System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Xiao Lu, was that your girlfriend just now?” Sister Yang asked after Mu Nanshu left.

”She’s so pretty. You two really make a handsome couple.”

The term ”pretty” in Xiangzhou means looking good, not referring to personality.

Yang Liping is the head nurse of the emergency department and an associate nurse director. She’s not considered old, only forty, and although she hasn’t maintained herself well, she still carries a trendy vibe.

This gives Sister Yang’s outfits a bit of a rustic trendy feel, but Yang Liping has a wonderful personality, which is why she’s suited for the head nurse position in the emergency department.

Lu Cheng had just changed his clothes and was heading in the direction of the emergency room. Hearing this, he nodded, ”Head Nurse, are you saying I’m only talented? I think I’m pretty handsome too, right?”

”Haha...” Yang Liping chuckled. ”Right, right, you two are the perfect couple!”

”Xiao Lu, if you hadn’t said you had a girlfriend, I would have had plenty of connections for you.”

”Well, Sister Yang didn’t quite understand you before, but after seeing your girlfriend, I get it now.”

The head nurse handles various administrative tasks and even matchmaking duties...

”Thank you, Head Nurse and Director, for your kindness. I’m sorry I couldn’t take up your offers, but my girlfriend and I are doing well.”

”Sister Yang, you’re nothing like Director Tian with those unprofessional suggestions, right?” Lu Cheng joked.

Upon hearing this, Yang Liping’s expression changed, and her tone turned serious, ”What? Tian Zhiliang’s been doing such shameless things?”

”I’ll definitely give him a piece of my mind when he’s back at work tomorrow.”

”He’s getting more and more out of hand.”

As the saying goes, better to break ten temples than one family.

How can anyone meddle in a relationship?

”That’s not necessary, Sister Yang. Director Tian was just joking.”

”I’m off to my shift now!” Lu Cheng pointed towards the emergency room.

”Alright, go ahead,” Yang Liping waved at Lu Cheng and then picked up her phone, clearly about to question Tian Zhiliang.

Lu Cheng didn’t feel guilty for bringing this up. If Tian Zhiliang had only mentioned it once or twice, it was a joke.

But Tian Zhiliang had mentioned it at least five or six times, even as a joke, it was too much! While it didn’t upset him, it was fine to mention it to resolve the issue.

Lu Cheng was there to work, not to be involved in the department’s matchmaking games.

Issues like this should be resolved promptly to avoid misunderstandings later.

...

Time passes like water, and in the blink of an eye, more than ten days had gone by.

February 7th, the twenty-eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, at 12:40 PM.

Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu didn’t go to the lab or out for a meal. After finishing lunch at home, Lu Cheng started pushing Mu Nanshu’s suitcase and makeup bag towards the door.

Mu Nanshu hesitated at the door, ”How about I stay and spend the New Year with you? You might not be able to order takeout all alone.”

Lu Cheng was unlucky, with shifts on the emergency night shift of the twenty-eighth, ward day shift of the twenty-ninth, and ward night shift on New Year’s Eve, working to the max.

This wasn’t due to anyone targeting Lu Cheng; it was just that his schedule happened to fall on these days.

”No worries, you and Auntie have already prepared so much food for me, I can just heat it up.”

”Plus, working on New Year’s Eve, the hospital provides meals, and the leadership will give out red envelopes. You should go home and be with Uncle and Auntie...”

Lu Cheng encouraged, ”Go ahead, Uncle Mu and Auntie are waiting.”

Mu Leng and Yan Sangyue decided to spend the New Year back home, despite not getting along with Uncle Mu. But after all, the old man is still around!

The New Year is about reunion, being with the elderly, and with the children.

”Alright then...”

”Will Uncle Lu and the family spend the New Year with you?” Mu Nanshu asked again.

”They’re going home too. I’ll finish my shift on New Year’s Eve and then drive back for New Year’s Day, which is nice.”

”The only downside is that I have to be back at work on the third day,” Lu Cheng said.

”There’s nothing you can do if you have to work,” Mu Nanshu said and finally got on the elevator with Lu Cheng.

After going downstairs, Lu Cheng personally drove Mu Nanshu to Mu Leng and Yan Sangyue, watching them drive off before heading back.

Lu Cheng hadn’t rested long before he got up to call Lu Nanjia and Tian Hui.

Lu Nanjia and Tian Hui shared their ”eye-catching” performance from the day before.

The old hometown had a custom of not slaughtering chickens on the twenty-eighth, and Lu Cheng was of the Tujia Clan, which celebrated the New Year a day earlier than other ethnic groups.

If the New Year was on the thirtieth, the Tujia Clan celebrated on the twenty-ninth. If it was celebrated on the twenty-ninth, they celebrated on the twenty-eighth.

This year, there was New Year’s Eve.

”Mom, can you finish all that? You didn’t leave me any. I’ve told you so many times, freshly killed and cooked chicken is tastier.”

”How much can you eat for the New Year anyway?” Lu Cheng joked.

”There’s plenty left for you. Grandma is saving it! She’s especially happy this year.”

”Is your mom out playing cards again?” Tian Hui asked Lu Nanjia.

Lu Nanjia was peeling garlic, ”Well, they say my mom goes out to play cards every day, but actually, she’s out to show off.”

”She just wants to hear people say that her son Lu Cheng is promising.”

”Just like you,” Tian Hui raised her voice. ”What? Say it again?”

”Don’t think I don’t know what you’ve been doing at that vegetable market street for the past month, selling every day with a burden? Just to brag to people?”
