouldn’t dare to be so conceited.

”Brother Lu, how about this, I take responsibility, I shoulder the main responsibility, and you just reap the benefits, without any responsibility on your part!” Dai Linfang suggested once more.

Clearly, Dai Linfang still wanted to take this money.

Lu Cheng immediately said, ”That’s not gonna happen.”

”If you want to take it, take it on your own; don’t involve me. Brother Dai, you have the capability and connections, how much you take has nothing to do with me.”

”I can’t play these games, nor handle them.”

”Also, my ambitions aren’t that grand either, being reasonably well-off is enough for me.”

Dai Linfang laughed, ”Brother Lu, you say just being reasonably well-off is enough for you? Why can’t I believe that?”

”At least for now, that’s what I think.” Lu Cheng admitted he made himself sound too hypocritical.

”I can’t handle you, Brother Dai, so I’m wary of borrowing too much of your influence. For me, the reason I agreed to let you join the project group was entirely due to your data processing skills.”

”My experience has fixed and solidified my insights, and my insights restrict my choices.”

”This can’t be changed temporarily; the only thing that can change it is additional experiences to fill the gap.”

”So Brother Dai, I truly believe in your sincerity, but I can’t act that way. It can only be done bit by bit.”

Dai Linfang wasn’t upset, ”Alright, it seems I’m still young. Compared to my uncle, his understanding is much more grounded in reality.”

”Then, Brother Lu, I’ll say this, I’ll withdraw the funding. We’ll move forward step by step.”

Lu Cheng emphasized, ”Brother Dai, I’m saying, you’re not bound here, if you have better opportunities, you’re free to go anytime. We haven’t signed any contracts, and even if we did, they wouldn’t bind you.”

Dai Linfang, being such a miraculous person, it’s a good thing if he doesn’t cause trouble.

Lu Cheng even hoped Dai Linfang could leave.

”Brother Lu, we haven’t been getting along for long, and there’s no trust.”

”So I won’t say anything grandiose, I just do things I’m interested in. That’s all I like to do,” Dai Linfang said.

”Time will reveal one’s heart, let’s talk after I’m back next year.”

”However, I still hope we can find a time to properly talk again.”

”That works. Brother Dai.” This was something Lu Cheng could agree to.

”Oh, by the way, Brother Lu, can I make an unreasonable request?” Dai Linfang asked.

”Go ahead.” Lu Cheng replied.

Dai Linfang said, ”Can you and Sister Mu not be so harsh on Xie Yuan’an, she’s actually just a simple person.”

Lu Cheng felt a slight tingling on his scalp, ”Does this have anything to do with what we were just talking about? How did you jump topics so far?”

Dai Linfang replied, ”Oh, I was just speaking casually, no rehearsal.”

Lu Cheng advised, ”Brother Dai, in our project group’s interactions, it varies from person to person. If you want to meddle, we haven’t been together for long.”

”Forget it, just pretend I didn’t say anything, didn’t ask anything.” Dai Linfang quickly said.

...

After hanging up, Lu Cheng looked at his notes on Dai Linfang, shook his head, and walked into the shop.

Mu Nanshu had just finished picking up the dishes and, after preparing the condiments, was waiting for Lu Cheng.

On the evening of the second day of the Lunar New Year, business was booming, and Mu Nanshu was holding a spot for Lu Cheng, otherwise, it might have been snatched by others.

”Do you want to add some more dishes?” Mu Nanshu didn’t even ask about the outcome of Lu Cheng and Dai Linfang’s conversation. Based on what she knew of Lu Cheng, it most likely flopped.

Lu Cheng wouldn’t want ill-gotten gains.

Lu Cheng looked at the dishes the owner had cooked and said, ”That’s enough, let’s not waste more.”

”This is the most extravagant New Year I’ve had, so much food is wasted in Ji City.”

”What a waste.”

Mu Nanshu said irritably, ”Actually, my parents don’t like wasting either, but if there hadn’t been such disturbances before, would there be waste?”

”They came from poor backgrounds, alright?”

Lu Cheng smiled and said, ”Well, that’s why you’re a second-generation rich, and I’m a second-generation poor.”

After the meal, the two went back to the house.

They hadn’t been gone for many days, so there was no need to clean up. After changing into their pajamas, they sat on the sofa, snacking on sunflower seeds and watching a movie.

Not long after, Professor Chen Song, perhaps just seeing the message in the group, called Lu Cheng on WeChat voice call.
