System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”I know everything.” Lu Nanjia began to complain.

Tian Hui’s face flushed with urgency: ”Me?”

”They were all asking me.”

Lu Nanjia continued to vent: ”If you don’t pick up the burden and run, do others stop their business to ask you?”

Tian Hui couldn’t argue with Lu Nanjia because she was in the wrong, so she resorted to personal attacks: ”Unlike you, you can’t even fart outside, you’re so honest that anyone can bully you.”

Lu Nanjia said: ”Being honest is not being bullied, why need so many tricks?”

”Why is my business slightly better than others’, you only see my hard work, right?”

Lu Cheng could tell that Lu Nanjia was talking so much today because he was a bit excited; otherwise, he wouldn’t dare to confront Tian Hui directly before.

As the saying goes, ”a child surpasses their parent,” and Lu Nanjia and Tian Hui’s generation had their children succeed, which made them proud.

In the rural home, so-called success wasn’t about having riches; being obedient and having a stable job was considered glorious.

If one could really snag a high position in the civil service system, it wouldn’t just be glorious; relatives would be knocking on the door, calling it a ”big family”!

In the average rural area, those with a monthly salary over ten thousand were rare.

”Second Brother, Sister-in-law,” Lu Nanyong called out.

Lu Nanjia and Tian Hui quickly stood up, looking slightly awkward: ”Nanyong, Su Qin, you’re back too?”

Aunt Yao Suqin quickly said: ”Second Brother, Sister-in-law, you sit. No need to stand up.”

”Do you still need to peel garlic?”

As she spoke, Yao Suqin saw Lu Cheng in Tian Hui’s phone and smiled: ”Lu Cheng, when can you get a holiday? You went to the State and didn’t come back even for the New Year?”

”Auntie, I need to be on duty even during New Year. I just got here this month, the schedule is all set, definitely can’t get leave.”

”Unlike you, having full winter and summer breaks?” Lu Cheng asked.

Aunt Yao Suqin is a middle school teacher, part of a pretty standard doctor-teacher family with Lu Nanyong; besides being busy, they have no big issues.

”The winter and summer breaks for teachers are for survival; now the children are harder to manage. Without winter or summer breaks, I’d end up in a mental hospital.”

”Not like your generation of kids.”

Yao Suqin continued: ”Sister-in-law, shall we go pick some cabbage?”

Tian Hui immediately apologized upon hearing this: ”I promised your second brother to pick some, and I forgot in a blink.”

”Su Qin, you just arrived, you rest, I’ll go.”

Yao Suqin said: ”Sister-in-law, let’s go together. I’m planning to make some pickled cabbage, need to pick more.”

The two discussed it and left.

The relationship between Yao Suqin and Tian Hui isn’t exceptionally close, but there are no major issues.

Mostly because Yao Suqin seldom interacts with Tian Hui, so there’s not much to dispute most of the time.

After Tian Hui and Yao Suqin left, Lu Nanyong asked: ”Lu Cheng, isn’t the work atmosphere at State People’s Hospital quite stressful?”

”Not as leisurely as our county.”

Lu Cheng replied: ”Uncle, it’s actually not bad. In the emergency surgery department where I am, it’s more relaxed than in the county.”

Lu Nanyong was a bit surprised: ”More relaxed?”

”Yeah, the emergency department here doesn’t do surgeries, only rescues; after saving patients, they are sent to the operating room or specialist departments, or say goodbye with the relatives if not saved.”

”Our emergency surgery department has a much lower workload than internal medicine.”

”Uncle, how are you? Did you get your associate senior title?”

Lu Nanyong rubbed the corner of his eye, glanced aside, seeing Yao Suqin had already walked far, jokingly said: ”If your uncle had been more sensible back then, listened to the leaders’ ideas, maybe the associate senior title would have been early attained.”

”Now, have to wait two years before retirement.”

Lu Nanjia coughed, sounding serious: ”You’re just not satisfied. Su Qin is so good, managing the kids at home in perfect order!”

”Brother, indeed.” Lu Nanyong knew he couldn’t explain the relationships and ins and outs to Lu Nanjia, so he didn’t say much more.

