Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 27: Chapter 27: The End Begins

Huang Wen also couldn’t explain to everyone why they needed to move to a location within 50 meters of the Genetic Store, so she simply invoked Yang Xiao, knowing that Yang Xiao now held high prestige in everyone’s hearts.

Some people followed Huang Wen’s advice, but still, a third of the people did not heed her, feeling there was no need to go through the trouble, as there was no food within fifty meters of the Genetic Store, so why bother moving back and forth?

Having heard Huang Wen, Xiao Zhe and Xu Hua rushed to see Yang Xiao.

”Yang Xiao, what exactly is going on? Why are you asking us to move near the Genetic Store?”

”Today is the sixth day of the catastrophe, and tomorrow will be the seventh day, which is the day that Gu Bo, the old man from the Genetic Store, said that Earth’s creatures will complete their genetic mutations. There’s something eerie about the fog today, and I’m worried that something unexpected might happen tomorrow. It’s better to have everyone close together so we can join forces in defense if an unexpected event occurs, right? Like yesterday’s Black Dog.”

Xiao Zhe nodded after listening, what Yang Xiao said made sense. In the face of a great disaster, their strength was inherently weak, and joining forces against the Mutated Creatures might be the way to survive.

”Additionally, I also heard from Gu Bo that Mutated Creatures do not dare to attack within fifty meters of the Genetic Store, which is a temporary safe haven for us humans. Alas, I was worried that with over a thousand people squeezing together, it would be too crowded, so I didn’t mention it. But I might as well do good all the way, you spread my words, and those willing to listen can move here; those who don’t, can do as they please.”

Xiao Zhe and Xu Hua nodded upon hearing this, and immediately went back to organize their teams to relocate, deliberately arranging their tents close to Yang Xiao and the others.

The whole afternoon was spent moving tents, with over a thousand people relocating within fifty meters of the Genetic Store. However, two to three hundred people still found it too crowded and did not take Yang Xiao’s words seriously, staying put.

The blue fog grew denser and showed no sign of dispersing. By evening, visibility within the thick fog had reduced to just tens of meters, triggering fear in everyone’s hearts, making them hesitant to wander outside.

Fortunately, that morning Yang Xiao had instructed Huang Wen and others to distribute the roasted dog meat, along with roasted sweet potatoes and water, allowing anyone who was hungry to eat their own food rather than sharing a large communal meal.

Had they stewed a pot of dog meat, it probably would’ve driven everyone around crazy with hunger.

Yang Xiao hid in his tent, devouring his share of the dog meat to the last bit, his body’s electrical current persisted for about an hour before gradually fading away.

However, other than feeling an increase in his strength and a heightened sensitivity of his senses, he could not find any other changes to his outward appearance.

Of course, an increase in strength was also a good thing. His current strength was probably more than ten times what it was before the mutation.

With over a thousand people gathered near the Genetic Store, the area was crowded with people, and Yang Xiao told Huang Wen and others to stay alert.

The fog continued to thicken by the evening.

Gu Bo came out holding a basin-sized lamp that emitted an orange glow, handing it to a Samurai at the door. The Samurai accepted the lamp and, with a leap, flew to the roof of the Genetic Store.

The seemingly cumbersome body of that Samurai moved with such ease that it was surprising, light as a bird.

The Samurai hung the lamp on a specially made pole on the roof, and the orange light instantly intensified.

The blue mist in the sky receded as it was illuminated by the orange glow, as if possessing sentience, automatically falling back.

The blue fog retreated one meter for every meter advanced by the orange light.

The orange light advanced one more meter, and the blue fog retreated another meter.

The blue fog retreated to fifty meters from the Genetic Store and stopped, and the orange light halted as well.

Those who witnessed this phenomenon were all amazed, filled with curiosity about the strange blue fog.

Soon, the night engulfed the entire field, and everyone went to sleep one after another.

The next morning, a piercing scream split the sky.

Following that, several screams pierced the air, and everyone was suddenly awakened, scrambling out of their tents.

When everyone had made it out, they were all stunned.

Fifty meters away, the blue mist had grown so thick it was like a tangible curtain hanging down from the sky, isolating the camp from the outside world.

Everyone stared blankly at this bizarre apocalyptic scene; the entire field was dead silent.

”What do we do, boss?”

Huang Wen tugged on Yang Xiao’s arm, her voice trembling.

”Everyone, stay calm and let’s watch for changes.”

It was at this moment that Gu Bo’s aged voice came from the Genetic Store behind them.

”Fellow survivors of Earth, today marks the seventh day of the catastrophic change. Besides humans, the majority of life forms have already completed their first phase of mutation. From now on, the thick fog outside may hide various Mutated Creatures, and they are full of aggressiveness.”

Everyone turned to Gu Bo’s voice and saw him standing on the rooftop of the Genetic Store, bathed in the orange light, looking like a deity.

Yang Xiao knew that Gu Bo and the Genetic Store were their hope for survival.

The crowd silently watched Gu Bo, listening to him continue explaining.

”Within 50 meters of the Genetic Store, Mutated Creatures dare not invade. However, if you want to survive, you will need to venture into the fog to kill these Mutated Creatures.

The Mutated Creatures you kill will be your source of food, and some of the killed Mutated Creatures will drop Genetic Fragments. Some Mutated Creatures might even drop Weapons.

You can sell me the Genetic Fragments and dropped Weapons; for every ten Genetic Fragments, I will synthesize a Genetic Potion for you. Drinking the Genetic Potion will enhance your Genetic Power, making you braver and stronger.

Of course, from now on, these Mutated Creatures are not something ordinary people can deal with. Even a mutated ant could kill you. Only those among you who have undergone physical mutations and possess Superpowers stand a chance against these Mutated Creatures. Therefore, before you venture into the fog, I advise you to be cautious.

As for Weapons dropped by the Mutated Creatures you kill, you can use them yourself, or you can sell the excess to me.

Another very important thing: the more Genetic Fragments you trade with me, the further the light on my rooftop can shine. Eventually, this place will become a small base that can accommodate your survival and development...”

Gu Bo spoke intermittently for over half an hour, and many were left in a daze, especially the girls, who were all in a state of panic.

If the previous sudden collapse of buildings and the destruction of the campus weren’t enough to make everyone feel the end of the world, then this time, the terrifying scene of being enveloped in the strange blue fog truly made everyone feel the real apocalypse.

After Gu Bo finished speaking, he floated down from the rooftop and walked into the Genetic Store.

The surrounding thousand-plus students were still somewhat dazed, and moments later, a girl burst into tears, followed by a wave of cries and wails.

Huang Wen, Chen Fei, Chen Lu, Feifei, and about thirty other girls looked at Yang Xiao.

”Don’t cry, please. I can’t handle it!”

Yang Xiao said.

”But boss, is it really the end of the world?”

Chen Fei asked.
