System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Han Pingxiao quickly walked out of the operating room, his expression and complexion only slightly troubled, but his gaze towards Lu Cheng was filled with complexity.

Deng Duanniu, an old hand who had known Han Pingxiao for a long time, said, ”Did you two have some deep exchange in front of others inside?”

”Seems like you were the one being deeply exchanged with?”

A joke pulled Han Pingxiao from his daze back to reality. He continued to look Lu Cheng up and down, with a wry smile, and took over the topic, ”Brother Lu, I didn’t even react to what happened, and it was over just like that?”

Deng Duanniu’s mouth opened slightly as he clumsily began to look at the clothes of Lu Cheng and Han Pingxiao, seemingly finding nothing amiss.

Lu Cheng, meeting Deng Duanniu’s inquisitive gaze, scratched his chin, ”Brother Deng, your traction work was excellent!”

”Let’s wait and see the patient’s plain film results, it should’ve gone back into place.”

Lu Cheng was actually certain it had been repositioned, but the 0.8 Skill Points data bar could only be seen by himself, so he couldn’t say it too explicitly.

Real medical technology speaks to objective evidence, not just anyone’s experience can determine and alter objective facts.

Deng Duanniu understood that his guess was correct, Han Pingxiao left out a subject, almost leading him astray, ”Being able to reposition it manually is a good thing, indeed.”

”This couple probably doesn’t have much money, otherwise, during the process of joint dislocation repositioning, not many people would want to experience such pain so many times.”

Of course, Deng Duanniu was also smart, ”Speaking of which, you orthopedic folks have it good—hardly any emergency patients.”

Deng Duanniu was explaining to Lu Cheng why Han Pingxiao’s manual repositioning skill was average, because such dislocations, due to public awareness spread by social media, mostly got directed to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.

Han Pingxiao and others hadn’t had much exposure to joint dislocations, so naturally their techniques were a bit unpolished.

Han Pingxiao knew Deng Duanniu was trying to help him out of a tight spot, but he still honestly said, ”Brother Deng, this isn’t an issue of experience, it’s a matter of personal skill level, a matter of technique.”

”Brother Lu’s technique resembles the traditional repositioning techniques used by Chinese medicine practitioners.”

Lu Cheng said, ”Brother Han, I used to do trauma surgery training. In my training location, joint dislocations were managed by the trauma department, while orthopedics was considered a prestigious department, besides dislocations, they didn’t handle any emergencies.”

Han Pingxiao nodded, ”In our hospital, orthopedics is struggling, the volume of replacement patients is very low, mostly relying on other cases to sustain.”

”Anyway, thank you, Brother Lu, solving this situation perfectly is the best outcome, otherwise, it would get quite troublesome later on.”

While a failed repositioning certainly indicates surgery as a necessity, the patient has no money.

As doctors, we always want to dismiss patients in a way they find quite satisfactory.

Sparing some money is ideal, but more often than not, we can’t afford such compassion.

To save money, you must possess extraordinary skills to save within the general average level.

...

Getting the plain film done was quick, and in a dozen minutes, the patient returned with a sling supporting his forearm.

Han Pingxiao immediately checked the patient’s shoulder joint’s anteroposterior and lateral x-ray film. After reading it carefully, he could confirm that the joint dislocation had been corrected.

During the same time, he had already written up the procedure record, ”Lin Daomeng, you’re fairly lucky, though you went through several manual repositioning failures, the joint is now aligned.”

”The humeral head is now in the shoulder socket. After we’ve concluded the repositioning, we performed corresponding active and passive range of motion checks. Based on the current imaging data, we can confirm the repositioning was successful.”

”However, there are several key points to note: your dislocation is quite rare, so there is definitely soft tissue damage. It’s not settled once the reposition is successful.”

”After soft tissue is damaged, the chance of joint re-dislocation is high. You must immobilize and rest for some time, patiently awaiting the natural repair of the soft tissue.”

”Also, during the immobilization rest period, it’s best to buy a shoulder brace online and wear it, which can reduce the likelihood of another dislocation to some extent.”

Lin Daomeng and his wife remained silent, but looked implicitly in Lu Cheng’s direction, as if unless Lu Cheng spoke, they wouldn’t believe anything Han Pingxiao said.

”Did you hear that?” Receiving no response, Han Pingxiao put the printed medical records in front of the patient and emphasized again.

”Dr. Lu, should we buy it?” It seemed that Lin Daomeng’s financial situation was indeed tight.

Lu Cheng said, ”Yes, do buy it, Dr. Han is a professional orthopedic doctor. His advice is the best for you.”

”Braces aren’t expensive online.”

”Alright, Dr. Lu,” Lin Daomeng finally agreed.

Deng Duanniu looked at the computer screen without saying a word, and although Han Pingxiao’s expression was a bit dark, he didn’t have anything else to add.

In the State People’s Hospital, a hospital in a prefecture-level city, patients might look at your name before coming for a consultation, but after coming in, they’re more concerned about their experience.

If patients decide that Lu Cheng’s skills are better than Han Pingxiao’s, they’ll only listen to Lu Cheng, fearing they might be tricked by someone with lesser skills.

After a while, after Lin Daomeng signed confirming he understood the medical instructions, Han Pingxiao added, ”If there’s anything you’re unsure about, you can check this outpatient medical record; everything is clearly written on it.”