Lu Nanyong and Lu Nanjia’s father died early; Lu Nanyong’s achievements were heavily supported by Lu Nanjia back when he was studying, making Lu Nanyong the most successful in this generation.

The family gave him all the support they could.

”But I estimate Xiao Lu will get the associate senior title before me. After all, he has grassroots work experience and got selected into the city-level hospital.” Lu Nanyong quickly changed the topic.

”Uncle, not necessarily. But there’s a chance.”

Lu Cheng smiled: ”A few days ago, Director Xiao privately hinted that the hospital leadership plans to give me a bit more responsibility.”

”Responsibility? What kind of responsibility?” Lu Nanyong peeled garlic and threw the peel into the fire pit.

”To lead patients into the operating room for emergency rescue surgeries along with other associate seniors, regularly conducting rescue surgeries.”

”The treatment and such will also improve a bit. It’s already starting this month, I’ve checked my surgical authorization.” Lu Cheng said.

”The procedures were completed just the day before.”

Lu Nanyong said: ”As long as the medical office and hospital have filed the records, if not, don’t mess around.”

”You know how bad the current medical environment is; you don’t need your uncle to lecture you, just watching the news you’ll see.”

”We don’t need to stir trouble.”

”But your exception, will others in your hospital do it? According to the current medical salary system, they’re giving you a raise?”

Lu Cheng responded: ”Uncle, it’s not just me with a raise, there’s an increase in workload. In terms of calculation, whether in our department or specialized departments, associate seniors can earn a bit more together.”

With more rescue surgeries, the associate seniors on duty in emergency, both in emergency department and on-duty doctors, can count more workload, which is performance.

Relatively speaking, patients benefit, hospitals gain reputation, it’s a win-win situation.

The reason Lu Cheng wasn’t given this authority earlier was because Xiao Zhaoxi didn’t want to make it public, to avoid problems.

Now, it can’t be hidden, Xiao Zhaoxi thought about transitioning calmly but couldn’t interfere with hospital leadership’s arrangements.

”That’s good.”

”You’re doing better and better, thinking about it, it’s your uncle being short-sighted.”

”If back then I had scolded you, maybe now?” Lu Nanyong laughed self-deprecatingly:

”Your uncle is just aging, the thinking is too rigid.”

Lu Nanjia chuckled: ”You’re not old either, you’re also doing it for Lu Cheng’s good.”

Lu Cheng also said: ”Uncle, I only chose after thorough consideration, I did carefully weigh your advice, it wasn’t a rash decision.”

”When everything is stable, if everything remains unchanged, the result will definitely be the same.”

”The change from orthopedics to emergency department isn’t big, I can endure the result, that’s why I found an opportunity.”

”Besides, Uncle, you also helped quite a lot during this.”

Lu Nanyong referred Lu Cheng to the old traditional Chinese medicine practitioner at Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital for manipulation techniques, which helped Lu Cheng open up in Long County People’s Hospital’s emergency department.

In the end, it forced orthopedic’s Xiang Kuihua to go outside and learn manipulation techniques!

”By the way, Xiao Lu, in your department now, you’re not the least experienced, right?” Lu Nanyong asked again.

”That’s right, my advantage is age, there are younger ones than me.”

”Of course, among intermediate titles, there are some slightly older than me. But they haven’t been to rural areas, emergency departments are favored in the hospital!”

”According to the current trend, I should have a chance to upgrade my title this year. It was originally supposed to be after five years.”

”Mm, that’s good, work hard.”

Lu Nanyong smiled faintly: ”Your ambition goes beyond the current, how much hardship it needs, only you can know.”

”Your uncle is just a little attending physician in the County Hospital, can’t help you anymore.”

”Really can’t help.” Lu Nanyong’s voice was slightly bitter.

When Lu Cheng was still in the orthopedics, he hoped to get opportunities by drinking with people; now, Lu Cheng was at State People’s Hospital, beyond what a small attending physician could affect.

At this moment, Lu Cheng’s phone rang.

Lu Cheng quickly said: ”Uncle, Dad, I have a call, let’s talk tonight or tomorrow.”

”Okay, answer it.”

”We’ll gather together when you come back, definitely have a drinking session with you,” Lu Nanyong said.
