Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 158: Chapter 84: A Series of Unexpected Events, the Final Illusion of Practice

Old Wu hurriedly explained upon hearing Chen Ming’s question, ”I do know him.”

”And then?”

”That’s it, I just know him, that’s all.”

”I knew him back when I was in the intelligence business. I know he’s a person of Luder Zuo Jing, and he’s always just been using Zuo Jing’s name to make money, occasionally providing Zuo Jing with some intelligence.”

”I have no other interactions with him.”

Chen Ming suddenly recalled past events, saying, ”I remember you hadn’t even looked at the specific intelligence on that pirate before claiming the pirate was connected to Zuo Jing.”

”Yes, I knew that pirate was closely connected with him, but I really don’t know about other matters.”

”This person, back when I knew him, was very afraid of death, so there’s no reason for him to personally get involved in such things for Zuo Jing. I also want to know why he’d be so fed up to engage in a terrorist attack.”

Chen Ming stared at Old Wu’s face for a few seconds, choosing to believe him.

Because in doing so, the issue that Chen Ming had been agonizing over was indeed resolved.

Which is why the Pirate Leader’s most hated target wasn’t him and his boss, but this person.

Obviously, he gave the Pirate Leader false intelligence, leading him to attack the convoy transporting goods to the boss’s colony.

Which then summoned the boss’s revenge, which involved sending Chen Ming over to bring him back.

The mustached man had dealings with Old Wu, and Old Wu had worked at the maintenance plant for many years.

This indicates the mustached man had been in the intelligence business for years too, and making such a fundamental error in intelligence should not have happened.

This was a deliberate trap for the Pirate Leader.

Though the exact reason why the mustached man did this is unknown, it’s probably related to this terrorist attack.

Perhaps he was worried that the Pirate Leader knew things he shouldn’t, leading to a fatal consequence.

Of course, this is just Chen Ming’s guess, and the exact situation probably needs to be asked to the person involved to know, but they’re all dead, so questioning this serves no purpose.

It’s just a pity that yesterday, if Chen Ming hadn’t refused Old Wu’s suggestion to meet the local intelligence dealer, he could have met him sooner.

Who knows, maybe Chen Ming could have shot him right then and there, fulfilling the Delusion Stone’s hallucination requirement.

But who could have thought of that...

Wait a minute.

Chen Ming suddenly froze; isn’t this right now the best chance to kill the mustached man?

Everyone present had fallen due to the Mind Pulse; the terrorists only cared about blowing up the spaceship, and the mustached man chose to hide among the crowd to conceal himself.

As long as Chen Ming followed his memory of where the mustached man just stood, killing him shouldn’t be too hard.

Chen Ming’s hand reached to his waist, pressing on the heavily modified pistol he had.

He slowly slid the gun out of its holster, disabling the safety lock.

He prepared to move once the shockwave from the explosion subsided.

But unexpected events followed immediately.

Just as the bomb exploded from the terrorist that had been shot by the only guard left standing.

Among the remaining three Luder Zuo Jing terrorists, another one was killed by the explosion triggered by his companion.

The Zuo Jing terrorists probably had something like a heart rate monitor installed on them, which was connected to the bomb.

When they died and their heartbeat stopped, the bomb would be detonated.

Thus, a second explosion occurred.

This explosion happened even closer to Chen Ming; a fierce shockwave blew past the support pillar Chen Ming was leaning against, with more debris and body fragments continually hitting behind him.

After the shockwave passed, Chen Ming cautiously peeked out and noticed cracks forming on several of the nearest supporting columns impacted by the explosion.

The ceiling also looked shaky, and several surrounding exhibition halls might collapse at any moment.

Simultaneously, an even worse situation unfolded with the second explosion.

The exhibition hall lost power.

The first explosion shattered part of the internal lighting equipment in the exhibition hall, but not all. Some lighting equipment survived, providing illumination to the exhibition hall.

But now, after the power outage, the exhibition hall was plunged into complete darkness.

Only the light from the recently risen star outside allowed a faint view of the exhibition hall’s interior.

Chen Ming took a moment to adjust.

He suddenly noticed that the power outage didn’t just affect the lighting system; all the cameras in every corner of the exhibition hall had stopped working.

Moreover, it seemed to have stopped working before the power outage, as if it had shut down when the Mind Pulse occurred.

In such public areas, even if the cameras shared the same circuit as general lighting systems, they should theoretically have a power outage detection device to activate when necessary.

But now there’s none, and Chen Ming estimated this must be due to Zuo Jing’s people.

There should be Zuo Jing’s people inside the exhibition hall too.

The footage of the current scene might also be erased later, no wonder the mustached man dared to come personally to execute the terrorist attack mission.

However, this situation with the surveillance might not be that bad for Chen Ming.

At the very least, if Zuo Jing deletes the recordings, they’d also erase the record of Chen Ming being completely unaffected by the Mind Pulse.

It would also cover what Chen Ming planned to do next.

As the shockwave from the second explosion was about to end, Chen Ming slightly oriented himself within the darkened exhibition hall, preparing to move.

But accidents often come one after another.
