Chapter 347: Li Jiacheng

Holding the little boy as he sobbed with a hoarse, choked voice, Lin Zifeng’s heart, as hard as iron, also couldn’t help but soften.

After all, it was him who had saved the little boy, but his parents had died in a car accident, which was indeed a misfortune. Any child would find it hard to accept this reality.

A child without parents suffers immensely.

Take Lin Zifeng himself, for example, his parents had disappeared five years ago, and to this day, he still didn’t know if they were still alive in this world. Every time the night was quiet, he would even sneak away to wipe away the tears due to missing his parents. After all, every child is raised by their parents; what child would willingly be an orphan? And which child wouldn’t want to sweet-talk and seek affection from their parents?

Seeing the little boy’s entire face wet with tears, especially the helplessness and genuine emotions he expressed when he cried, even Su Ni was moved to tears.

Driven by a natural maternal instinct, Su Ni embraced the little boy, holding him fondly in her arms, comforting him, kissing him, trying to make him feel that there was still much love in the world, even though his parents were gone.

The little boy’s uncle, upon witnessing this scene, was also in tears, uncontrollably thanking Lin Zifeng repeatedly, and he recounted the little boy’s life story to him in detail.

Now that the little boy’s parents were gone, his fortunes were temporarily being managed by his uncle. Seeing how sincere the uncle spoke and his expressions were, Lin Zifeng felt reassured to let the little boy leave with his uncle for the United States.

As they were leaving, the little boy didn’t forget to hug his neck again, saying that he would return in ten years to repay him.

Of course! Lin Zifeng merely listened casually to what a child said; who knew what today would look like in ten years.

What Lin Zifeng didn’t expect was that today, ten years later, would find him at the lowest point of his life...

”Ah, what a lovely little boy, how could his fate be so tragic?” Su Ni shook her head and sighed deeply, the tear stains around her lips seemingly still unwiped. Her beautiful eyes lingered on the direction the little boy had gone.

The little boy was supposed to go to the United States with his uncle a few days ago, but he insisted on seeing the person who saved him that day before leaving. Unable to resist his persistence, they had searched for a long time before finding Su Ni, who then contacted Lin Zifeng through a phone call.

Now, even though they had met, it left the little boy with endless thoughts.

”Yes, fate is sometimes very unpredictable. We hold half of our destiny in our hands, while the other half is in the hands of God,” Lin Zifeng said, gazing in the direction the little boy had gone. He spoke these words unconsciously.

Huh? How did this guy suddenly reveal so much sadness?

By then, Su Ni gradually withdrew her gaze from the direction the little boy had gone and, seeing Lin Zifeng’s melancholic face, couldn’t help but start to wonder.

Could it be that this guy had also experienced great ups and downs? Or had a tragic event happened to him as well?

In the end, Su Ni shook her head; she absolutely couldn’t believe anything significant had happened before to this guy. Judging from his demeanor, he looked like a typical street ruffian. At most, he had been beaten up to look like a pig’s head in the past. Not worth sympathizing with, no. Not worth sympathizing with.

”Hey, what are you muttering about?” Su Ni waved her little hand in front of him.

Lin Zifeng simply turned his head to glance at her and didn’t speak. He eventually pulled out a cigarette to calm his emotions, and chuckled, ”Nothing, nothing. It’s just that this kid is so pitiful. Seeing him so young without parents, I can’t bear it; it’s definitely going to harm his growth. I’m worried it might affect his future development.”

”Wow! I can’t believe it; didn’t expect you to bother with such concerns! You haven’t even settled your own issues, and you still have the mind to worry about someone else’s family? Do you know who that little boy’s parents were?” Su Ni asked, arms crossed, her expression a mix of curious and amused.

”I don’t know,” Lin Zifeng shook his head.

”His parents were among the top ten wealthiest in Singapore! And his name is Li Jiacheng.”

”Li Jiacheng?” Lin Zifeng thought the name sounded a bit weird. Jiacheng? How much ’cheng’?

”Forget it, forget it, it’s useless telling you all this anyway. Oh, you can go back now.” Su Ni waved him away with furrowed brows, clearly meaning to shoo him off.

”Hey, hey, hey! You can’t just play me like that, can you? You call me here, and then tell me to leave just like that? You really don’t take me seriously, do you?”

Seeing that she was seriously about to sweep him out the door, Lin Zifeng suddenly felt annoyed. Was he mere straw to them? To come and go as they please without even offering to pay for his travel expenses?

”So what do you want then? Are you planning to stay and have some tea in the station before you leave?” Su Ni said irritably.

”Heh, I’ll pass on the tea. Um, about that, I have the taxi fare from when I came here. Can you, you know, reimburse me for it?” Lin Zifeng hurriedly pulled a crumpled fare receipt from his pocket and presented it to Su Ni.

Su Ni’s face instantly turned pale.

Staring with her beautiful eyes and agape with her cherry lips, she was speechless for a long while. Pointing at herself with her fair arm, she exclaimed in shock, ”Me? I’m to reimburse your travel expenses?”

”Yeah.” This guy wore an innocent expression, smiling happily while anticipating how much money she would give him.

Su Ni was so angry that her chest almost quivered.

What kind of world is this? What kind of people are these?

She’s supposed to reimburse his taxi fare? Did he get his head caught in a door this morning or was he kicked by a donkey?

”Are you, are you sick?”

Su Ni was so angry she could barely speak.

”Nope.”

”Then why are you asking me to reimburse your taxi fare?”

”Hey? Officer Su, you can’t say that. It was you who insisted I come. If you’re not going to pay my travel expenses, at least you should reimburse my taxi fare, right?”

Seeing he was at a disadvantage alone, he deliberately stretched his neck and started making a ruckus loudly towards the two police officers approaching from not far away. That put Su Ni in a spot where she seemed like someone who wouldn’t pay back money she owed.

”You! You! Fine, I’ll pay you, just stop yelling!” Su Ni was brimming with anger, but right at the station’s entrance and in front of her colleagues, she was reluctant to make a scene. She casually gave him a hundred or so dollars to get rid of Lin Zifeng.

Then, she hurriedly ran up to the second floor of the station.

”Dad! You saw everything just now. Considering that guy who loves small advantages so much, how could he be the suspect we’re considering? Are we just being paranoid?”

At this moment, a middle-aged man stood on the second floor of the station, clad in a distinguished police uniform, his tall and sturdy stature emitting an aura of a veteran officer.

He had been watching Lin Zifeng’s actions from above but did not expect Lin Zifeng had noticed him. That’s why he came up with a plan to purposely ask Su Ni for money, so that his image would gradually seem less significant in their eyes.

After all, being on the police radar was not a pleasant predicament.
