Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 2057: Chapter 2059: Preferential Treatment

Cheng Su and Qi Taiguo returned home and tidied up, then both started missing their son again, so they turned towards the Cheng family, only to be told that Old Master Cheng was ill.

Cheng Suxin was shocked. The old man was in his seventies, so this illness was no small matter. She asked Sister-in-law Cheng what caused this sudden illness while following her to the old man’s bedroom.

At this moment, Old Master Cheng was lying on a large bed, the quilt pulled up to his chest, eyes closed. Beside him, an IV bottle hung from a stand, his face appearing withered.

Upon hearing the noise, Old Master Cheng opened his eyes. Seeing Cheng Su and her husband, he smiled: ”Why are you two here?”

Cheng Su walked over and sat down, saying, ”If we hadn’t come, how would we know you were ill? Did you sneak a drink again?”

She held his other hand. The skin on an elderly person’s hand is much wrinkled, feeling layered with folds, evoking a certain sadness.

Listening to Cheng Su’s mock angry tone, noticing the worry in her eyes, warmth filled Old Master Cheng’s heart, and he said with a smile: ”Old people like me are close to the grave. It’s normal to be ill. Elderly illnesses are common. Don’t worry too much.”

”Did the weather change with autumn coming, causing a chill?” Qi Taiguo asked.

”No, no, it’s just an elderly illness, don’t worry, I’ll be better in a couple of days!” Old Master Cheng waved his hand.

”Alright, just rest peacefully and don’t get agitated, otherwise you’ll say you can’t catch your breath.” Cheng Su adjusted his quilt higher and checked the IV drip, murmuring quietly.

Warmth surged in Old Master Cheng’s eyes.

Qi Taiguo noticed her gentle and delicate actions, clearly seeing the concern in her eyes, and could not help but silently sigh.

Though both were elders, Cheng Su’s patience and attention could not be seen with Mother Qi.

It’s not that Cheng Su didn’t care for Mother Qi. After marrying into the family, she gave all the respect due. Even to Father Qi, she was quite patient and never spoke ill of him, instead often thinking of him, because Father Qi never had a harsh word for her.

Cheng Su, in everything she did, practiced empathy, treating others as they treated her.

And Mother Qi?

Thinking of his mother’s actions, her suspicions and behind-the-scenes disdain, Qi Taiguo felt his face burn.

Even the non-blood-related members of the Cheng family were more considerate and caring of her than Mother Qi was, treating her as one of their own. Shouldn’t the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law also share a close bond? Yet...

The human heart can tell good from bad, sincerity from insincerity.

No wonder she treated them differently.

By now, Qi Taiguo no longer compelled Cheng Su. She had already contributed much for their family. Why demand she force a smile?

She wouldn’t openly clash with his mother, and surely would uphold the responsibilities of a daughter-in-law, but as for heartfelt closeness, he shouldn’t expect it—just maintain outward appearances.

This thought lingered, leaving him with a sense of regret, really!

Cheng Su chatted with Old Master Cheng for a while. Seeing his fatigue, she helped him lie down again. Once he fell asleep, she and Qi Taiguo left the room.

Outside the door, Qi Xiaoqi stood waiting. Seeing his parents emerge, he bowed slightly to greet them.

Qi Taiguo picked him up and said, ”The old man is ill, you’ll come home with us today, alright?”

Qi Xiaoqi looked at Cheng Su and said, ”I know why the old man is sick!”
