Chapter 304: I’ll Treat, You Pay

”Boss, are you talking to me?” Lin Zifeng stared incredulously, first pointing at Nangong Bing, then towards the door, starting to feel jittery.

”Who else could I be talking to here but you and me?” Nangong Bing shot him an annoyed glance, then her slender, graceful fingers caressed the head of ’Handsome Guy’, lying on the ground, panting heavily with his tongue out.

Seeing the person outside the door was Lin Zifeng, Handsome Guy’s fur bristled all over, but thankfully, under Nangong Bing’s gentle touch, he seemed to understand human emotions, turning his head aside and not even sparing this guy a glance with his doggy eyes.

”You! Were you really talking to me just now?” Lin Zifeng still couldn’t believe his ears, wondering if he had misheard. What kind of luck was he having today? This ice-cold woman was actually initiating conversation with him? And smiling at him too? It was unbelievable...

”Wait, wait, wait... Boss, do you have something you want to tell me today? Or is there something you need from me?” Lin Zifeng gestured with his hands, signaling Nangong Bing not to speak, ”Hold on, Boss, let me guess first, see if I can grasp even a little bit of your thoughts.”

”Lin, are you asking for a beating?” Nangong Bing’s round beautiful eyes glared at him fiercely again.

This glare was no big deal, but it really messed up something in Lin Zifeng’s mind.

Backing away, Lin Zifeng thought: Holy moly! What’s up with this woman today? First, she asked me to accompany her to a women’s private club, and now the moment I walk through the door, she smiles at me? Could it be she has some sinister motive? Oh no! Has she, after spending time together, started to develop feelings for me? No, no, no! Impossible, even if she did develop feelings, it wouldn’t come out of the blue like this, and even if she liked me, she’d at least give me some mental preparation.

This guy was completely lost in his delusions...

”What are you thinking about? Come on, come over here,” Nangong Bing still with a smile, beckoned Lin Zifeng over, ”What are you standing there for, come here.”

”Ah, ah! Go over there?” This suddenly got Lin Zifeng’s imagination running wild. Normally, even if he fawned over her, Nangong Bing wouldn’t offer even a tiny smile, and today, unprovoked, she was actually smiling at me?

”Um, Boss, is there anything uncomfortable in your heart? If there’s any knot you can’t untie, rest assured, I, Lin Zifeng, am your punching bag. You can beat me to death if you like, but, but can you stop smiling at me like that? It... it scares me...”

”...”

Nangong Bing was completely defeated by him...

Nangong Bing pursed her lips, her eyebrows slightly furrowed and eyes full of emotion as she scrutinized Lin Zifeng, her eyes as bright as the autumn moon, ”I’m telling you, Lin, are you courting death? I haven’t scolded or hit you for a few days, and you start feeling itchy all over? Give you some color and you think you can open a dye workshop? Some sunshine, and you think it’s brilliant? Fine! From now on, auntie here will scold you every time I see you, until you are utterly obedient.”

”Er... If you put it that way, I’m even more scared. Okay, Madam, just speak, what do you really want? Just say it outright, why make it feel all gloomy and uncomfortable?”

Lin Zifeng leaned against the door frame, his arms tightly crossed, feeling that Nangong Bing had been a bit off these past few days. Exactly where she was off, he couldn’t recall, but he just felt that starting from today, she seemed really keen to chat with him, even liking to take him out to see the world, which made him, who was used to being scolded and hit by Nangong Bing, feel even more uneasy.

If she were a bit colder to him, he could perhaps accept it as usual, since from their first meeting it seemed like they had been constantly at odds, but now her sudden change of heart really gave Lin Zifeng goosebumps.

”Let me tell you, Lin, were you just born this annoying? Without a couple of scoldings, do you start feeling uncomfortable?” Nangong Bingxue stared into his eyes, her demeanor teasing.

”You really don’t need anything from me?” For the safety of himself and his third leg, Lin Zifeng thought it best to confirm once more.

”...”

Nangong Bing was speechless at this unbelievable guy, and waving her wrist, she simply stopped dealing with him and buried her head in playing with Handsome Guy.

Seeing Nangong Bing ignoring him, his nervous heart finally began to settle.

However, he soon thought, Wait a minute? Did the old master take the wrong medicine today? Normally when she comes home, she always seems to avoid me inadvertently, so why is she so enthusiastic today?

Even if Lin Zifeng racked his brain, he probably couldn’t guess what was on Nangong Bing’s mind.

Sometimes people’s views on emotions, thoughts, and psychology can be very strange. If it wasn’t for that ambiguous incident that happened one night a while ago, Nangong Bing might not have changed slightly, only she herself was unaware of it.

”Boss, this pug looks like a lump of crap, and you’re playing with it? Aren’t you afraid it will dirty you?” Lin Zifeng, with a cigarette hanging from his lips, approached Handsome Guy, his demeanor relaxed and laid-back.

