Chapter 339: Chapter 186 Surprise! First Legendary Profession Panel Prompt! (Two in One Mega Chapter)_2

Indeed, as early as half a month ago, Magis had noticed something was amiss with the situation at the base.

Normally, within the span of half a month, he would certainly have received some form of communication from the base, whether good news or bad. But in any case, there should have been some news!

But now, the problem was that after such a long time, there had been no message from the base at all.

This initially left him extremely puzzled!

After waiting several more days, he knew for certain that something had happened at the base!

Therefore, Magis immediately dispatched his most trusted confidant to check on the base— the abandoned mine in the “Wild Wolf Hills” in Meister County.

However, the situation report upon his confidant’s return made his heart skip a beat!

According to his confidant, the old mine where the base was located had collapsed significantly, and judging from the traces of gunpowder at the entrance of the passage, it was clearly man-made, and not due to an earthquake or natural decay from aging.

Additionally, the several deliberately hidden traces of battle found nearby the mine further confirmed this.

In other words, his organization’s base in Meister County had been secretly and completely annihilated.

Could it have been done by the Empire after its discovery, deploying people from a special unit?

This truly left Magis on tenterhooks for several days!

But several days later, he noticed that the upper echelons of Meister County were very quiet, and no particular news had come through, which confused him. That isn’t right!

If it were a specialized operation by the Empire, then conventionally, after the base was taken out, a great purge would follow. Nobles, great families, merchant associations, and all connected to his organization in the county town would be rooted out!

Of course, he would not be spared in this process either.

But now, it didn’t seem like it was the work of any Imperial special unit!

What was going on?

While Magis did think of that young upstart Knight, Rein, in his mind, Rein was at best someone with the strength of a veteran Knight and had no powerful companions. How could he possibly be involved in the total annihilation of the base?

Thus, Magis began to have all his informants conduct investigations, but so far, they had never found the perpetrator!

At the same time, in this month, he also faced questioning from two barons, Alonso and Norman, who doubted the credibility of their rebel organization, questioning how they could fail to deal with even a young upstart Knight!

He knew that this was not acceptable.

If both men disseminated unreliable information about the resistance in noble circles within Meister County, his organization’s operations throughout Mingster County would lack the support of certain potential nobles.

It can be said that the future actions of the entire organization in Meister County would encounter significant obstacles, and he, as a key liaison, could not shirk responsibility!

Therefore, three days ago, he had sent out a call for help to those above.

Magis hoped that higher-ups would dispatch a powerful person to Mingster County to take charge and swiftly reverse this unfavorable situation.

As he estimated, someone should arrive within these few days.

At that moment, there came a knock on the door, interrupting Magis’s train of thought.

“My lord, Baron Alonso has arrived!”

“How has he come again?” Magis said, his face showing a headache as he received the report from his confidant.

Obviously, he couldn’t refuse a meeting and could only nod and say, “Fine, let him come over. It couldn’t be about that Rein again! Damn it!”

These past few days, he had specifically tasked someone with investigating Rein’s situation. Although Rein’s resume showed the young man was very promising and talented, he did not stand out much in the entire Meister Province.

Furthermore, such an unestablished youth was always vulnerable.

Magis was very confident in his own organization. Once the person from above arrived, if they could find this Rein and deal with him, it ought to be an easy task!

After all, the former person in charge of the original base was a Peak Knight. This time, after the incident, the organization would most likely send a Great Knight-level expert to take over.

However, the latest intel suggested that this Rein had recently been absent from the county town, having gone to other places.

His most trusted confidant was now gathering information through various channels, trying to figure out where exactly the other party had gone.

Magis thought this way: even if they had not yet eliminated this youth, at least when Alonso and Norman asked, he would have a response. After all, with Rein not currently in Mingster County, there was nothing he could do, right?

In that case, the others would not be too upset after listening to him. After all, he was making progress on the matter, or else he would not know that Rein was not in the county town, right?

But annoyingly, to this moment no information had come back regarding “where exactly Rein had gone,” which left him quite passive in face of Alonso’s questioning.

Shortly, a familiar figure with a large stride entered the room. It was the bearded man wearing a black nobles’ hunting suit with gold-thread inlays, none other than Baron Alonso himself.

Seeing Alonso enter, Magis immediately stood up, and with a smile brimming on his face, he said, “The honorable Baron Alonso, if you seek me, just send me a word, and I should have come to visit you.”

Since he hadn’t managed to handle the task entrusted by the other party, Magis had to lower his posture a bit.
