Chapter 344: Collecting Salary

”Oh, you’ve become shy after not seeing you for a few days? How come I didn’t notice this when you were at my place the other day? You even let someone give you a hand.” At this moment, Mu Yang was like a little housewife, gazing affectionately at Lin Zifeng, absolutely gentle.

Uh... Lin Zifeng was a bit stunned. What’s going on here? This is the company, after all. If this woman does something outrageous to him here, and if Nangong Bing finds out, wouldn’t she skin him alive?

”That, have you collected your salary yet?” Lin Zifeng scratched his head, trying to shift Mu Yang’s attention.

”I don’t need to collect my salary,” said Mu Yang casually.

”Then, since Mu Yang has collected her salary, I won’t disturb you anymore. I still haven’t collected my salary. If I don’t go now, I’m afraid there won’t even be a hair left of it.” While speaking, Lin Zifeng was ready to make an excuse to run to the Finance Department.

”Hey, no need to rush away.” Mu Yang grabbed the hem of Lin Zifeng’s clothes with a smile, displaying the coyness of a resentful wife, and said sweetly, ”If you’re free tonight, come to my place for dinner.”

”Uh, is that really okay?” Lin Zifeng stuttered, his face changing color.

”What? Do you think the food I cook isn’t tasty?” Mu Yang pushed out her chest and tilted her head coyly, pursing her cherry lips and making small gestures at Lin Zifeng.

Damn! Has this woman gone crazy from longing for a man?

It’s only been a few days since they last ate together, and not many days had passed since that dinner. Now she was already planning to invite him over again? Just thinking about dinner made Lin Zifeng’s mind uncontrollably return to the events of that night, stirring a sense of eagerness within him.

But then he thought better of it; he already had a wife now, and who knows what the future with Nangong Bing might hold. If something were to happen with Mu Yang now, it would probably be very difficult to clear up their relationship later.

”No, no. How could the food made by Manager Mu not be delicious?” Lin Zifeng said, grinning from ear to ear.

”You’ve got to come tonight, okay?” Mu Yang still seemed reluctant to let him go, leaning close to his side, the faint smoky scent emanating from his body was quite enchanting.

”Is that really a good idea?” Lin Zifeng always felt there was some hidden meaning in Mu Yang’s words from last time.

And considering last time, after all the fuss, he still didn’t get what he wanted in the end. Instead, they had to resort to using their mouths, which left Lin Zifeng feeling rather unsatisfied. If he went tonight, who knew what crazy ideas Mu Yang might come up with to handle him, leaving him in a limbo—it’s a bad deal he definitely wouldn’t fall for again.

”What’s the matter? Don’t you want to, or do you just not feel like coming?” Mu Yang narrowed her eyes, pretending to be somewhat angry. She put her hands on her hips and pouted her lips while she started to act spoiled with him.

”I, I have a wife, you know. Going once or twice is fine, but constantly popping over to your place every other day, if my wife finds out she’ll go to war with me for sure.”

Dragging Mu Yang to a secluded corner, Lin Zifeng tried to explain with all the patience and earnestness he could muster.

After the last incident, he was convinced Mu Yang wasn’t interested in him; he understood that the pressure of modern white-collar life was immense, and it was common for women to find a man to satisfy their physical needs. Thus, when Mu Yang invited him over again, he felt that once or twice was acceptable, but feared that frequent visits might lead to complications. If things got out of hand, it could become impossible to dissolve this unfortunate affair—better to end things swiftly than suffer long-term pain. He thought it best to outright refuse. After all, it wasn’t the first time he had told her he was a married man.

”I know you have a wife. It was just concern between colleagues that made me invite you for dinner. Don’t get the wrong idea,” Mu Yang said coolly, pushing away Lin Zifeng, who was trying to make contact with his chest, with an icy expression.

She wanted willingness, not a one-sided outcome, and she could see through Lin Zifeng’s double meanings right away.

”Uh, heh, so that’s how it is. You scared me there, Manager Mu, I thought you were trying to trick me into going to your place again.” While speaking, he wiped the sweat from his forehead with his palm, looking genuinely relieved.

That left Mu Yang feeling bitter inside. She interrogated herself—was she not proactive enough, not good enough for him? Was he really so oblivious, not understanding a girl’s heart at all? She had been so forward with her invitation, and after what had happened last time at her place, didn’t he feel any responsibility? Was his conscience truly so hard?

At that moment, a sourness rose in Mu Yang’s heart; doubt over Lin Zifeng’s elusive wife followed suit. Time hadn’t been short since he joined the company, and though she had heard about his wife, she had never seen her. Could she be more beautiful than Mu Yang? Better than her? Mu Yang’s thoughts churned with frustration. As a successful businesswoman, she had seen all types of men fall at her feet, but Lin Zifeng was different. For all her initiative, couldn’t she compare to the care his wife provided?

With these thoughts, Mu Yang was even more resolved to meet Lin Zifeng’s elusive wife someday, to see who was so special to deserve his loyalty.

Mu Yang didn’t know yet, but once she found out his wife was Nangong Bing, she wouldn’t know how to react.

”Lin Zifeng!”

At that moment, a tender and sweet voice called out from Zhang Xixi’s office, the sound alone was enough to soothe anyone who heard it.

Lin Zifeng’s eyes darted about; he quickly raised his hand and loudly responded toward the Finance Department’s office: ”Coming!”

”Um, Manager Mu, I’m going to get my paycheck now. Let’s find a better place to have dinner another day, I’ll treat you then, alright?” Lin Zifeng said with a laugh, but Mu Yang wasn’t in the mood anymore. She gave him a fierce look, turned on her heel, and headed back to her IT department, her heels clicking rhythmically on the Finance Department’s glossy floor.

Mu Yang seemed somewhat excited when she arrived, but left in a clearly different mood, leaving the passing employees, especially Lin Zifeng, utterly baffled.

What’s with these people? Can’t even handle a simple ’no’? Must everything be done your way?

What, what kind of joke is this? I’m a real man, flesh and blood. I can’t let a woman make all the decisions.
