Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 2069: Chapter 2071: Time Will Settle Everything

It’s better to be late than never to have shown up; this saying applies both to people and to emotions, making one’s heart uneasy.

Cheng Su turned her head to look at Qi Taiguo and nodded.

”I should feel happy, almost unreal, as if dreaming.” Cheng Su said, ”In my past life, I was never found, but now...”

Everything has changed.

”Taiguo, Little Cheng Su has been found. She’s now five, her character still forming. She’ll live in the Cheng family’s large household, surrounded by love, unlike in her past life: lonely, uneasy, lacking a sense of security.” Cheng Su’s voice gradually dimmed, her gaze a bit lost.

”What are you trying to say?” Qi Taiguo held her hand.

”A person’s environment will decide their character and life path. Now, Little Cheng Su’s life is about to transform, so all her past experiences and even thoughts will change. Perhaps, there will be no ’me’ anymore...” Cheng Su’s gaze was deep.

Qi Taiguo’s heart trembled, his grip tightened, holding her hand, ”What nonsense are you talking about? You’re right here, how can there be no you?”

”But...”

”Different life, different experiences, that’s true. But have you considered that perhaps your return is what caused all this to happen, what turned everything around.” Qi Taiguo said solemnly, ”One life ends, a new one begins, hence the concept of reincarnation, which makes the past life void. You and Little Cheng Su are two separate individuals, merely having once shared the same body and mind.”

Cheng Su froze.

”Then why did I come back? Without her, how can there be me?”

”But without you, there’s no her either.” Qi Taiguo said, ”The ways of the universe are magical; don’t get caught up or you’ll be stuck. Just hold on to the fact that you and Little Cheng Su are two independent entities.”

Cheng Su pursed her lips, rested her head on his shoulder, and gently closed her eyes.

”I’m afraid I’ll disappear, like in the past, eventually becoming nothing.” That was her only worry.

”We’ll all disappear, turn into dust, but not now, only when we’re old and grey. Have you forgotten the wager?” Qi Taiguo said warmly, ”By then, whether it’s you, me, or anyone else, we’ll all become dust.”

Is that so?

But why does she always feel that everything is illusory, like Zhuang Zhou dreaming of a butterfly, the butterfly dreaming of Zhuang Zhou; perhaps, that’s just it.

”Susu, time will witness everything; things you can’t comprehend or decipher, leave them to time, which will make everything clear to us. Don’t hurry, wait calmly. Someday, you will understand.”

Qi Taiguo’s voice, low and kind, slowly settled Cheng Su’s stirred heart.

Trust in time, leave it to time, wait for time.

It will eventually settle everything.

”I understand.” Cheng Su lifted her head, revealing a smile.

Qi Taiguo gently gave her a head pat and said, ”Don’t cry, you still have to talk to the old man later!” As he spoke, he reached out to wipe away her tears.

There was a knock on the door.

Cheng Yaozu twisted the knob, peering in, ”You are indeed here; what are you hiding from?”

”She’s just excited.” Qi Taiguo replied.

The child he fostered is of the Cheng family’s blood, how could he not be excited?

Cheng Yaozu said, ”Don’t get too excited; the old man is eager to bring Little Cheng Su back, come with me for a trip!”

The ”you” referred to Cheng Su; since she was the child’s foster parent and familiar with the orphanage.
