Chapter 320: 181

Half a day, huh.

If I didn’t hide my incompetence, it seems like half an hour?

Rein pondered for a moment, then shook his head again.

What does more time mean? The most important thing is to truly learn something.

“Rein, I’m going to release the tube worms now, pay attention to the sea surface, and soon the crazed nearshore fishes will come, and there is a high probability of more than one!”

“Their favorite food is these tube worms.” Bask reminded as the plan was set into motion.

Rein nodded and began to fully concentrate on watching the sea surface, getting ready.

Seeing this, Bask immediately threw the snake-like tube worm into the sea about four to five meters in front of them.

The moment the tube worm hit the water, it began to struggle violently.

Seeming to smell the scent emitted by the tube worm, Rein sharply observed several ripples forming on the sea surface tens of meters away.

Three to four fishes, roughly thirty centimeters to half a meter in size, moved towards the tube worm as fast as torpedoes.

As these fishes approached, Rein noticed that these fish, named crazed nearshore fishes, had a pale blue body with brown circular spots, a row of spiny fins on their back, and large mouths full of sharp teeth.

The creatures ferociously pounced as soon as they saw the tube worm twisting its body in the water.

In just a few moments, the tube worm was torn apart and devoured.

Although Rein hadn’t yet entered the water to make a kill, from observing from the shore for a few seconds, he judged that this third training task—’hunting crazed nearshore fish’—was more than twice as difficult as the first task, ’cutting seaweed.’

It’s no wonder that those seven or eight young people, although they arrived earlier than myself, seemed to be stuck at this stage.

The biggest difference compared to the seaweed is that, although the seaweed drifted unpredictably under the influence of the undercurrents in the seawater, it still followed certain patterns.

The drifting process of a seaweed was like a swinging pendulum.

If a person could grasp the moment when the pendulum swings to its highest point front and back and swing their sword, it would make cutting the seaweed relatively easy.

But these crazed nearshore fishes were different. With bodies shaped like shuttles, their streamlined forms allowed them to move through the water at high speeds.

This was akin to upgrading from a fixed target practice to a moving target practice!

Of course, the specifics would only be known after actually making a kill.

Rein, dressed in sharkskin, drew his Dual-Handed Greatsword and started to wade into the water.

Seeing Rein about to enter the water, Bask warned, “Rein, these fishes are also called ’ironhead fishes’ by the locals, their heads are as hard as iron shells. Be careful of their rush and bite.”

“Thank you.” Rein nodded, acknowledging the advice.

Rein took a deep breath, activated the Inner Breathing Technique, and began to step into the sea.

As he was submerged by the seawater, the chilling water squeezed in from all directions.

Huh?

Rein found that the sharkskin, which was slightly bulky on land, did not hinder his movements in the water, apparently due to the special surface structure of the sharkskin, which itself had the effect of reducing water resistance.

Coming to the vicinity of the crazed nearshore fishes still lingering around the remnants of the tube worm, Rein raised the Glimmering Greatsword, executed ’Limit Break,’ and instantly aimed a Smooth Cleaving Slash at one of the crazed nearshore fishes!

Having been trained in ’cutting seaweed,’ Rein had already gained an initial understanding of exerting force underwater.

Thus, the sword landed solidly on the body of the crazed nearshore fish.

The body of the crazed nearshore fish was immediately torn open, and dark red blood oozed out.

At the same time, Rein’s expression subtly changed!

He felt like he was chopping through layers of thick cowhide, a sensation that transmitted from the greatsword to his hands.

The defensive power of the creature was incredibly strong!

His strike had not managed to kill it outright.

Just when Rein thought he might have startled the creature into fleeing, the crazed nearshore fish, unexpectedly attacked from nowhere, quickly turned its body and charged at Rein, evidently counterattacking.

This was significantly different from the typical behavior of most animals.

Normally, animals would first flee after being suddenly attacked, then observe the attacker, before deciding whether to counterattack.

But true to its name, the crazed nearshore fish retaliated immediately after being attacked, paying no heed to the strength of its attacker.

However, this also delighted Rein, as he was initially worried that his sword strike, failing to kill the crazed nearshore fish, would lead it to flee.

Since Rein had just seen the speed of the crazed nearshore fish swimming in the water, he knew it was faster than a horse’s gallop.

Just as the crazed nearshore fish was about to reach Rein, it flicked its tail fin forcefully, suddenly increasing its speed, causing Rein’s second sword strike to barely miss the fish’s body.

The crazed nearshore fish took the opportunity to violently bite Rein, but with the sharkskin’s protection, Rein only felt a tug and suffered no harm. Experience more tales on empire

Indeed, for Rein, even letting the crazed nearshore fish bite him probably wouldn’t have mattered, because the level 3 Iron Skin defensive power was even stronger than the sharkskin, so he was not worried.

After several exchanges, Rein’s attacks were almost entirely ineffective.

However, Rein soon identified the problem; the currents created by the high-speed movement of these fishes in the water were significantly disrupting the accuracy of his greatsword slashes.