Before Lin Zifeng had finished speaking, Handsome Guy’s ears suddenly perked up, his eyes, big as Tang Yuan balls, swiftly swept towards Lin Zifeng, seemingly understanding human speech. His look even carried a hint of disdain.

”Yah ho! You’re glaring at me?” Lin Zifeng exclaimed.

”What’s the matter with you? Are you, a grown man, really picking a fight with a mastiff? Don’t you find that embarrassing?” Nangong Bing deeply glared at him, unsure how to even describe this guy.

”No, I mean, Bingbing, this meatball actually glared at me...” Lin Zifeng pointed at the handsome guy and explained.

”Roar...!”

But who knew that just as Lin Zifeng finished speaking, the handsome guy suddenly lost his temper! As soon as he heard Lin Zifeng call him a meatball, the guy instantly swung his arrogantly unruffled head around and fiercely roared at Lin Zifeng, causing a majesty that only the Beast King could emanate to reverberate through the entire villa, even startling the few mangy dogs sleeping outside the gate, making them yelp and scurry away with their tails between their legs.

...

It took a full five seconds before Lin Zifeng and Nangong Bing snapped out of their shock.

But right after the handsome guy had finished his angry roar, he instantly turned timid, shook his snowy white fur, and without paying any heed to them, headed straight for the kitchen, his cool departure looking even more dramatic than a human’s!

”It, it, this is...?” Seeing the handsome guy blow up and then turn timid, Nangong Bing gestured with her delicate hand.

Lin Zifeng was also completely startled by the handsome guy. He hadn’t expected that when this guy lost his temper, it wasn’t just about his imposing body, his single roar had scared the birds and animals outside the villa into a frenzied escape.

”This dog is quite interesting, not bad at all.” Lin Zifeng sat cross-legged on the couch, one hand stroking his chin, gaze intently following the direction the handsome guy left.

”What are you thinking of doing? He is Tangtang’s lifeline, you’re not planning some crazy scheme, are you?”

Nangong Bing suddenly stood up, somewhat agitated, fearing that Lin might really stir up some trouble. If Tangtang ends up crying and searching for her, she was worried she wouldn’t be able to explain herself.

”I’m not doing anything, what could I be doing, heh heh, boss, you haven’t had dinner yet, have you? How about we go out to eat tonight?” Lin Zifeng said with a face full of ingratiating smiles, almost blurting out ’your servant is here’.

”Are you buying dinner?” Nangong Bing’s playful beautiful eyes mischievously stared at him.

She thought if she could just slightly alter her temper, perhaps Lin Zifeng wasn’t as bad as she imagined. Just as she was about to elevate his glorious image, eagerly expecting him to assertively say: I’ll buy dinner.

But Lin Zifeng cheerfully chuckled and said, ”No problem, I’ll buy dinner, you pay for it!”

Just when Nangong Bing was about to pull rank as the Queen, her stunningly beautiful face suddenly turned cold...

...

Half an hour later, the two of them, along with the handsome guy, appeared in a private room of a luxury hotel, looking at a menu full of a variety of specialties, Lin Zifeng stared wide-eyed and screamed in astonishment.

This immediately attracted a series of disdainful glances from the handsome guy.

”Have you decided what to order? If you’ve decided, let’s get the waiter to serve the dishes,” said Nangong Bing, sitting across from him, exuding an elegant and regal demeanor.

”Boss, aren’t these dishes a bit too expensive? People like us can’t afford such luxuries, just an ordinary meal here probably costs as much as my monthly salary!” Lin Zifeng exclaimed.

”Look at you, don’t you have any ambition at all?” If they were in a public place, Nangong Bing would definitely pretend not to know him; he was just too disappointing.

Picky even when there’s food available.

”You know, Lin Zifeng, I don’t think you’re like this at all. Why do you act so nonchalant every day? Don’t you get tired of idling about? With your capabilities, if you really wanted to climb up even a bit higher, or just try a little harder, wouldn’t you achieve more than what you have now?”

”Oh? Where’s this coming from, boss? What kind of person am I?” Lin Zifeng looked at her with interest.

”I mean, if you’d put in just a little more effort instead of idling and flirting around, with your abilities, you should be living better than you are now,” Nangong Bing tried to even out her tone as she spoke.

”Am I not living well now? I have an easy job, a beautiful and charming boss, and my life is fully secured. Isn’t that enough? Many men dream of achieving what I have, but they can’t even get it in their dreams.”

”Lin Zifeng, can’t you be serious for once? I’m talking about something important. Can’t you stop joking around? With such competitive pressure in society, don’t you think about your future? Sure, you’re young now, but what about later? When you’re old, what will you do? Who will you rely on when you have nothing?” Seeing Lin Zifeng’s indifferent attitude, Nangong Bing felt like she was preaching to the deaf.
