Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 2064: Chapter 2066: In Life, You Only Need to Get One or Two Things Right

Father Qi said he wants to go back to his hometown and is not planning to settle in Guangcheng with Qi Taiguo and the others. This really surprised Cheng Su, especially since her mother-in-law didn’t object. Could it be that after this ordeal, they’re scared?

However, she didn’t say anything. She was the daughter-in-law; it wasn’t impossible for her in-laws to settle with them in Guangcheng. She could buy another house, living on different floors or in the same community.

If they live in different cities, she wouldn’t shirk the obligation of support.

If she couldn’t manage well or provide care, she’d hire a nanny. There’s nothing money can’t solve.

Qi Taiguo felt a bit stuffy and deliberately went downstairs with his old father for a casual walk—and a father-son talk.

He took out a cigarette from his pocket, handed it to his father, lit it for him, then lit one for himself, saying, ”Dad, reconsider about returning home, would you?”

He wasn’t trying to pretend to be persuasive. It’s just that now, all brothers and sisters have grown up and have their own families. He, Cheng Su, and Xiao Qi would settle in Guangcheng, and his elder sister would likely settle in Qing City, too.

As for the two younger brothers and sisters, they are about to graduate and start another life, moving forward in their youthful prime, a time to struggle. It’s impossible for them to return to the countryside.

Parents have just the four of them as siblings; now each of them has their own life and choices. If the parents return to their hometown, they will face loneliness and solitude together.

This made Qi Taiguo feel a bit distressed.

”We can’t live in the hometown long-term, and if you and Mom have any illness, we wouldn’t be able to care for you. It’s too troublesome,” Qi Taiguo said.

”Your mom and I are only in our sixties, still young. What kind of illness could we have? At most, just some colds, solved by taking a couple of pills. This big city might be bustling, but the air isn’t as good as in the countryside, and the life here is unfamiliar. Honestly, I still prefer my hometown,” Father Qi said with a laugh.

”But we’re so far away...”

Father Qi interrupted him, ”Young people are meant to strive without being held back by the elderly. If you care for us, visit a little more often; that would make us content.”

Qi Taiguo said, ”Dad, is your decision because of Mom’s uneasy relationship with Cheng Su?”

”What kind of words are those? Are you questioning your dad or suggesting something wrong with your wife?” Father Qi glared, looking a bit angry.

Qi Taiguo quickly said, ”Dad, I didn’t mean there’s anything wrong with Cheng Su. Just thinking, don’t make it difficult for yourselves. Even living here, we don’t have to live together; we can buy another house. Being close makes it easier to care for you.”

”Son, your mom and I don’t want to hold you back. We’re not at the stage where we can’t move yet. When we’re indeed besieged by illnesses and need you to care for us, we’ll come over then,” Father Qi said, patting his shoulder. ”Also, don’t think poorly of your wife. Honestly, I feel I’ve done two right things in my life. The first was sending you to join the army, and the second was ’selling’ you to arrange the marriage with the Cheng family and have Cheng Su become our daughter-in-law.”

”Dad...” Qi Taiguo’s voice was slightly choked.

”A person who can do one or two right things in life is successful. I feel very successful, very gratified,” Father Qi said. ”So, there’s no need to persuade; my decision with your mom to return home is definite.”
