Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 178: Chapter 89 Mind Pulse

The grenade, which was already pulled and damaged, slowly rolled into the workspace.

The few people who saw this scene quickly reacted, all rolling to the ground behind the sturdy equipment inside the workspace.

However, there was no cover next to the two Patrol Team members standing by the door.

One of the team members reacted swiftly, directly kicking the grenade back out through the door gap.

It hit the door of the workspace, closing it again and holding it shut tightly.

The explosion of the grenade, accompanied by the shockwave that slightly opened the door, triggered the piercing alarm bells echoing simultaneously throughout the Administration Building.

After the shock of the explosion, the two Patrol Team members immediately opened the workspace door again

and prepared to counterattack using the door as a shield.

Being attacked in such a place within the Administration Building, not counterattacking and finding a way out could very likely lead to a slow death.

But as soon as they opened the door and saw several bodies on the ground, including their own people and unfamiliar outsiders,

they were forced back by bullets firing from the other end of the corridor and explosives thrown from around the corner.

The successive explosions of explosives and bullets ricocheting in the cramped space made the underground environment of the Administration Building even more chaotic.

Fortunately, the protective gear they were wearing was quite comprehensive and of excellent quality, allowing them to retreat safely and close the workspace door again.

The two team members quickly checked themselves and their nearby comrades, couldn’t help but curse, ”Damn it, has the Administration gotten to this point? The military is coming to our home to kill us directly?”

The factory director, hiding with Old Wu, suddenly pulled a handgun equipped with an automatic locking system that he had spent a lot of money on, from Old Wu’s waist.

He also handed the Patrol Team member in front a gun similar to Old Wu’s that he carried with him, along with a dagger sheathed in a futuristic metal scabbard.

”Take these, guard the door.”

”Yes!”

The factory director retreated back to cover, took out the terminal, tapped a few times, and said, ”If we continue staying here, it’s bound to be a problem sooner or later. We must go to a safer place.”

Old Wu was not optimistic about the factory director’s idea, saying, ”Even the basement of the Administration Building has been attacked, where is safe in the whole building?”

The factory director knew Old Wu’s words were correct, his brows furrowing more tightly as he switched to a map of the upper floors of the Administration Building on the terminal.

In the whole Administration, probably only the director’s office can be considered the safest place.

But before he could voice this thought, Chen Ming suddenly said, ”I feel nowhere is safe right now.”

”Do you remember the workspace door has an electronic lock, if it’s locked, you have to either scan a Maintenance staff’s ID code to get in or open it directly with admin rights.”

”Otherwise, you’d have to rely on hacking skills to crack it, but as soon as there was a disturbance outside, the door opened immediately.”

”The speed of cracking shouldn’t be that fast, right? Unless the Administration’s network security is really that bad.”

The factory director, who had been on the Space Station for many years and had some understanding of the Administration Building’s security system, said, ”That’s unlikely, are you implying there’s an insider within the Administration, either management or someone from our Maintenance team?”

Chen Ming neither confirmed nor denied, just said, ”I’m just speculating.”

”No matter what the truth is, it doesn’t make much difference where we go.”

”We can’t guard against insiders, and we can’t guard against hackers who can directly hack into the Administration.”

”So before figuring out who the problem is, this place might actually be safer.”

The factory director hesitated and said, ”But if we don’t get out, we’ll be caught like fish in a barrel sooner or later. We have no retreat.”

”No, the alarm has already sounded, the guards in the building have surely started moving.”

”The current situation is a double-decker sandwich, we’re trapped on the inside, the military is trapped in the middle.”

”As long as we can hold out, they’ll have more trouble.”

Old Wu also supported Chen Ming’s idea and said, ”Yes, we only have five people now, can you still rush through those people outside?”

The factory director was silent for a while, then sighed and said, ”Yeah, we really can’t rush out, I was too anxious, lost my train of thought.”

”But now the communication signal is also blocked, there’s no way to determine how long we’ll have to hold out until the upper guards come down.”

Chen Ming didn’t particularly mind the signal being blocked.

”It’s not a big problem, this was expected, they’ve used it before.”

”If the communication wasn’t cut now, I’d suspect they have some conspiracy to carry out using the network.”

”The only thing I didn’t expect was they’d dare to take action directly at the Administration.”

Old Wu suddenly darted from behind the cover where the factory director was to Chen Ming’s side and said, ”Xiao Mu, how did you become so important to them?”

Chen Ming didn’t pay attention to Old Wu’s movement, casually holding a case from the workbench in his arms and starting to pry it open with a tool.

At the same time, he replied, ”Didn’t I tell you before? When we talked with the factory director about Dusk and the military before, didn’t I tell you about this?”

The factory director casually chimed in from the side, ”Yeah, I reported this earlier too.”

”But that’s just not possible.”

”Not possible?”

Chen Ming kept his hands busy and said, ”Let me do the math.”
