System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Good technique is obvious in front of someone professional at a glance.

Xiao Zhaoxi subtly glanced at Lu Cheng. He himself did not come from a surgical background. He had some understanding of surgeries, but not as profound as Yao Xin.

His voice was understated but slightly shocked: ”Dean Yao, does Xiao Lu actually have such skills from that previous surgery he did?”

”It was discussed at a national academic conference?”

”And Lu Cheng as the main surgeon didn’t attend?”

Yao Xin replied, ”At the time, the main surgeon wasn’t listed as Lu Cheng. The one working with Lu Cheng, Professor Chen Song, also seems to know this surgical technique, so he had his insights during the discussion.”

Xiao Zhaoxi said, ”Director Yao, then it’s simple, why not invite Professor Chen Song for a consultation surgery?”

Xiao Zhaoxi didn’t know who Professor Chen Song was, but if he’s become a professor, he should have some level.

Professors without skills wouldn’t dare wander outside, let alone run around doing consultation surgeries. If you lose face at home, you can handle it internally; losing face outside is your own business.

Yao Xin gestured towards Lu Cheng with his chin: ”A few points, firstly, Professor Chen Song is currently very busy, with no time for consultation surgery.”

”Secondly, Professor Chen said that the person is right here in our hospital, no need to look far for what’s close!~”

”That’s why I came to discuss with Director Xiao, to borrow some of your staff after the new year to help me out.”

”Xiao Lu’s skills aren’t just limited to one area; his liver-related techniques are also very dependable.”

Hearing Yao Xin say this, Xiao Zhaoxi’s eyes flickered: ”Dean Yao, you truly put in a lot of effort to recruit Lu Cheng.”

”Lu Cheng, what are your thoughts?”

”If Dean Yao wasn’t genuinely interested in you, he wouldn’t do so much homework. Hepatobiliary Surgery is quite good.”

”There are many things I don’t dare authorize you for, which Dean Yao has the capability for.”

Lu Cheng thought carefully before graciously declining: ”Dean Yao, thank you very much for the invitation, but I believe I’m still best suited to work in the Emergency Department right now, as it better facilitates my personal development.”

”And what about the matter of helping out?” Yao Xin understood Lu Cheng, as Lu Cheng still had projects, all related to trauma, covering many fields.

Only in the Emergency Department could he simultaneously have the opportunity to encounter many conditions. Going to a specialty would restrict him greatly instead.

”As long as Dean Yao and Director Xiao agree, I can make myself available to help,” Lu Cheng replied.

Xiao Zhaoxi then said: ”Dean Yao, if you personally go through the process, there’ll definitely be no problem, it’s Xiao Lu’s fortune to be able to help.”

”Alright, let’s settle this then.”

Yao Xin smiled happily yet with deeper meaning: ”Director Xiao, the Xiao Lu in your department is like a cup of old tea; are you sure you’re willing to let go?”

”The more you savor this tea, the more flavorful it gets.”

Yao Xin is not only the Director of Hepatobiliary Surgery but also a Vice Dean. To him, Xiao Zhaoxi is indeed talented, and if he himself is unwilling to move, the hospital wouldn’t easily replace the Emergency Department director either.

Xiao Zhaoxi stated clearly: ”Dean Yao, I’m just not lucky enough to have this fortune.”

”No matter how good the tea is, it needs to be the right time.”

”But Xiao Lu is indeed impressive, I hope Dean Yao can lend more support if possible.”

Yao Xin said: ”I’ve already been supportive; asking for more would be a mistake.”

Lu Cheng immediately said: ”Thank you, Dean Yao!”

The surgical authorities he’s had at the State People’s Hospital were all obtained through Yao Xin’s request. Although part of it was due to the ’data monitoring’ by the State Health and Health Commission, Yao Xin was also a driving force.

Lu Cheng was selected from an examination to join the State People’s Hospital, and within less than a month, had received authorization to perform routine level-three and new surgical techniques, the fastest authorization at the State People’s Hospital.

Certainly, they couldn’t grant Lu Cheng direct authorization for level-four surgeries that require a senior advanced title, right?

The State People’s Hospital and the State Health and Health Commission wouldn’t dare to be that bold!

After the decision, Yao Xin left first. As the year-end approached, his primary goal was to resolve the pending surgical cases in the department, not to chat with Xiao Zhaoxi.

