System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

This is definitely not a ’business’ one can go solo in!

Except for mathematics.

After Lu Cheng and the others left, Ni Xixin and others noticed that Dai Linfang had a serious look in his eyes and was in deep thought.

Curiously, they asked, ”Dr. Dai, did you discover something?”

Dai Linfang said, ”No, no, just casually looking around. Dr. Ni, you take a look at whatever you like; don’t mind me.”

”I’m actually not very familiar with these topics, just following Dr. Ni to learn something new.”

Ni Xixin asked again, ”Dr. Dai, have you previously worked on large-scale liver topics?”

Dai Linfang replied professionally, ”The scope of the liver is too broad. Besides those specializing in tumors, not many in general surgery can completely avoid the liver as an organ to complete their research, right?”

”Leaving out the digestive function, its end-stage metabolic function alone makes any topic pay great attention to it.”

As Dai Linfang said this, he continued, ”However, I used to think that metabolism was a kind of digestive function, just digesting different things.”

”But the path I want to take is completely different from Brother Lu and the others.”

Dai Linfang’s tone was relatively introspective.

Mu Nanshu and Ni Xixin naturally noticed something was off with Dai Linfang, but only Xie Yuan’an asked, ”What’s different?”

”The liver and pancreas are both exocrine organs, and generally don’t directly contact digested substances.”

”But the liver has a different role. During metabolism, metabolic waste returns to the liver through the venous blood flow system.”

”The pancreas doesn’t have this metabolic capability.”

”If liver function is impaired, both digestive and metabolic functions will suffer. Previously, our idea was to go through external substitution,” Dai Linfang said, realizing he had digressed.

He quickly added, ”No worries, no worries, don’t listen to me rambling on, otherwise I’ll lead you astray again.”

Mu Nanshu is quite a professional researcher, having previously specialized in gastroenterology, so what Dai Linfang said touched upon her field of expertise.

”Currently, the treatment exploration for patients with impaired digestive function is aimed at improving the organ’s cellular structure through medication to enhance its exocrine or metabolic function.”

”What is this external substitute?”

Dai Linfang said, ”Digestive functions that can be corrected with medication usually have patients in a relatively compensatory state.”

”If it’s completely decompensated, no amount of stimulation will work. In such a case, without finding a substitute, transplantation is the only option. Personally, I don’t favor transplantation as a treatment.”

Mu Nanshu: ”Were you previously studying end-stage liver failure?”

”More or less,” Dai Linfang replied.

”But this path is too difficult; I can’t drag you all down with me.”

Xie Yuan’an asked, ”What results did you come up with earlier?”

Dai Linfang took a deep breath, retorting sarcastically to Xie Yuan’an, ”If I had results, would I still be standing here?”

Xie Yuan’an, feeling a bit hurt, stepped back two steps with a face turning pale and flush, her eyes showing a bit of grievance.

But considering she hadn’t been kind to Dai Linfang earlier, she couldn’t really complain.

Ni Xixin thought for a moment and asked, ”Dr. Dai, by any chance, were you considering something like mechanical ascension?”

Dai Linfang glanced at Ni Xixin and sighed, ”It was along those lines, but this path is very difficult to navigate.”

”Currently, for patients with liver failure or kidney failure, periodic dialysis is needed to eliminate metabolic waste.”

”But as I mentioned earlier, I believe metabolism is also a form of digestive function, so I was thinking if there could be a method to enhance part of the digestive function.”

”Then these patients might not be bogged down by regular dialysis.”

”The idea is good, but there’s no theoretical support, and I truly didn’t make any critical breakthroughs myself...”

Ni Xixin asked, ”Have you only been working on this? Never considered adjusting your projects?”

”Back then, I thought, if worst comes to worst, just move towards the worst-case scenario. After all, there’s a fallback.”

”And it turned out that way, but after I came here, I realized I couldn’t accept the worst-case scenario at all.”

”When I thought about it, the worst-case seemed bearable, but after arriving, I found the worst-case was really hard to bear.”

”So...”

Dai Linfang paused there and continued, ”Why are we talking about me again? Let’s talk about something else, Brother Lu’s Liver Preservation Surgery project is great.”

”Acute liver injury is a common emergency in general surgery, and the current treatment methods are all about cutting.”

”Whether it’s segmental resection or lobectomy, if cutting can be avoided, it’s always better for the patient, and it represents a major revolution in emergency surgeries.”

Ni Xixin, Mu Nanshu, Xie Yuan’an exchanged glances, their looks somewhat intriguing.

If what Dai Linfang said was true, then he was quite a big gambler, but he lost the bet.

And Dai Linfang’s personal ability is actually a bit extraordinary.

Lu Cheng and Zhang Xibei quickly returned from the market, and Lu Cheng was ready to demonstrate his Liver Suturing Technique to Ni Xixin and others without delay.

After watching, Ni Xixin found it fascinating, since it was pig liver with plenty of stock, and she wanted to try it herself.

Ni Xixin does animal testing, and individual operation in animal testing is quite important.

However, even with Lu Cheng’s patient teaching, Ni Xixin’s progress was still slow, outpaced by Zhang Xibei who had been learning for longer.
