Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 9: Chapter 9 Had a Good Sleep

”You think a pack of cookies can make you our leader?”

Huang Wen was somewhat puzzled, unsure of what Yang Xiao was really aiming for.

”Two large packs of cookies, two bottles of water every day.”

Yang Xiao stated blandly.

”Deal!”

Huang Wen said as she grabbed the water and cookies out of Yang Xiao’s hand, tore them open immediately, and the girls around her crowded over in an instant.

Huang Wen hesitated for a moment, took out a cookie, and began to distribute them one by one.

A large box of cookies had more than thirty pieces, just about enough for everyone to have one each, with three pieces leftover in the box.

These girls had long been starving and began to chew vigorously as soon as they got their cookies.

Huang Wen then twisted open the water bottle, took a small sip, and passed it around to everyone; each person only took a small sip, and by the time the water bottle returned to Huang Wen, there was still about one-tenth left in it.

Yang Xiao watched and felt great appreciation for the self-discipline of these girls. Compared to Xiao Zhe’s group, these girls had well-managed their selfishness and greed, which would make it easier for them to get through tough times together.

From another perspective, it also proved that girls of average appearance might also possess kind hearts.

”Want some more?”

Yang Xiao asked blandly.

Huang Wen and the others could hardly believe their ears; had they met a real tycoon?

Everyone stared at Yang Xiao in amazement, utterly confused by his intentions. They truly had nothing on them; if Yang Xiao had so much food to waste, he could easily find another team or any of the pretty girls.

Nowadays, a pack of cookies and a bottle of water could win over most beauties.

Yang Xiao then took another box of cookies out of his backpack and handed it to Huang Wen.

Huang Wen took it and saw that it was a large pack of Oreo cookies, more tempting than the soda cookies before. This big box of Oreos contained four individually wrapped strips, each with ten cookies.

Huang Wen took it but did not immediately dig in, instead, she stared at Yang Xiao.

”What exactly are you up to? Spit it out.”

”Do you think I’m after your beauty?”

Yang Xiao said with a laugh.

”You?”

Huang Wen was at a loss for words. Normally, she would have cursed out loud or at least snapped back, but now, facing Yang Xiao, her big-hearted savior, she really had no temper.

”Eat up, but remember, from tomorrow on, just one pack in the morning and one in the afternoon. Even a landlord’s household doesn’t have surplus grain!”

Huang Wen smiled and no longer hesitated, tearing open the cookies and handed out three strips for everyone to share. After opening the fourth strip, she took out two Oreo cookies and kept the rest wrapped, handing it back to Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao was startled for a moment but then took back the strip of cookies.

Huang Wen’s message was clear: one for each person was just the right amount, and it was hard to fairly divide the few leftover under tough conditions. To maintain unity in the team, the best method was to be fair and just.

Unequal distribution is worse than scarcity!

After eating their Oreo cookies, everyone suddenly felt a sense of happiness!

Heaven really pitied them, for a Savior had descended!

”I’m not a Savior; I’m entering into a cooperative relationship with you. We’ll tentatively cooperate for 4 days. Within these four days, I will provide you with two bottles of water and two packets of biscuits each day. What you need to do is simple: stand guard while I rest and sleep, and don’t let anyone disturb me. If someone does, you must inform me in advance.”

Yang Xiao finally revealed his intention.

Huang Wen and the others were taken aback.

”Is that all it is?”

”Yes, it’s that simple. Also, don’t even think about stealing my food while I’m asleep. The food in my bag is only enough for the next four days. If our cooperation is pleasant, I can provide you with more food afterward.”

Yang Xiao was also wary that these women, driven mad by hunger, might do him harm, so he dangled a carrot in front of them in advance. He had a trump card, after all—a large box of food was still hidden in the drainage ditch.

He just handed out two packets of biscuits, partly out of pity for the girls and partly to showcase his strength, making them believe in him.

Besides, being their benefactor, surely they wouldn’t secretly harm him, right?

Yang Xiao was actually gambling, betting that these girls wouldn’t be as despicable as Xiao Zhe’s group. As long as they retained a kind heart, they wouldn’t conspire against him.

Huang Wen looked at Yang Xiao and nodded firmly.

”Don’t worry, for these four days, unless we’re all dead, nobody will lay a finger on you. Sisters, grab your weapons. Starting now, we’ll split into two shifts: one sleeping, one on guard duty. We must absolutely ensure his safety... Oh yes, what’s your name?”

”Heh, no need for formality. My name is Yang Xiao.”

”Alright, you can rest now.”

After speaking, Huang Wen pointed Yang Xiao to the best sleeping spot in the tent, a memory foam mattress salvaged from the ruins.

Yang Xiao had been sleeping on rocks for the past few days, hard and uncomfortable, causing aching back and loins. Now seeing the soft mattress, his heart was overjoyed, and he lay down without hesitation, using his backpack as a pillow.

The group of girls immediately picked up metal pipes and other weapons, starting their guard duty, while about ten girls went out to gather wood from nearby ruins to rekindle a roaring bonfire.

For them, the sudden emergence of hope sparked great excitement.

During the past three days in the mountains, Yang Xiao hadn’t slept well. At night, he would force his eyes open, always fearing some poisonous snake or centipede might crawl over and bite him.

Even during the daytime, he didn’t dare to relax completely, waking at the slightest sound to inspect his surroundings.

Now things were different; he had thirty girls standing guard around him, and he could finally sleep soundly.

As his mind relaxed, sleep came easily, and soon, Yang Xiao drifted into the land of dreams.

Huang Wen and the others circled the campfire; none felt sleepy. Yang Xiao’s sudden arrival had excited them deeply, giving them a glimpse of hope, albeit with a little less food to share—but still better than none at all.

When Yang Xiao woke up the next day, it was already past nine in the morning.

He opened his eyes, stretched lazily on the mattress, felt for the backpack under his pillow, and then got up.

Exiting the tent, he immediately saw Huang Wen and the thirty girls sitting there. As he rose, they all turned their gaze to him.

With the poor lighting the previous night, everyone could only see vague outlines, but now, in broad daylight, they noticed that Yang Xiao, though not very handsome, was quite presentable.

Especially so because Yang Xiao looked vibrant and full of life.

The group had been starving these past few days, while Yang Xiao alone had been eating well, and naturally, his complexion was better than the rest.

Upon seeing everyone watching him, Yang Xiao glanced over the crowd. Sure enough, not a single beauty, but some of the girls had decent figures, and a few also carried a certain air about them. There were only five or six who were truly ugly; the rest were simply plain-looking.

”Cough, good morning everyone!”
