Chapter 17: Chapter 17 Mutant

(please collect, recommend, tip, thank you for all your support!)

Today is the fourth day since the catastrophe, and several people in Xiao Zhe’s team have started showing signs of mutation. They begin to feel unusual in their bodies, gaining strength, and experiencing changes in vision, hearing, and smell. Additionally, various parts of their bodies have undergone atypical changes.

Xiao Zhe felt the same, he sensed something was off last night. After dinner today, he felt an electric current surging inside him, which momentarily frightened him. He quietly hid in the camp, waiting for the current to dissipate.

The electric current lasted for over ten minutes before it disappeared. Then, he suddenly realized that his fingers had become thick, sharp, and his skin had darkened, somewhat resembling wolf claws.

”What’s happening?”

Xiao Zhe casually picked up a broken brick from the ground and squeezed it hard. With a ”snap,” the brick immediately fractured into several pieces.

”Mutated?”

Xiao Zhe also discovered that the mutation in his fingers seemed to be controllable at will. After several attempts, he could skillfully control the mutation of his fingers, instantly transforming them into powerful wolf claws.

Xiao Zhe took a deep breath of cold air, and his heart began to feel somewhat excited.

According to Gu Bo, not only other creatures will mutate, humans will also undergo mutations. The results and speeds of mutations vary for each individual.

In future, humans must fight mutated creatures, and their only reliance would be their own mutations and genetic evolution.

”That youngster Yang Xiao suddenly became incredibly brave, he must have undergone a mutation, huh, don’t tell me he’s the only one who can mutate? Now even your dad has mutated, who’s to say who is stronger or weaker.”

The sudden mutation excited Xiao Zhe initially, but then he also began to become more calm and rational.

To increase his odds against Yang Xiao, Xiao Zhe decided to call off tonight’s raiding operation, wanting to wait until his mutation is complete to see what he finally becomes and what combat power he possesses. Only then would he have the confidence to confront Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao even threatened him boastfully today, claiming he could take Xiao Zhe’s life anytime, relying solely on his mutant ability, right?

He didn’t want to be killed by Yang Xiao just as he began to mutate; wouldn’t that be too unjust?

Xiao Zhe summoned the core members of the team and issued an order to cancel tonight’s attack.

As a result, someone stepped forward to oppose.

Xu Hua, a third-year student from the College of Electronic Computing, who is also the vice president of the student council along with Xiao Zhe, joined Xiao Zhe’s team later with several brothers.

Xu Hua stepped forward and mocked:

”Xiao Zhe, are you scared by that lad Yang Xiao? You need to understand, he is just one person, and we have more than one hundred and fifty people, with more than a hundred men. Yet, we still let that lad kill three of our brothers, and now you don’t even have a countermeasure, isn’t that a joke to others?”

”Yeah, if we don’t deal with Yang Xiao, our team will probably be looked down upon. Right now, everyone is lacking food, only we have the most stocked up. Many people have been eyeing us already, just that they didn’t dare to act. Now seeing us this weak, they might not have any more concerns.”

Another boy chimed in.

Xiao Zhe glanced at Xu Hua and said indifferently:

”Xu Hua, what do you mean? Are you questioning my decision, or do you think you qualify to be the boss?”

Now that Xiao Zhe possessed a mutated body, his confidence had greatly increased, and naturally, his tone of voice was full of conviction. Previously, he had been somewhat tolerant towards Xu Hua and others, but now he didn’t care at all.

Xu Hua was taken aback upon hearing this; Xiao Zhe suddenly became so assertive. However, Xu Hua had started to mutate since yesterday, noticing that his skin had turned bronze, and his strength had at least doubled.

Both harbored reliance on their own strengths, and naturally, neither looked up to the other.

Xu Hua sneered:

”Xiao Zhe, being a boss isn’t as weak and feeble as you. Unable to even handle Yang Xiao., and you still have the face to be our boss? We tolerated you before, but I’ve decided not to anymore today. Just step down from the position of boss yourself. I won’t make it hard for you; you can continue to stay in the team, but from now on, you’ll have to follow my orders.”

Xu Hua believed that with his mutated abilities, defeating Xiao Zhe should not be a problem.

Little did he know, Xiao Zhe scoffed and said:

”Who do you think you are to be worthy!”

”Hehe, Xiao Zhe, now in the apocalypse, worthiness is determined by one’s own abilities.”

After Xu Hua spoke, his body trembled, and his skin instantly turned bronze. Even he was somewhat surprised as the shade deepened from his mutation yesterday.

Xu Hua held a two-meter-long steel pipe in both hands, looking proudly at Xiao Zhe.

Several dozen companions gathered around watching, all quite shocked, not knowing what was going with Xu Hua. They each felt a bit of panic inside and involuntarily took a few steps back.

”You mutated?”

Xiao Zhe was stunned, clearly not expecting Xu Hua to have undergone a mutation, but being a mutant himself, he was not too panicked and chuckled lightly, saying:

”Hehe, Xu Hua, I didn’t expect you to have mutated. No wonder you dare challenge me. By the way, what kind of mutation it is? Do you have any special abilities?”

Xu Hua laughed loudly and said:

”Xiao Zhe, let me show you so that you willingly step down from the boss’s position.”

After speaking, Xu Hua glanced around, didn’t find anything suitable for a demonstration, then turned his gaze to the steel pipe he was holding. He held the pipe at chest level and suddenly shouted loudly, applying force with both hands, and the steel pipe slowly bent into a U-shape in his hands.

Ah!

People around were incredibly surprised.

The pipe, typically used for the school’s water supply, was very strong and normally impossible to bend.

Now that Xu Hua could bend it using just his hands, one could imagine his great strength.

Xu Hua threw the bent steel pipe to the ground, looking proudly at Xiao Zhe, then said to a companion holding a wooden stick, ”Come, let me show you, hit my head with a stick.”

The boy with the stick hesitated,

”Xu bro, this, I dare not!”

”Stop the nonsense! If I say hit, you hit, come!”

The boy, holding a stick as thick as an arm, hesitated,

”Xu bro, this isn’t a joke.”

”Damn it, stop blabbering and just do it!”

Eager to demonstrate his mutated body’s capabilities and to deeply intimidate everyone, Xu Hua was capitalizing his role as the boss.

”Alright, Xu bro, I’ll go easy.”

The boy said, raising the stick, aiming lightly at Xu Hua’s head, but hardly making a forceful impact.

Xu Hua, irritated, scolded,

”Coward!”

grabbed the stick, and fiercely slammed it onto his own head.

”Crack!”

A crisp sound. The stick as thick as an arm broke into two pieces, while Xu Hua’s head remained unharmed.

Xu Hua laughed loudly.

”Xiao Zhe, how about it? Are you wholly convinced? We don’t have to wait until tonight. I’m going to slaughter that kid Yang Xiao next. I doubt anyone will dare undervalue our team from now on.”