After Yao Xin left, Xiao Zhaoxi saw that it was still early and stayed a bit longer, smiling as he asked, ”Xiao Lu, although I anticipated that your abilities were quite strong, isn’t this a bit too outrageous?”

”Dean Yao said you could also perform Liver Preservation Surgery?”

Lu Cheng was puzzled: ”How did Dean Yao also know about this?”

The Liver Suturing Technique was something Lu Cheng recently developed. He had only demonstrated it to Chen Song and others, not yet formalized it.

As for Liver Preservation Surgery, Lu Cheng had learned it while following Professor Chen Song in the past, but it wasn’t systematized.

Of course, Lu Cheng was equipped with a panel; as long as his approach was correct and his skill points were sufficient, learning Liver Preservation Surgery would be fast.

”This proves Dean Yao truly has your best interests at heart...” Xiao Zhaoxi implied.

”I’m just not sure why you’re unwilling to go to Dean Yao’s department.”

Lu Cheng had previously mentioned to Xiao Zhaoxi that he had a good relationship with Yao Xin, and could receive discreet news from him.

However, looking at it today, it seems the good relationship between Lu Cheng and Yao Xin was one-sided, with Yao Xin proactively providing Lu Cheng with information, rather than Lu Cheng actively seeking it.

In contrast, Yao Xin had to use formal channels to request Lu Cheng to do things, instead of issuing direct orders.

A Vice Dean at the State People’s Hospital had to go through channels to get Lu Cheng’s assistance, yet Lu Cheng was just an attending physician in the Emergency Department.

The situation sounded absurd, yet it unfolded right before his eyes.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for heading to the Provincial People’s Hospital, Xiao Zhaoxi would have really liked to appreciate Lu Cheng’s skills, but he didn’t have the energy for it. All his focus was on engaging with the Provincial People’s Hospital, job handovers, and resignation procedures.

”Director Xiao, this somewhat relates to the projects I’m working on,” Lu Cheng answered.

Xiao Zhaoxi laughed casually: ”No need to be so cautious; I’m on my way out, I won’t covet any of those things of yours.”

”In fact, what I want most is to sever ties cleanly, so I’m not stuck dragging things out when I leave.”

Lu Cheng smiled and said: ”Director Xiao, it’s just taking some shortcuts.”

”At my age, sticking to the conventional route for learning standard surgical procedures wouldn’t allow me to catch up to others’ pace, so I can only focus on researching techniques.”

Xiao Zhaoxi was momentarily stunned: ”Not just one, right?”

”Four or five types!” Lu Cheng answered honestly.

Xiao Zhaoxi took a deep breath sharply, still not enough, and lit a cigarette, taking a slow drag: ”You’ve indeed replicated the online meme.”

”A specialist student aiming for a bachelor’s degree, applied for a provincial key project, asking if it could succeed.”

Xiao Zhaoxi didn’t exaggerate by mentioning winning a Nobel, but it was of similar nature.

Original techniques are something only top-tier teaching hospital teams dare to think about. Heads of average city hospitals and faculty or research teams at ordinary teaching hospitals mostly engage in mediocre projects.

The practicality of developing surgical techniques is too strong, directly impacting the clinical realm; success and failure go hand in hand, fraught with extreme risk and high sunk costs.

Every top professor has their ideas and unique interpretations of conditions, or certain operational tricks, but to categorize these tricks as Suturing Techniques is what opens up the industry.

Lu Cheng is indeed brave, venturing headlong into it and reaping benefits; this ability is somewhat extraordinary.

No wonder he’s achieved so much beyond what was expected.

Things that would deter even professors from consultations and surgeries wouldn’t be lacking.

Lu Cheng humbly replied: ”Director Xiao, it’s just luck, there’s no other way, besides taking this gamble, there weren’t other paths.”

Xiao Zhaoxi remarked: ”It seems Xiao Shu has been quite a pressure for you too.”

Lu Cheng immediately responded: ”No! It has nothing to do with her.”

”Alright, alright, I know your relationship is good, focus on developing it well, I look forward to your wedding banquet.”

”Seeing you youngsters doing well brings me happiness. Outperforming us old frogs is a good thing.” Xiao Zhaoxi gave Lu Cheng a thumbs-up.

He added: ”But don’t forget the conventional and mainstream.”

”Thank you, Director Xiao. I’ll keep working hard.” Lu Cheng knew Director Xiao was talking about the fundamentals.
