Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Tycoon with Beef Jerky

Yang Xiao chuckled with a greeting, surrounded by 30 women, he certainly didn’t want to make the atmosphere too serious.

Huang Wen and the others managed a forced smile and said:

”Good morning! Did you sleep well last night?”

”Uh-huh, very well, thank you all.”

This thank you from Yang Xiao was truly heartfelt.

”It’s nothing, it’s what we should do.”

Huang Wen said, while Chen Fei and the others beside her were actually getting anxious, thinking, get to the point, we’re starving, hurry up and give us biscuits and water, quickly!

Seeing the hunger in everyone’s eyes, Yang Xiao understood, took off his backpack, unzipped it, and handed Huang Wen a bottle of water and a large pack of Oreo biscuits.

Everyone’s eyes suddenly lit up.

Huang Wen said thank you, handed out the biscuits to everyone, took a small sip of water, and passed the bottle to the person next to her.

Yang Xiao sat down and took out a bottle of water for himself, gulping down half of it, leaving everyone else itching for a drink.

Their biscuits were quickly finished.

Yang Xiao made a playful gesture, took out a pack of salt-baked chicken wings, and started munching away on his own. After finishing one pack, he didn’t stop; he took out a sausage, finished the sausage, and then took out a pack of beef jerky.

Huang Wen and the others watched, drooling, their stomachs spasming involuntarily. They had barely filled a dental gap with one biscuit, yet Yang Xiao ate and drank heartily in front of everyone. Didn’t this guy consider how huge everyone else’s psychological shadows were?

There were even girls thinking that just for a chicken leg, it wouldn’t matter if they spent a night with Yang Xiao.

Finally, Yang Xiao sensed that something was off. He heard the rumbling of everyone’s stomachs, so he looked up, swept his gaze over everyone, and ultimately his heart softened. He sighed and handed the pack of beef jerky, that he had only eaten a few pieces of, to Huang Wen.

Huang Wen didn’t hesitate to take it, but she felt mixed emotions.

”According to yesterday’s agreement, this pack of beef jerky is an extra perk, it won’t be available every day, so you all need to be prepared,” Yang Xiao said indifferently.

Leaving Huang Wen and the others awkwardly expressing their thanks over and over.

Yang Xiao turned and walked into his tent, casually saying:

”No one is allowed to disturb me for half an hour.”

At this moment, a current of electricity was produced in his body, and he needed to sit on the bed and wait for the current to slow down and disappear.

Yang Xiao mostly understood by now that this electric current in his body was accelerating the mutation of his body, and every time the current appeared, his body was relatively weak and needed protection.

Huang Wen and everyone each tore off a small piece of beef jerky, chewing it slowly in their mouths.

Beef jerky is high in protein, a small piece provides much more nutrition than biscuits. Many girls put the beef jerky in their mouths and held it like a candy, not willing to chew and swallow.

Half an hour later, the electric current in Yang Xiao’s body disappeared, and he felt that his Strength had increased a bit.

Today was the fourth day after the catastrophe.

Yang Xiao checked his backpack, which still contained more than a dozen packs of biscuits, more than a dozen packs of chicken legs, beef jerky, and eight bottles of water – enough for him to eat by himself. Even if he shared some with Huang Wen and the others, there would be no problem.

Yang Xiao had been hiding in the mountains before, and now living together with Huang Wen and the others, he had a closer experience of their hardships, which still made him somewhat sad.

No matter how heartless he tried to be, the thought of watching these vibrant lives fall before his eyes was ultimately more than he could bear.

Yang Xiao came out and sat down opposite everyone.

At this moment, everyone had a very good impression of Yang Xiao, and they all wished for a man to become their leader, to guide them through the unknown and frightening years to come.

”Do you all just plan to sit here and wait to die?”

Yang Xiao asked.

Huang Wen and the others were taken aback and said,

”Now we can no longer find food inside the academy, and we girls have less courage and strength, we can’t compete with the boys. The store ruins that had food have now been divided up by several teams, not allowing others to come near and scavenge.”

”Shouldn’t the academy’s cafeteria have a cold storage?”

”The academy’s cafeteria was cleared out two days ago, all the frozen meat inside was divided among people.”

Yang Xiao, having always had enough food, was too lazy to rack his brains for food. Now, he was purely trying to help these helpless girls find a way, to look for ideas.

Now it seems that all the supermarkets, shops, including restaurant cafeterias’ ruins were cleared out, or directly occupied by some teams. Huang Wen and the other helpless girls had no chance of snatching food from them.

Yang Xiao sighed,

”Seems like we can only wait to die... Hmm, think about it, are there any farmers around the academy who might have planted some vegetables?”

”All the vegetables planted by farmers within 5 kilometers have been swept clean, moreover, we dare not wander too far from the academy. It’s said that many places now have mutated creatures, some students said they saw a black dog, over one-meter tall, like a calf, that bit a student to death with one bite.”

Yang Xiao felt a chill in his heart upon hearing this, it seems that the creatures around really are mutating.

”There are also strange fish in Biyun Mountain Pond that are three to four meters long, just yesterday one dragged a student into the water and bit them to death, we saw it with our own eyes.”

A girl added.

Yang Xiao had been hiding halfway up the mountain these past few days and knew too little about what was happening around.

A tall girl suddenly stood up and said,

”I know where there is food.”

Everyone turned their heads towards her,

”Where?”

”Right by the Biyun Mountain Pond, some families used to live there, but they moved away later on. They planted taro there back in the day, I saw the scattered taros near the pond yesterday, and they looked to be growing well. I was going to bring it up yesterday, but I got scared by that strange fish and forgot, lucky that Brother Yang Xiao reminded me just now.”

Taro, this kind of plant, as long as it isn’t dug up, will produce each year, and grow more and more. Just throw a taro and if the environment is suitable, in three to five years, there will be a large patch of taro.

Yang Xiao’s face went through an awkward expression, cleared his throat, and said,

”I am a freshman this year, not your Brother; I’m your junior.”

Huang Wen and the others were first startled, then burst into laughter, a girl teased,

”Didn’t you say you wanted to be our boss yesterday? Naturally, you’re the Brother, haha!”

The atmosphere ignited unwittingly.

Yang Xiao suddenly realized, if you want to be someone’s boss, it’s probably better to be older, otherwise, it’s a bit embarrassing.

Yang Xiao looked at the tall girl and asked,

”Are you sure you saw the taro?”

”Of course, I’m a native of Dawn City, I often came here for outings during high school, I’m quite familiar with the surroundings of Biyun Mountain.”

”Well then, we can try to dig up these taros, so you all can have enough to eat.”

Yang Xiao said.

Huang Wen and Chen Fei hesitated for a moment, expressing doubt,

”But, there’s a water monster in the pond, we saw with our own eyes a student being dragged into the water and bitten to death by it yesterday.”

”Are the taros in the water or on the shore?”

Yang Xiao looked at the tall girl, whose name was Chen Lu.

Chen Lu said,

”There are some in the water, and some on the shore, more in the water I guess.”
