The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Is This Also Elders’ Concern?_1

Alfred Garland saw everything through the rearview mirror, nearly losing his grip on the steering wheel.

”Goddamn it, Amadeus has no shame at all. How can he tell such blatant lies without batting an eye? Doesn’t he feel guilty?”

”Are you pinning Ms. Quinlan against the car and calling it a brother’s concern for his sister?”

”You’re obviously flirting with her!”

He thought this to himself but didn’t dare to say it out loud, stealing glances at the two in the rearview mirror non-stop.

Nathalie Quinlan was taken aback for a moment, a flicker of doubt crossing her eyes. Was this supposed to be the concern of an elder for a younger one?

While she was still pondering this, Amadeus Yancey leaned back, withdrawing the arm he had used to pin her, acting as if nothing had happened. He lazily reclined in his seat, his elegant hand resting on his knee, the Buddhist beads wound around his wrist lending an unique charm.

He patted the seat beside him and said to the girl who hadn’t yet reacted, ”Come here, sit properly.”

That voice, lazy and deep, was seductive.

The oppressive feeling on Nathalie Quinlan had vanished, and the restlessness in her heart had also subsided quite a bit. She sat up straight and just then heard him say.

”The school also made a call to your brother and grandfather. They know about your arm getting hurt today. Your brother will be back later, and your grandfather isn’t well, so we’ll see whom he sends over.”

Nathalie Quinlan momentarily forgot what had just happened. Her dark eyes looked at him, the corners filled with defiant air and a mix of irritation and helplessness in facing such a situation: ”It’s just a scraped arm, there’s no need to make such a big deal out of it.”

She had often been injured in the past, and without her saying anything, Jeff Quinlan and the others would never notice.

Even if they did occasionally notice, at most they would ask her a few questions, asking where she had been running wild, worried that she would get into a fight and bring shame to the Quinlan family.

They never really cared whether her injuries were serious or whether she needed to see a doctor.

In the entire family, only Aunt Cagwin would secretly bring medicinal liquor to her room at night to apply to her wounds, gently advising her, saying she was a girl and needed to be careful while playing, so as not to injure herself and risk scarring that would look bad when she wore dresses when she grew up, and so on.

Amadeus Yancey’s eyelids were lowered, and he appeared serene and dignified. Nathalie Quinlan didn’t notice the bloodthirst lingering in the depths of his eyes: ”You should say it’s lucky that it was only a scrape on your arm this time, that the fallen steel pipe didn’t actually hit you. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have ended so easily today.”

Nathalie Quinlan: ...

She couldn’t understand. Was this also the concern of an elder?

She felt that his form of concern and Audrick Zachmann’s concern were somewhat different. As for where they differed, she couldn’t quite pinpoint.

It just felt different.

Seeing that she was frowning and not talking, Amadeus thought she was still worried about the situation getting out of hand and narrowing his eyes, he said to her, ”You almost got killed in No. 1 Middle School, and this can’t be swept under the rug. Just watch, No. 1 Middle School must give you an explanation, and the person responsible must be caught. Without finding that person, not only will your grandfather be restless, but I won’t be at ease either.”

Nathalie Quinlan: ”Actually, I have a rough idea of who it might be. I just don’t have the final evidence, so I’m not certain yet.”

Ghania Quinlan’s sudden decision today to speak up for the culprit, asking the school not to investigate further, already made the situation seem peculiar.

Seeing a strand of her short hair slide down, Amadeus considerately tucked it behind her ear before withdrawing his hand. His posture was relaxed yet his presence was commanding: ”Evidence, if one is determined to find it, will be uncovered sooner or later.”

”The headmaster of your school is a smart man. He will do everything in his power to get to the bottom of this. Otherwise, the school will have to shoulder the blame on behalf of the person behind all this!”

Professor Zachmann from Tsinghua University is about to give lectures at No. 1 Middle School, adding prestige to the school. The school wouldn’t risk offending her father for the sake of a student.
